If you had a time machine, which dynasty would you go back to?
If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to the Tang Dynasty. I have always been fascinated by Chang’an, so I wish I could travel to the ancient capital and see what life was like back then.
✎ Lead-in ✎
Which historical figure would you like to meet? Why?

Does the moon have special meaning to you?” “Mr Du Fu,why do your poems show great concem for the country and common people?”

2. How might explorers have changed the course of history?
Our modern world is the result of the discoveries made by explorers. If some of these discoveries were not made, our lives would be vastly different, from the food we eat to the ideas we have, even to the languages we speak. For instance, chocolate is much loved across the world, yet, if explorers had not discovered the cacao beans in South America,we might never have brewed them into what iscertainly most people’s

without exploration, certain concepts found in maths, science and medicine might never have been shared and further developed to provide us with the knowledge we have today. Finally, the voyages made by explorers helped establish regular contact between different parts of the world. In doing so,languages have evolved and
cultures have spread, creating a more colourful world.

✎ Possible version ✎
Distinguished guests:
I am Li Hua. On behalf of my school, I’d like to express our warm welcome. It’s a great privilege for me to accompany you on the visit to Taicang Harbour.
The harbour witnessed the first voyage of Zheng He, one of China’s greatest explorers. A large fleet led by him navigated the blue seas, creating a splendid scene. Altogether, Zheng He made seven voyages to many countries and regions with his ships loaded with china, silk and tea as gifts. These voyages had a far-reaching impact on China and its neighbors, helping develop and strengthen mutual harmonious relations.
May you have an unforgettable experience.
✎ Possible version✎
Columbus, an Italian explorer, was born in Italy, in 1451. As a child, he liked reading the book The Travels of Marco Polo, from which he learnt something about Eastern countries. So he wanted to travel there very much. In 1492, Columbus left Spain with about 87 sailors and started his voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. After more than two months at sea, he and his sailors finally reached the “New World”-America.
I admire Columbus very much. I think he must have had a lot of difficulties when he travelled, but he still carried on and finally discovered America. I will take him as an example and face the difficulties with courage.
Thank You!
