For travelers seeking extraordinary experiences, these four destinations offer golden opportunities to see rare (珍稀的) wildlife, explore untouched environments, and enjoy breathtaking landscapes. Each location combines natural beauty with protection efforts, making them ideal for responsible tourism.
NORTHLAND, NEW ZEALAND
International travelers landing in Auckland usually head south, but the less-visited Northland region offers excellent diving in the Poor Knights ocean reserve, home to animals like spotted black groper and Lord Howe coral fish, which are found nowhere else in the world. On land, normally hard-to-see kiwis are doing well thanks to community-led protection projects creating safe areas for these beloved birds.
OCALA NATIONAL FOREST, FLORIDA
While most visitors crowd to Central Florida’s theme parks, Ocala National Forest remains a green getaway as the southernmost national forest in the mainland United States. Home to manatees, black bears, and rare plants across 600 lakes and natural springs, the forest features improved paths and fishing spots while actively bringing back its unique plant cover by removing harmful species.
RAJA AMPAT, INDONESIA
This faraway group of islands is an ocean wonderland with 500 sea rock types and over a thousand colorful fish species, where large sea rays and sea cows swim alongside recovering zebra shark populations. Accessible only by ship, Raja Ampat will see new pleasure boat trips in 2025, plus traditional phinisi ship rentals and National Geographic’ s 20-day “Exploring Indonesia by Sea” cruise (巡航).
MURRAY RIVER AUSTRALIA
As the world’s third longest river for boats, the Murray river flows 1,500 miles through Australia’s heartland. The new PS Australian Star starts in June 2025, offering multi-night cruises from Echuca featuring riverside barbecues, wine tasting, wildlife spotting, and visits to historic sites like Perricoota Station.

“At what English level can my child start reading English magazines?” This is a common question from parents. Typically, once a child reaches KET Grade A (Excellent) or above, it’s a good time to introduce magazine reading — this is a key step to boost their English skills. However, English magazines fall into two categories: domestically (国内地) published versions and international original versions, each with distinct features. Choosing the right one ensures efficient learning.
International original magazines shine in language quality: their expressions are authentic (真实的) and vivid, with flexible vocabulary use, making them perfect for experiencing real-world English. Yet they have disadvantages: cultural differences may lead to misinterpretation, and since content is ungraded, unexpected difficult words often pop up, making comprehension more difficult.
Domestically published magazines, by contrast, are more learner-friendly: they have clear difficulty levels, with Chinese explanations for tough words to lower reading difficulty. Critically, Chinese middle and high school reading comprehension questions are often adapted from international magazine texts — and domestic versions act as “tailored (定做的) practice materials” for these exams. Their downside is that the language can feel overly “textbook-like,” lacking the liveliness of original versions.
Choose based on your goals: if you want to practice authentic English and build vivid vocabulary (and can handle minor comprehension challenges), international originals are ideal. If you aim to improve exam scores or enhance reading skills steadily, domestically published magazines are more suitable.
What’s your child’s current English level? You could match it to the right magazine type using their recent English test results — would you like to help decide on a suitable option?
24. When can children begin reading English magazines?
A. Having mastered the vocabulary in KET textbooks.
B. Achieving a high-level performance in the KET exam.
C. Being able to understand the international original content.
D. Having prior experience with domestic English magazines.
25. Which is a disadvantage of international original English magazines?
A. Cultural gaps may cause misunderstandings.
B. They provide unneeded Chinese explanations.
C. Their vocabulary is too simple for advanced learners.
D. Their content is closely linked to textbook knowledge.
26. What is the main purpose of paragraph 4?
A. To advise parents on selecting English magazines for their children.
B. To compare the difficulty levels of two types of English magazines.
C. To prove KET Grade A is the best starting point for magazine reading.
D. To analyze the advantages of international original English magazines.
27. Which would be a suitable title for the passage?
A. KET Grade A: The Key to English Magazine Reading
B The Advantages and Disadvantages of English Magazines
C. How to Improve English Skills Through Magazine Reading
D. International vs Domestic English Magazines: Which Is Right
B 25. A 26. A 27. D

C
With a thirst for a new challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier. Since starting to learn, I have made good progress. The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is a test of Chinese language for non-native speakers. In July 2020, I passed my HSK3 exam with a score of 100. I am now almost ready to start HSK5.
Learning to speak Chinese isn’t as insurmountable as I once thought. When I speak to native speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the language relaxing and worthwhile, particularly writing the characters. The thing I find most challenging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed. I can’t always understand what has been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this greatly.
Despite my progress, it has still been the challenge I desire and has taken a lot of hard work. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient and persistent The satisfaction that comes from simple things like ordering food in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it.
My biggest harvest from learning Chinese is that it’s not only doable but can also be enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helps me in day-to-day life, but deepens my cultural understanding of such a colourful and beautiful country. Considering where I am now, compared to two years ago, as long as I keep studying hard, I can image a time when I’ll be able to read famous Chinese novels not in English but in the original text. So, to all my non-Chinese friends, I always say “Don’t give up. Embrace (拥抱) the challenge.”
28. What is the writer’s only regret about his language journey?
A. He didn’t pass the HSK3 exam earlier. B. He didn’t start learning Chinese earlier.
C. He can’t write over 400 Chinese characters yet. D. He hasn’t been ready for the HSK5 exam.
29. What does the underlined word “insurmountable” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Interesting. B. Unbeatable. C. Boring. D. Easy.
30. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The writer will give up learning Chinese soon.
B. The writer can already read Chinese novels in the original text.
C. Learning Chinese has helped the writer know more about Chinese culture.
D. The writer thinks listening is the easiest part of learning Chinese.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The HSK exam is important for non-native Chinese learners.
B. The writer shares his experience and feelings of learning Chinese.
C. Listening is the most difficult part of learning Chinese.
D. Chinese culture is colourful and beautiful.
B 29. B 30. C 31. B
根据第一段中“With a thirst for a new challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier.(怀着对新挑战的渴望,我决定开启我的语言之旅,我唯一的遗憾是没有早点开始)”可知,作者唯一的遗憾是没有更早开始学习中文。
根据第二段中“When I speak to native speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters.(当我用中文和母语者交流时,他们几乎都能听懂我。我也发现记汉字并不太难,现在我甚至能写400多个汉字)”可知,学习中文并没有作者曾经想象的那么难,故 “insurmountable”意为“难以克服的、不可战胜的”。B选项“Unbeatable(不可战胜的)”符合题意。
根据第四段中“Learning Chinese not only helps me in day-to-day life, but deepens my cultural understanding of such a colourful and beautiful country.(学习中文不仅在日常生活中帮助了我,还加深了我对这个多姿多彩、美丽国度的文化理解)”可推断,学习中文帮助作者更多地了解了中国文化。
B. “The writer shares his experience and feelings of learning Chinese.(作者分享了他学习中文的经历和感受)”最能概括文章主旨。故选B。
D
Tourism is a leisure activity, whose prework means just the opposite. Acting as a tourist is one of the clear characteristics of being “modern” and the popular concept of tourism is that, it is organized within particular place and occurs for a period of time, which is arranged beforehand. Tourist relationships arise from a movement of people to, and their stay in, various destinations. This necessarily involves some movement, that is the journey, and a period of stay in a new place or places. The journey and the stay are by definition outside the normal places, of residence and work, and are of a short-term and temporary nature, and there is a clear intention to return home within a relatively short period of time.
Modern societies engage in such tourist practices. New socialized forms of transportation and hotel facilities have developed in order to cope with the mass character of the gazes (凝视) of tourists, as opposed to the individual character of travel. Places are chosen to be visited and be gazed upon because there is an anticipation (期望) especially through daydreaming and fantasy of intense pleasures, either on a different scale or involving different senses from those who have been there. Such anticipation is also constructed and stays through a variety of non-tourist practices, such as films, TV, literature, magazines, records and videos which construct and reinforce (强化) this daydreaming.
Tourists tend to visit features of landscape and townscape which separate them off from everyday experience. Such aspects are viewed because they are thought to be in some sense out of the ordinary. The viewing of these tourist sights often involves different forms of social patterning with a much greater sensitivity to visual elements of landscape or townscape than is normally found in everyday life. People hang around these sights in a way that they would not normally do in their home environment and the vision is objectified (物化) or captured through photographs, postcards films and so on which enable the memory to be endlessly reproduced and recaptured.
One of the earliest research papers on the subject of tourism is Boorstin’s analysis of the “pseudo-event” (1964) where he argues that contemporary Americans cannot experience “reality” directly but are happy with “pseudo-event”. Isolated from the host environment and the local people, the mass tourist travels in guided groups and finds pleasure in fake or man-made attractions, and is cheated into enjoying the pseudo-events and ignoring the real world outside. Over time, the images generated of different tourist sights lead to a closed self-perpetuating (自我延续的) system of a false belief that provides the tourist with the basis for selecting or deciding potential places to visit. Such visits are made, says Boorstin, within the“environmental bubble”of the familiar American style hotel which keeps the tourist from the strangely of the host environment.
32. What does the author want to tell us in the 1st paragraph?
A. Making a careful travel plan is necessary.
B. Planning travel involves time and thought.
C. Getting travel tips from your friends may save time.
D. Choosing unusual tourist attractions makes a trip memorable.
33. What does the underlined part in the 3rd paragraph probably mean?
A. New environmental scenes in a different place will become more attractive.
B. Traveling to an unfamiliar place is a pleasant change from everyday routine.
C. Travelling is to see landmarks and discover unknown ways of life and values.
D. Tourists should find the native people and share with them ideas and experience.
34. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Visiting popular tourist attractions is only a waste of time.
B. When travelling, many tourists will miss their homes and friends.
C. American tourists like to visit familiar places when they travel outside.
D. The advantage of travel is to interact with a culture different from your own.
35. Which of the following can serve as the best title of the passage?
A. Tourism, a Direct Hug of Nature
B. Tourism, an Outlook on Different Life
C. Tourism, a False Belief about the World
D. Tourism, a New Relation to Familiar Sights

根据第三段中的“Tourists tend to visit features of landscape and townscape which separate them off from everyday experience. Such aspects are viewed because they are thought to be in some sense out of the ordinary. (游客倾向于参观那些使他们与日常体验不同的自然景观和城市风貌。这些方面被观看是因为它们在某种程度上被认为是不寻常的。)”可知,游客参观的是一些与日常体验不同的景观和城市景观,因此划线部分“ The viewing of these tourist sights often involves different forms of social patterning(观赏这些旅游景点往往涉及不同形式的社会模式)”应是指旅行是为了参观标志性景观,发现与日常不同的生活方式和价值。故选C项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“One of the earliest research papers on the subject of tourism is Boorstin’s analysis of the “pseudo-event” (1964) where he argues that contemporary Americans cannot experience “reality” directly but are happy with “pseudo-event”. Isolated from the host environment and the local people, the mass tourist travels in guided groups and finds pleasure in fake or man-made attractions, and is cheated into enjoying the pseudo-events and ignoring the real world outside.
During my final year at drama school, I trained for the Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award, the winners of which would receive a 5-month agreement with the BBC Radio Drama Company. In an early task, I delivered a monologue (独白). The teacher asked me why I didn’t move, and I was confused. He advised me to try again with gestures. The difference was striking. ____36____ This lesson has stayed with me, and I’ve since appeared in over 150 BBC audio dramas.
Congruency (一致) between our words, voices and body language is vital in making our message clear. ____37____ As Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, “Suit the action to the word, the word to the action.” There can be an assumption that gestures are there to support the spoken word and nothing more.
In May 2020, Wim Pouw of the University of Connecticut published a study in which he recorded the effects of different arm gestures on the voice. He found that the muscular tension from gesturing travelled through the body, affecting the pressure in the lungs and therefore the voice. ____38____ According to Pouw, “When you hear a voice, you actually hear aspects of a person’s entire body.”
Our bodies and voices are part of the same package. ____39____ Instead, when our audience is unable to see us, their focus on how we speak becomes even sharper, so gesturing becomes all the more important.
We make an analogy (类比). The body fuels the voice, much like an engine powers a car. Gestures act like the gas pedal. ____40____ Without gestures, your message may lack energy and impact.
A. The more you use them, the stronger your voice becomes.
B. Holding the audience’s attention can be much more challenging.
C. The fact that we’re not visible doesn’t mean gesturing isn’t necessary.
D. The speech with the gestures was much more interesting.
E. Gesturing, when it’s used effectively, is a key part of that.
F. In these situations, it’s important to remember that people can hear your gestures.
G. Listeners could detect these voice changes and identify the gestures being made.
D 37. E 38. G 39. C 40. A
上文“In an early task, I delivered a monologue (独白). The teacher asked me why I didn’t move, and I was confused. He advised me to try again with gestures. The difference was striking.(在一次初期训练中,我表演了一段独白。老师问我为什么没有加入肢体动作,我当时很困惑。他建议我配合肢体动作再试一次,(两次表演的)效果差别非常显著。)”表明加上肢体动作的表演效果显著不同,D选项“The speech with the gestures was much more interesting.(带有肢体动作的台词要有趣得多)”承接上文,解释了上文提到的“difference”,即加上肢体动作的台词更有趣,上下文语意连贯。故选D项。
【37题详解】
上文“Congruency (一致) between our words, voices and body language is vital in making our message clear.(言语、声调与肢体语言的一致性对信息传达至关重要)”强调了语言、声音和肢体语言一致性的重要性,E选项“Gesturing, when it’s used effectively, is a key part of that.(当肢体动作被有效地使用时,它是其中的关键部分)”承接上文,强调肢体动作是达成这种一致性的关键部分,上下文语意连贯。故选E项。
上文“He found that the muscular tension from gesturing travelled through the body, affecting the pressure in the lungs and therefore the voice.(他发现,肢体动作产生的肌肉张力会传遍全身,影响肺部的压力,从而影响声音)”说明肢体动作会影响声音,G选项“Listeners could detect these voice changes and identify the gestures being made.(听众可以察觉到这些声音的变化,并识别出正在做出的肢体动作)”承接上文,指出听众能够察觉到声音的变化并识别出肢体动作,再次说明肢体动作与声音之间的关系,上下文语意连贯。故选G项。
下文“Instead, when our audience is unable to see us, their focus on how we speak becomes even sharper, so gesturing becomes all the more important.(相反,当我们的听众无法看到我们时,他们对我们说话方式的关注会更加敏锐,因此肢体动作变得更加重要)”中的“instead”表示转折,说明前后是对比关系,C选项“The fact that we’re not visible doesn’t mean gesturing isn’t necessary.(即使不被看见,肢体动作依然不可或缺)”与下文构成转折关系,说明即使听众看不见我们,肢体动作也是必要的,且能引出下文对肢体动作重要性的进一步阐述,上下文语意连贯。故选C项。
上文“We make an analogy (类比). The body fuels the voice, much like an engine powers a car. Gestures act like the gas pedal.(我们打个比方。身体为声音提供动力,就像发动机为汽车提供动力一样。肢体动作就像油门)”通过类比说明肢体动作对声音的作用,A选项“The more you use them, the stronger your voice becomes.(你越使用它们,你的声音就越有力)”承接上文,进一步说明肢体动作使用越多,声音越有力,同时与下文“Without gestures, your message may lack energy and impact.(没有肢体动作,你的信息可能会缺乏活力和影响力)”构成对比关系。故选A项。

When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs in my house. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement filled the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” she grinned. “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Dear, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called saying that she had an acute stomachache and was not in any shape to perform.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
I was completely knocked out by the news.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Finally came the big moment.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was completely knocked out by the news. My heart sank, and I didn’t know what to do. “How can I perform alone?” I asked myself, tears welling up. But my mom said gently, “You’ve practiced so hard; don’t let fear stop you.” That night, I stayed up thinking about whether I should go on stage by myself. Finally, I decided that I would try, because it was for the food bank.
Finally came the big moment. As I walked onto the stage, my hands were shaking, and I could hardly breathe. I closed my eyes and remembered the days when Emma and I sang together, which gave me courage. When I opened my mouth, my voice came out clear and steady. The audience clapped warmly, and I felt proud of myself for the first time. What mattered most was not perfection, but that I dared to try.

MURRAY RIVER, AUSTRALIA

A To advise parents on selecting English magazines for their children.
B. The Advantages and Disadvantages of English Magazines
C. How to Improve English Skills Through Magazine Reading
D. International vs Domestic English Magazines: Which Is Right

B Planning travel involves time and thought.
34 What can we infer from the last paragraph?
B. Tourism, an Outlook on Different Life
C. Tourism, a False Belief about the World
D. Tourism a New Relation to Familiar Sights
