There I was, after 12 hours of travel, standing on Lexington Avenue and hoping for a New York miracle. I'd only been in Manhattan for an hour, and already was flagging down a taxi Late at night and shouting “Follow that cab!”
Well, more accurately: “Follow that little dot on this tiny map.” Meaning the GPS-enabled dot moving around a screen as part of the Find My iPhone feature. The dot indicating that somewhere out there, in one of New York City's other 13,000 taxi cabs, sat my daughter's blue bog that she'd left behind, containing her diary school laptop, notebooks, iPhone and Air Pods she'd bought with her saved-up allowance.
The daughter who a that very moment was curled up an the hotel bed regretting her thoughtlessness, in tears. I was a small-town dad in a huge, unfamiliar metropolis (大都市), with maybe half an idea of what I was doing, at best. But I couldn't stand to see her crying. I had-to get that bag back.
An explanation is in order at the airport terminal, we’d had to switch to another taxicab to get a ride into Manhattan. Our first taxi diver quoted us a fare higher than it should cost, and when I asked why, he immediately threw us out of his cab. We piled into the next waiting taxi. It wasn't until getting to our hotel, an hour later, that we realized the first taxi driver had sped away with the bag inside.
While I called 311(非紧急情况电话), my wife remembered she'd set up tracking on our daughter's phone in case of emergencies, and pulled up its map, excited to discover a little dot that refreshed every 15 seconds or so, traveling around the streets of midtown. Talking to the woman working 311, I casually remarked, “I'm half-tempted to get another cab and have them chase after this dot on the map.”
“Well,” she sad “that's probably what a New Yorker would do.”Challenge accepted. The first taxi driver than pulled over laughed at my wild goose chase, but the second said, “Yeah. Get in.” His name was Gani. And so began ou three-hour hunt for the missing bag.

“Anxiety.” The very word invites discomfort. Its effects--shortness of breath, pounding heart, muscle tension--are outright upsetting. But, as a clinician, I find that we tend to miss out on many valuable opportunities presented by this human emotion. In and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a disease. Quite the contrary:it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that t is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.
We all know working out at the gym is hard. By nature, a “good workout” is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do. The sweet spot of exercise is always a some what challenging experience. Similarly, if you want to be emotion all stronger, you need to face some tension. For example, one effective treatment for fear is exposure therapy(疗法), which involves gradually encountering things that make one anxious, reducing fear over time.
Humans are social creature. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments(e.g., “I'm having a hard time right now and could really use your support”, it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.
From time to time, we find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up, our resources breakdown, and we feel uncomfortably anxious--what we're experiencing is called stress. Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales(天平)going out of balance. Focusing on work and pretending everything is OK only leads to disastrous results. Medical treatment for stress may function for a while, but it tends to make things worse in the long run. The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.
28.What does the author soy about anxiety?
A.It is an invitation to diseases. B.It indicates stable mental health.
C.It costs us many valuable chances. D.It is a natural emotional expression.
29.Why does the author mention “good workout” in paragraph 2?
A.To prove how exercise influences emotions. B.To suggest an effective way to.challenge limits.
C.To explain how anxiety builds emotional strength. D.To show a positive connection between mind and body.
30.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The key to closeness is partners' support. B.Sharing anxieties improves relationships.
C.Humans are defined by their social nature. D.Expressing feelings keeps us off anxieties.
31.According to the last paragraph, how can we deal with stress?
A.Devote more energy to ou B.Increase resources available to us.
C Seek professional medical treatment. D.Master advanced mathematical skills.

Israeli company Watergen has produced a device that generates clean, drinkable water out of air. The device called GENNY is small enough to be used in a home or office but can generate up to 30 liters of water a day. The water that GENNY produces is not only clean enough to drink, it's also often cleaner than tap water.
GENNY takes air in and passes it through a filter(过滤器)to remove dust and dirt. The filter is powerful enough to work even in areas with high air pollution. The air then passes through a chamber where heating and cooling cause water vapor in the air to condense(凝结). This water is then passed through several more filters and minerals are added to make it taste better. Finally, the water is stored in a tank where it is continually circulated to keep it fresh. A larger model, called the GEN-350, can produce up to 900 liters of water per day. The GEN-350 is now being used in hospitals that previously did not have a reliable source of fresh, clean water. Watergen has also developed an emergency response vehicle(ERV)that can carry a GEN-350 unit wherever it is needed. In addition to the GEN-350, the ERV carries a portable generator that supplies electricity for the GEN-350.
Watergen's ERV is designed to bring water to people suffering from the effects of a serious earthquake, fire, flood or other situations. Once such an incident occurred in California in 2018. A fire started at a camp site and spread quickly over a wide area destroying many thousands of acres of trees and many homes. One of Watergen's ERVs was driven there and it provided water for its citizens and rescue workers. Besides, they also provided clean safe water for the residents of Texas and Florida in the aftermath of the destruction caused by hurricane Harvey and Irma.
32.What can we know about Watergen's devices?
A.They're available in different sizes. B.They're made in numerous countries.
C.They're extremely hard to operate D.They're powerless in polluted areas.
33.The GENNY adds minerals to_________.
A.keep the water fresh and clean B.remove dust from the water
C.improve the flavor of the water D.meet the water safety criteria
34.What can Watergen do using its EBV?
A.help rebuild the destroyed homes. B.Outperform its competitors.
C.Supply electricity to local people. D.Respond to natural disasters.
35.What would be the best title of the text?
A.GENNY:Water Generate via Filters B.GENNY:Water Production from Air
C.GEN-350:Water Source for Hospital D.GEN-350:Water Supplier to the Needy

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sara. She had a passion for soccer that burned brighter than any other flame in her heart. However, Sara faced a big challenge-her legs were no as strong as her friends, requiring her to rely on crutches(拐杖)for support.
Sara's friends gathered on the soccer field every day, their laughter and shouts of excitement filing the air. She watched them with envy, longing to join their games. But whenever she tied to play, the reality of her limitations would hit her hard, and she would feel a wave of disappointment. Despite this, Sara refused to let her dreams die. She loved soccer with all her heart, and she was determined not to give up.
One day, the school announced an important soccer match. Sara's heart skipped a beat when she heard the news. She wanted to participate more than anything, but she knew that many kids would doubt her abilities because of her legs. Instead of giving up to their doubts, Sara chose to accept them as a source of strength.
She began practicing hard every day after school. Using her crutches, she kicked the ball with all her strength, gradually mastering the art of balancing herself. Sometimes, she would fall down, but each time, she would pick herself up with determination. Her face would be sweaty and dirty, but her eyes would shine with determination.
Finally, the day arrived. Sara's team had made it to the final match, and she had been given a chance to play. The crowd roared with excitement as she took her position on the field. Everyone cheered her on, their voices a mix of encouragement and admiration. Although Sara couldn't run like the others, she used her skills and wisdom to pas the ball, her crutches becoming her secret weapon(武器)on the field.

Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage into Campus
Last week, our school held a special event, “Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage into Campus,” to promote traditional culture. The activities took place from Monday to Friday, featuring diverse workshops and performances.
Students experienced paper-cutting, learned Peking Opera basics, and even tried their hand at making clay figurines. Experts demonstrated these crafts, making the sessions interactive and fun. A highlight was the traditional music performance, which left everyone amazed.
This event deepened our understanding of China's rich heritage and sparked interest in preserving these treasures. It was a memorable journey into the heart of our cultural roots.
Paragraph 1:
In the last moments, the ball came to Sara. With the crowd holding their breath, she swiftly balanced on her crutches and kicked the ball with precision. Her teammates sprinted forward, but Sara's pass was flawless--it sailed over the defenders and landed at the feet of her star player. A goal! The stadium erupted in cheers as Sara's team clinched victory. Though exhausted, Sara's smile radiated pure joy. Her crutches, once symbols of limitation, had become tools of triumph. That day, she proved that passion and perseverance could turn dreams into reality, inspiring everyone who witnessed her courage.
