I was pleased at running away from Long John Silver though I knew he was still somewhere nearby on the island.
As I was trying to find a safer place to hide myself, I heard some men talking close by. It was Silver and Tom.
“I want you with me!” Silver shouted, “when we have the treasure, there’s gold for you too.” “No,” cried Tom, “I told you. I’m not a murderer. You’re guilty, all of you!” Sadly, these were the last words of Tom. It was a gunshot, Silver’s gun.
I moved away quickly and quietly. I ran fast, not thinking about the direction I was taking. ______. What it was, whether a bear or a man or a monkey? Silver himself appeared less terrible to me now.
As it was getting closer to me. It was a man. “Who are you?” I asked.
“Ben Gunn,” he answered. “I’m poor Ben Gunn, and I haven’t spoken with a man these three years. Who are you, mate?” “Jim,” I told him.
“Now, Jim, tell me, is that Flint’s ship?” he asked in fear, pointing to the ship which I ran away from.
“No, and Flint is dead. But there are some of Flint’s hands aboard.”
“Not a man…with one…leg?” Ben asked in a tremulous voice, with his pale face and scared eyes.
“You mean Silver? He once worked as a cook on the ship.” I added. “Now, he is also on the island to find Flint’s treasure. He wants to kill us and take over the ship!”
“Aye, that was his name, Long John Silver. The devil (魔鬼) couldn’t hold a lit candle to him,” he said, “I was on Flint’s ship when he buried (埋) the treasure, he and six strong seamen. But, when he returned, he himself alone, and the six all died. How he made it, not a man except him could make out. It was a battle, a murder, and a sudden death—him against six.”
For just then, although the sun had still an hour or two to run, the whole island awoke to the thunder of a cannon (大炮).
“They have begun to fight!” I cried. “Follow me.”

Have you ever been in a music festival, sports event or a parade(游行), and felt just a little too crowded?
On October 29th last year, more than 150 people were killed at a festival in Seoul because of the crowd crush(人群挤压). How can you stay safe then? 51 .
Stay calm and save your energy. Feeling afraid can’t save your life. Don’t shout. 52 . If a crowd crash happens, you’ll need all your physical energy to keep yourself safe.
Keep your arms up. This will create some space and allow you to push people away if you need to.
53 . Staying at the edge(边缘) of a crowd allows you to get away more quickly. However, if you find yourself in the middle of a dangerous crowd, try to move diligently(斜的). You can also look for a building that you can climb onto away from others.
Go with the crowd, not against it. If the crowd is moving in one direction, it’s best to go with the crowd. 54 . If you happen to fall down in a large crowd, try to get up as quickly as possible. If you can’t, try to lie on your left side to protect your heart and lungs. Cover your head with your arms and hands.
The most important thing is to know when to leave before the crowd crash happens. Once the number of the people reached six per square meter or more, it becomes very dangerous and you may not be able to get out easily. 55 .
Remember: Our safety is our responsibility. Be careful and stay safe.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games, also known as the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, took place in Paris, France, from July 26th to August 11th. These days, I was following this event very closely. I had witnessed (目睹) great achievements made by Chinese athletes. I feel so proud of China.
But, do you know the first man who represented (代表) China in the Olympics? He would be remembered with pride. His name was Liu Changchun, who was born in a poor family in 1909. Every morning, he ran to school which was more than five kilometers away from home. He was good at running, even in hard times of his life, he kept practicing running.
At that time, Northeast China had already been occupied (占领) by Japan, who tried to deceive Liu Changchun into representing the so-called new country—Manchukuo (伪满洲国) in the Olympics, but he firmly refused their unreasonable requirement.
In 1932, he overcame kinds of difficulties and made his way to the US with the help of Zhang Xueliang. On July 2nd, he left for Shanghai in secret. On July 29th, he arrived in Los Angeles. It took him almost a month to travel by sea from Shanghai. He didn’t have any chance to train during that time. What’s more, because of the seasickness, he was in poor health. On July 31st, he finished fifth in the 100-meter race. But he reminded the world that China stood as a country.
Our country has changed a lot over the past 93 years, the only thing that remains unchanged is the self-improvement of Chinese people.
