1. Kunming is so beautiful that ________ tourists come to the city during the summer holiday every year.
A. thousand of B. thousands of C. eight thousands
thousand of语法错误;thousands of成千上万的;eight thousands语法错误。
2. —Tom, do you think the rainforests will disappear from the earth one day?
—Unless humans ________ from cutting down trees from now on.
A. will stop B. will be stopped C. are stopped
一般现在时的被动语态结构为am/is/are+动词过去分词,主语humans是复数,故be动词用are。故选C。
3. —Was the old man’s house on fire last night?
—Yes. Luckily, the old man ________ in time and now he is fine.
A. is saved B. will save C. was saved

一般过去时的被动语态结构为“was/were+动词过去分词”,主语“the old man”是第三人称单数,故be动词用was。故选C。
4. My advice on how to save paper ________ by my class last Monday.
A. has accepted B. was accepted C. is accepted

【答案】A
考查现在完成时和used to do结构。根据“Bruce…in the past two years”可知,动作发生在过去,且对现在有影响,应用现在完成时。主语Bruce是第三人称单数,助动词用has,后接动词过去分词changed;根据“but now he is outgoing and active”可知,此处描述的是过去的习惯或状态,与现在形成对比,应用used to do sth. 故选A。

A. reading; to B. reading; on C. to read; on

What would you do if your best friend and you disagree with each other? Karina is my best friend. When we first met in a camp, we both felt that we’d be friends forever. So it was hard to imagine that I would disagree with her on some things. Whatever we did, we were always together. And the more we spent together, the more we found we were surprisingly like each other.
But then something happened in another summer camp. One day, Karina, Linda, Tyler and I talked happily under a tree. “Have you heard about the shopping-mall news?” asked Linda, “They want to cut down some trees to make the shopping center.”
“That’s terrible!” I said. “We have to stop that.”
“I don’t think so,” said Karina. “My parents said the shopping center would make new jobs for people who really need work.”
“But think of all the birds that would lose their homes!” I said. “I want people to have jobs, but it doesn’t mean cutting down trees.”
“Don’t you think people’s jobs are more important?” Karina asked.
“Maybe two people with opposite ideas just aren’t meant to be friends,” I was thinking. I felt so mad that I even turned my head away from her, not wanting to talk anymore.
Just then, Linda jumped up and broke the silence. “Let’s see who can do the roundhouse (回旋) kick!” Tyler did first, Karina followed, and I finally joined them. Soon, we all laughed and enjoyed ourselves.

After that day, even though I wished Karina could agree with me about saving the trees, I began to realize that even best friends disagree sometimes. What’s important is that we should respect (尊重) each other.

Do you have a smartphone? How many hours do you spend on your smartphone every day? It’s very useful—we can use it to take photos, play games or study. But it can also cause (造成) problems. A large number of people spend over 4 hours a day using their phones—that’s 1,460 hours a year, from a study by Thames. So, if we use smartphones too much, they can become harmful (有害的).

To figure out (弄清楚) if using smartphones too much causes poor sleep, scientists asked 1,043 British students aged between 18 and 30 to finish two questionnaires (问卷). And they learned that using smartphones too much brings people poor sleep. Almost 70% of the students who use smartphones too much have poor sleep.
