应用文:
Possible version:
Last week, I did a survey on English Learning Challenges in our class. Among the 48 students, over half of them find listening and speaking most challenging, while nearly one-third struggle primarily with writing. A smaller group considers reading comprehension their major problem.
Different strategies can be adopted to break down barriers in listening and speaking. To begin with, you can listen to authentic materials like podcasts, as consistent exposure trains your ear. In the meantime, it is suggested to read aloud or shadow the speaker to practise pronunciation and intonation. Another helpful way is to talk with classmates in English so you can build confidence step by step.
Every difficulty is a step toward growth. With patience and consistent practice, I believe we can all make steady progress in English learning.
Para 2 version 2:
Different strategies can be adopted to deal with writing difficulties. First, you can keep a simple weekly journal in English to practise expressing your ideas clearly. It also helps to read good sample passages, since they provide you with examples of how to organize ideas and offer expressions that you can use in your own writing. In addition, you are encouraged to ask teachers or classmates for feedback so that you can correct mistakes and make progress more quickly.
Para 2 version 3:
Different strategies can be adopted to improve reading comprehension. You can start by reviewing key vocabulary regularly, as knowing more words makes it easier to understand the text. When reading, try to underline important words or phrases so you can follow the writer’s main ideas more clearly. It also helps to begin with simpler passages and gradually move to more challenging ones. With steady practice, reading will become smoother and more enjoyable.

talked and understood the world that year.In 2025,these chosen words are quite special. They cover topics like AI
and popular but meaningless online content. Here are some 2025 Words of the Year from different dictionaries
Oxford word of the year:Rage bait
If you've spent the year being fooled into feeling angry by a headline, video,or image that is designed on
purpose to ruin your mood,congratulations-you've been rage baited.Oxford's pick reflects the rise of content
designed to annoy or divide people. In other words:the Internet's favourite thing.
Macquarie Dictionary word of the year:AI slop
Slightly more abstract, but still perfect-fitting,Australia's Macquarie Dictionary chose a term that only could
have been created in 2025.AI slop"describes generative-AI output that feels lazy, empty,or just wrong. If you
clicked on that video of cats dancing, you've been a victim of AI slop.
Cambridge Dictionary word of the year:Parasocial
Cambridge went with a word that's been slowly building up for years:"parasocial."Originally an academic
term,it now broadly describes the one-sided relationships we form with creators, celebrities, and influencers. It's the
perfect description for an era where you know your favourite YouTuber's morning routine,or the personal details of
a TikToker's breakup,but they don't know you exist.
Dictionary.com word of the year:67
Honestly,we still don't know what this means, but Dictionary.com did something different this year with"67,
a number that took on new meaning in 2025.While its specific meaning is context-dependent-originally coming
from TikTok-this choice shows that language has developed far beyond just letters.

The idea that night owls()who don't go to bed until the early hours struggle to get anything done during
the day may have to be revised.According to a new study, staying up late could be good for our brain power as
research suggests that night owls could be sharper than those who go to bed early.
Researchers from Imperial College London studied data from the UK Biobank study on more than 26,000 people
who had completed intelligence, reasoning, reaction time and memory tests. They then examined how participants'
sleep patterns一sleep duration(时长),quality, and natural sleep time一affected brain performance. They found
that people who stay up late and those called"intermediate"had better thinking skills, while early risers got the
lowest scores.Besides, going to bed late is strongly related with creative types.Artists, authors and musicians known
to be night owls include James Joyce and Lady Gaga.
The study also found that sleep duration is important for brain function, with those getting between seven and
nine hours of shut-eye each night performing best in cognitive (tests.Prof Daging Ma,the co-leader of the
study, added,"We found that sleep duration has a direct effect on brain function, and we believe that actively
managing sleep patterns is really important for improving the way our brains work.So we'd like to see policy
interventions (to help improve sleep patterns. For example, workplaces could consider more suitable start times
to better fit workers'body clocks."
Some experts, however, suggested being careful in understanding the findings.Jessica Chelekis,a sleep expert
at Brunel University London, said there were"important limitations"to the study as the research did not take
education level into consideration,or include the time of day the cognitive tests were conducted in the results. The
main value of the study was challenging stereotypes(刻板印象)around sleep, she added.
32.What can be learned about the new research?
A.It promotes a new trend of sleep patterns.
B.It shows most night owls have sharp brains.
C.It fits people's usual views on night owls.
D.It challenges the common belief about night owls.
33.Why are James Joyce and Lady Gaga mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To provide examples of early risers.
B.To suggest most successful artists are night owls.
C.To prove artists have better cognitive function.
D.To show the connection between late hours and creativity
34.Which statement will Prof Daqing Ma probably agree with?
A.All sleep lengths equally improve brain function.
B.Parents shouldn't intervene children's sleep pattern.
C.Schools should start later to match teens'sleep patterns.
D.Sleep duration is more important than sleep quality.
35.What is the author's attitude towards the new study?
A.Objective.
B.Positive.
C.Negative.
D.Doubtful.
