"Thank you for your email.I'll leave the school to follow my dream of knitting()
sweaters for penguins in Antarctica(南极洲)and don't work for
the school.I will be back to school after my penguin friends are
happy."Weeks ago,a teacher in the UK sent this email to her
Chinese student, and it soon became popular online.
A penguin is wearing a sweater.
You may find this email surprising, but knitting sweaters for penguins is a real act of
kindness. The Penguin Foundation()and Phillip Island Nature Parks in Australia
came up with the idea.
The activity began because of a serious oil spill(石油泄漏)near Phillip Island in the
1990s.During that time, the number and health of baby penguins had a serious drop.
When little penguins were covered in oil, their lives were put in danger.
To solve this problem, the foundation asked people from all over the world to knit
sweaters for penguins. These sweaters could keep them warm during the cleaning and stop
them from eating the oil.
Luckily, the idea worked. In 2001,there was another oil spill near Phillip Island.
This time, the sweaters helped save 96%of the penguins in the area.
However, some bird protection groups queried,"Might these sweaters put more
weight on penguins?"To answer this, the foundation said that the sweaters are only used
for a short time.If the penguins are better, they no longer wear them.

I used to be really shy. When I first came to this new school,I became even shyer.
But once I talked to my classmate in a math class. And then,I was punished()to
write a five-page passage about "Why I Shouldn't Talk in Class".It seemed like it would
take me all night!
After getting home,I spent some time feeding and playing with my cat first,so that I
could avoid the hard task. When I finally started writing,I began with the reasons my
teacher Ms.Black would like.I wrote that talking in class stopped me and my classmates
from learning. After finishing one paragraph,I found it difficult to continue.I thought for
a long time and then got an idea. What if talking led to a bad life like becoming a criminal
(罪犯)?If I didn't get an education and dropped out(辍学),I might steal things and go to
prison(监狱).And when I got out,.people would say,“She used to talk in class.”The
pages began flying by.
When my mom came home from work,I was still complaining,"Five pages? It's
impossible!"Mom said,"You should keep writing.I want to read it when you finish.
After dinner,I gave the passage to my mom.I thought she would scold()me or at
least tell me to learn a lesson. But she laughed and laughed while reading.
The next day, when Ms.Black read my passage to the class, everyone laughed.I knew
they weren't laughing at me.They were laughing because I had the ability to tell a funny story.
My confidence()still needed to grow, but I knew I wouldn't be shy while writing.
