Ten years ago,we got a dog, which we named Angel. As she grew up and
went through training,we realized that she, too, would be a good therapy dog
(治疗犬).
Angel is ten now and works every week. She visits two hospitals a day, cares for the
elderly and joins our library's PAWS for Reading program. At the library, six to ten dogs
lie on the floor and the kids pick a book to read to a dog. After they finish, they get a card
with the dog's picture and history.Angel has also helped out a children's camp. She is so
popular that everywhere we go,people know her, especially the kids she has worked with.
We have seen some very special things through our pet therapy work.I brought Angel
to our local hospital to visit a woman who had to stay in bed all day.We spent time with
her every week. One day,my husband,Jack, got Angel up into the chair next to the
woman's bed.He asked her if she wanted to give Angel a treat. She nodded, and Jack
carefully placed the treat in her right hand.Angel gently took the treat. Then the woman
raised her right hand and started petting Angel. Her friend was in the room and said,"She
hasn't been able to move that hand since she had her stroke(中风)!"
After that, every time we saw the woman, she lifted her left hand. We'd tell her she
had to use her right hand, and she would.
It seems proper(that when Angel visits the hospital, she also plays tricks for
the patients with her hands. The best one is when she lies on the floor, bows(F)her
head, and crosses her hands. She stays very still(and doesn't move until Jack says
"Amen"and claps his hands. We taught her how to say bye-bye!
B )8.What do children do with therapy dogs?
A.Train them carefully.
B.Read books to them.
C.Take pictures of them.
D.Make cards for them.
(C)9.Who asked the woman if she wanted to give Angel a treat?
A.The writer.
B.The doctor.
C.The writer's husband.
D.The woman's husband.
D)10.With Angel's help,the woman can
A.move her head
B.use her mouth
C.use both her legs
D.use both her hands
(D)11.What is TRUE about Angel according to the passage?
A.Angel doesn't know how to say bye-bye until today.
B.Angel stops playing tricks when she hears "Amen".
C.Angel often plays her tricks for children at school.
D.Angel can play tricks for the patients with her hands.

It used to be that people would drink coffee or tea in the morning to pick them up and
get them going for the day. Then cola drinks hit the market. With lots of
caffeine and sugar, these drinks soon became the pick-me-up of choice for
many adults and teenagers. Now drink companies are putting out so-called
“energy drinks'”.These drinks have the specific(特定的)aim of giving tired
customers(顾客)more energy.
One example of a popular energy drink is Red Bull. The company that puts out this
drink has reported that Red Bull is not a thirst quencher(解渴饮料).Instead, the drink is
meant to revitalize(使恢复生机)a tired customer's body and mind,In order to do this, the
makers of Red Bull, and other energy drinks,typically()add vitamins and certain
(chemicals to their drinks. The added chemicals are like chemicals that the body
naturally produces for energy. The vitamins, chemicals, caffeine, and sugar found in these
drinks all seem to give a person energy.
Health experts are not so sure, though. For one thing, there is not enough evidence
(to show that all of the vitamins added to energy drinks actually raise a person's
energy level.Another problem is that there are so many things in the drinks.Nobody
knows for sure how all of the ingredients()in energy drinks work together.
Dr.Brent Bauer cautions(告诫)people about believing all the claims(申明)energy
drinks make.He says,"It may be true that if you put these twelve things together, you
will get a good result.However,Dr.Bauer adds the mix of ingredients could also have a
negative impact on the body."We just don't know at this point,"he says.
