Have you ever heard of volunteer travel?During the trip, volunteer travellers often
provide services like teaching, cooking, animal caring, and cultural activities. In exchange
for their help, they get meals, classes or something else for free or at a lower price.
You may think this kind of journey can only be possible in these years by modern
transport. But in fact, volunteer travel dates back to 1958.At that time,Alec Dickson and
his wife Mora from the UK started Voluntary Service Overseas(VSO)-an organization(
providing volunteer work all over the world.
In the past, volunteer travel usually took place in foreign countries. However, more
people have taken part in volunteer trips in their own countries in recent years.According
to()Sanlian Lifeweek magazine, volunteer trips to the countryside are attractive to
people living in the city. They hope to take a rest from the fast and busy city life by doing
some volunteer work in villages.
Volunteer travel helps city people get a taste of village life. Many people are bored with the
busy life in the city. They often say to themselves,"Do I need to move to the countryside
for a quiet life?"Volunteer travel may help them find out the answer. What's more, volunteer
travel helps local people improve their lives. When more tourists visit the villages, they can
get more jobs and make more money.
Volunteer travel can not only show kindness to people in need, but also help people
get different life experiences().Why not have a try next time?

DThere are always worries about false information on social media.Believing false
information could influence our personal and group health. But why do people believe false
information they see online? One popular argument is that they are short of digital literacy
(数字素养),so they're more likely to believe and share false information,
2To explore the possible connections between one's digital literacy and tendency(
to believe false information,we surveyed 1,341 Americans.First,we showed them 24
news headlines-half of which were true and half of which were false. Then we tested their
digital literacy. After that, they were asked to answer a question about different kinds of
newsfeeds(新闻推送).
3The survey found that digital literacy is indeed a good predictor()of one's
ability to tell true information from what is false. But when we looked at the connection
between digital literacy and the tendency to share false information with others, the results
were different..Just like people who were less digitally literate(有文化的),people who
were more digitally literate were likely to share false articles as well.
DAlso, the results showed that even people with high digital literacy were not
immune from sharing false news with others. This sounds strange. If you are better at
telling the difference between the true and the false, why would you share false
information? As we look quickly through our newsfeeds,we often pay attention to feedback
(反馈),such as how many“likes'”our posts have received. It turns out that we often
forget to ask ourselves whether a story is true or false before deciding to share it.
5So,let's all stop right now!Remember to ask ourselves whether the news we see is
true before even thinking about clicking "share".
D)8.What is the writer's purpose in writing the passage?
A.To explain the importance of digital literacy.
B.To introduce how to improve digital literacy.
C.To remind readers to protect personal information.
D.To explore why people share false information online.
