One recent Saturday, still in bed, Anna reached for her phone and typed a text to her mum. Mum was right in the kitchen. Anna wanted pancakes for breakfast.
Soon after, the 13-year-old heard her mum’s angry voice, “Anna, if you want to talk to me, you come and see me!” Anna laughed about it now. “I was kind of being lazy. I know that sounds terrible.”
Well maybe not terrible, but certainly more and more typical. According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, these days, many people like texting better than making phone calls. It’s not always young people, but the younger you are, the more likely you are to enjoy texting.
Some would argue that it’s no big deal. But many experts say the most successful communicators will have the ability to do both, talk and text, and know the best times to use those skills. And they fear that more of us are losing our ability to have the traditional face-to-face conversations that are very important in personal relationships.
Young people think it’s just something they enjoy doing. As Anna sees it, “There are people you’ll text, but won’t call. It’s not about anything important—just a way to stay in touch with each other.” She and her closest friends also send each other videos (录像) of themselves, their dogs or something new in their bedrooms.
Experts say there is, of course, nothing wrong with casual (随意的) conversations and fun between friends. The problem is that the conversation isn’t deep. They suggest that parents put down their own mobile devices (移动设备) first, as children learn from them. Some family rules are also needed, such as “No texting to people in the same house.” But the key is to develop different communication skills.
43.Why did Anna text to her mum?
A.Laziness stopped her from moving. B.She was feeling terribly ill.
C.It was their way of communication. D.She was angry with her mother.
44.What was the finding of the Pew Internet & American Life Project?
A.People spend more and more time on phones.
B.Younger people like texting better than older people.
C.Texting is a better way of communication than phone calls.
D.Successful communicators are good at both texting and talking.
45.What does the underlined word “they” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Phones. B.Texts. C.Experts. D.Abilities.
46.Why do the experts suggest that parents put down their mobile devices?
A.To set examples for children. B.To follow family rules.
C.To stay in touch with friends. D.To learn from children.

45.词句猜测题。根据“But many experts say the most successful communicators will have the ability to do both…And they fear that more of us are losing our ability to have the traditional face-to-face conversations”可知,许多专家表示,最成功的沟通者将同时具备说话和发短信的能力,他们担心我们中越来越多的人正在失去进行传统的面对面交谈的能力;可推测出“they”指的是“专家们”。故选C。
46.细节理解题。根据“They suggest that parents put down their own mobile devices (移动设备) first, as children learn from them.”可知,他们建议父母首先放下自己的移动设备,因为孩子们会向他们学习。即专家们建议父母放下移动设备,给孩子们树立好榜样。故选A。

New research has shown that the Moon is older than thought—it’s 40 million years older. Scientists now believe it formed (形成) around 4.46 billion years ago.
A long time ago, a big collision (碰撞) happened in space. A planet named Theia, about the size of Mars, hit the Earth. This caused magma (岩浆) to fly out into space. As the magma cooled, it became rocks that began flying around the Earth. Slowly, these rocks came together and formed the Moon.
How do we know this? In 1972, astronauts collected (收集) rocks from the Moon. The rocks had a special kind of mineral (矿物质). It formed after the Earth and Theia collided. Recently, scientists used a new tool to study the mineral more clearly. This helped them work out how old the Moon really is.
Why do we study the Moon? It’s not just a shiny rock in the sky! It plays a big part in our lives. It makes our seasons change and even changes the weather. Without the Moon, life on Earth might not be possible.
Before astronauts travelled to the Moon, there were stories about how the Moon formed. Some people thought the Moon was floating (漂浮) through space and got caught by the Earth’s gravity (引力). But no matter how it formed, one thing is for sure: the Moon is an amazing part of our universe. We are still learning about it. Keep looking up, and maybe one day you’ll find something amazing too!

A.Theia hitting the Earth. B.Rocks flying into space.
C.Magma becoming rocks. D.Mars colliding with Theia.
48.How did the scientists work out the Moon’s age?
A.By making a new tool. B.By studying the mineral.
C.By collecting the rocks. D.By travelling into space.
49.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.The Moon can’t shine itself in the sky. B.We have seasons because of the Moon.
C.The weather changes with the Moon. D.The Moon is important to life on Earth.
50.What does the writer suggest (建议) in the last paragraph?
A.Looking for amazing things. B.Continuing studying the Moon.
C.Sharing stories about the Moon. D.Watching the Moon more often.

【答案】Dear friends,
I’m proud to be here to share what we’ve done with you.
Above all, helping parents at home makes us feel happy. We often tidy up our rooms, do some washing, and prepare breakfast for family members. Also, it’s meaningful to offer our support to the society. We volunteer to separate waste into different groups in our community. We send some books and clothes to the poor children as well. We offer to help the elderly at the weekends.
Our group members have decided to do something to make a difference. We’ll help my parents with housework as much as we can. What’s more, our members even plan to plant more trees to improve the environment. Through our tiny actions, all of us can be richer and happier in our life.
Hope you can join us!
Best wishes!
Doris

47.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

Dear friends,
I’m proud to be here to share what we’ve done with you.

47.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
