Summer Camps for Kids
Drama Camps
Drama camps are a great choice for children wanting to be actors. Most drama camps have a weekly theme. So with that being said, be sure to pick the week that your child is most excited about. You will find many have Harry Potter themed weeks.
Drama camps are filled with fun acting lessons, singing lessons, and typically a production showcase at the end of each week for the campers to showcase their new skills and talents they have learned.

At the end of this camp you will be picking up your teenager who has made new friends, challenged themselves and has made lasting memories for themselves.

【3题详解】
推理判断题。根据Drama Camps部分中“So with that being said, be sure to pick the week that your child is most excited about.(所以说,一定要选择你的孩子最兴奋的那一周)”;Camp Fire部分中“At the end of this camp you will be picking up your teenager who has made new friends, challenged themselves and has made lasting memories for themselves.(在这个夏令营结束时,你将去接你的孩子,他/她已经结交了新朋友,挑战了自己,并留下了美好的回忆)”;Summer Reading Camps部分中“Summer reading camps are perfect for your kids who are wanting to sharpen their reading skills and increase their love of reading.(对于想要提高阅读技能和增加阅读爱好的孩子来说,阅读夏令营是完美的选择)”以及Overnight Camps部分中“Depending on the age of your child this may or may not be the best option for summer camp.(这取决于您孩子的年龄,对于参加夏令营而言,这可能是个不错的选择,也可能不是最佳选择)”可推知,这篇文章是针对家长的。故选A。
B
Last summer, I went to France for a holiday. I was so excited but also a little nervous because my French was not good.
One hot afternoon, after exploring the city, I felt really tired. I wanted to tell my French friend, Claire, “I am a little tired.” I carefully said the words I’d learned: “Je suis un pue fatigue.”
But Claire burst out laughing. My face felt hot. What had I done wrong? Claire explained, “In French, there are words that sound similar but have very different meanings. ‘peu’ means ‘a little,’ but if you pronounce it differently, it can sound like ‘pue’, which means ‘stinks’ — like something smells bad. So, instead of saying you needed a rest, it sounded like you were saying you smelled bad and were tired”
This awkward (尴尬的) moment was a real eye-opener for me. It made me realize just how daunting pronunciation can be in a foreign language. Even small differences in pronunciation can completely change the meaning of what you’re trying to say. The same is true in English, for example, “ship” (a large boat) and “sheep” (a woolly animal) sound very similar, but they mean totally different things.
Now, I pay extra attention to how words sound and what they mean. And if I mix them up again? I’ll just laugh along. After all, laughing is part of learning — even if it’s a bit stinky sometimes.
4. Why was the author nervous about his holiday in France?
A. He was poor at French. B. He never went abroad.
C. He had no friends there. D. He was in short of money.
5. What awkward moment did the author meet?
A. He got a wrong person. B. He made a pronunciation mistake.
C. He was tricked by the locals. D. He spelt a word incorrectly.
6. What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Easy. B. Natural. C. Difficult. D. Clear.
7. How did the author’s experience in France affect him?
A. He smelled bad and was tired.
B. He hated learning foreign languages.
C. He no longer considered Claire as a friend.
D. He became open to mistakes in language learning.
【答案】4. A 5. B 6. C 7. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者在法国度假时,因法语发音错误而引发的尴尬经历及从中获得的启示。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“I was so excited but also a little nervous because my French was not good.(我很兴奋,但也有点紧张,因为我的法语不好。)”可知,作者因为法语不好而感到紧张。故选A。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Claire explained, “In French, there are words that sound similar but have very different meanings. ‘peu’ means ‘a little,’ but if you pronounce it differently, it can sound like ‘pue’, which means ‘stinks’ — like something smells bad.(Claire解释说:“在法语中,有些词发音相似,但意思却大不相同。‘peu’的意思是‘一点点’,但如果你发音不同,听起来就像‘pue’,意思是‘发臭’——就像什么东西闻起来很臭。)”可知,作者遇到的尴尬时刻是发音错误。故选B。
【6题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中“This awkward (尴尬的) moment was a real eye-open er for me. It made me realize just how daunting pronunciation can be in a foreign language. Even small differences in pronunciation can completely change the meaning of what you’re trying to say.(这个尴尬的时刻让我大开眼界。它让我意识到在外语中发音是多么daunting。即使发音上的微小差异也会完全改变你想说的意思。)”可知,发音可能是困难的。因此,daunting最可能的意思是“困难的”。故选C。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Now, I pay extra attention to how words sound and what they mean. And if I mix them up again? I’ll just laugh along. After all, laughing is part of learning — even if it’s a bit stinky sometimes.(现在,我特别注意单词的发音和意思。如果我再把它们混在一起呢?我会一起笑的。毕竟,笑是学习的一部分——即使有时有点臭。)”可知,作者在法国的经历使他变得对语言学习中的错误持开放态度。故选D。

For many people, barbecues are a chance to enjoy a meal with family and friends. For Stan Hays, however, barbecuing becomes his skill to feed people in need when the disaster happens.
The unique effort began in May, when a severe tornado (龙卷风) hit Joplin, about two hours from Hays’ home. His wife asked him to help. So, he put out the word to his partners and headed down with his barbecue. “We thought we’d be there three to four days, serving maybe 5,000 meals,” Hays said. But the need was there, so Hays and over 300 volunteers worked for 11 days to meet the need.
It was a life-changing experience for Hays, who had never organized any type of large voluntary effort before. While preparing to head home, he and his friends Will Cleaver and Jeff Stith came to the realization. “A barbecue community is able to respond to disasters like this quickly,” Hays said. “So, before we left, we put together a plan to create the Operation BBQ Relief.”
During the last eight years, the group has responded to almost 60 disasters across the United States, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the wildfires in northern California. More than 6,800 volunteers have joined the effort, and the group often partners with other organizations to serve the meals.
“Barbecues are comfort food,” Hays said. “If you just lost your house or a loved one, getting a hot meal would remind you of the barbecues you had in the backyard and make you forget about the bad stuff in your life. That’s worth it to me.”
8. What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A. Volunteers couldn’t meet the requirements.
B. Supplies were far from enough for the victims.
C. Hays’ home was severely damaged by the tornado.
D. The need for food was beyond Hays’ expectation.
9. What made Hays create the Operation BBQ Relief?
A. His friends’ suggestion. B. His preference for barbecues.
C His voluntary activity in Joplin. D. His cooperation with other organizations.
10. Which word best describes Hays?
A. Warm-hearted. B. Strong-willed.
C. Broad-minded. D. Good-tempered.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. The Bright Future of Barbecues
B. Barbecues: the Best Comfort Food
C. The Role of Barbecues in Voluntary Activities
D. When Disasters Fall, They Bring Barbecues
【答案】8. D 9. C 10. A 11. D
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了,在Hays为一次龙卷风后的幸存者提供烧烤食物后,他和同伴们成立了Operation BBQ Relief非盈利组织,去帮助灾难中的幸存者,为他们提供热腾腾的烧烤食物。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。由第二段中的““We thought we’d be there three to four days, serving maybe 5,000 meals,” Hays said. But the need was there, so Hays and over 300 volunteers worked for 11 days to meet the need. (“我们以为我们会在那里呆上三到四天,提供大约5000顿饭,”Hays说。但需求是存在的,因此Hays和300多名志愿者工作了11天来满足需求)”可知,原本准备呆上三到四天的Hays最终了呆上了11天来满足需求,说明灾难之后,人们对食物的需要远远超出了Hays的想象。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。由第三段中的“It was a life-changing experience for Hays, who had never organized any type of large voluntary effort before. (这对Hays来说是一次改变生活的经历,他以前从未组织过任何类型的大型志愿活动)”和“So, before we left, we put together a plan to create the Operation BBQ Relief. (因此,在我们离开之前,我们制定了一项计划,创建烧烤救济行动)”可知,是Hays在Joplin的一次志愿救灾经历让他成立了“烧烤救济行动”这个组织。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文可知,Hays积极去做志愿者帮助处于灾难中的人,并成立一个非盈利组织给灾难中的幸存者提供食物,由此可推知他是热心肠的(Warm-hearted)。故选A项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文可知,在Hays为一次龙卷风后的幸存者提供烧烤食物后,他和同伴们成立了Operation BBQ Relief (烧烤救济行动)非盈利组织,去帮助灾难中的幸存者,为他们提供热腾腾的烧烤食物,D项“当灾难降临时,他们会带来烧烤”符合文意。故选D项。
D
In a study published earlier this year in Psychological Science, a team of researchers reported a link between spoken fluency and death risk. The group, led by Paolo Ghisetta of the University of Geneva, made use of data from the Berlin Aging Study.
Between 1990 and 2009, investigators assessed the thinking abilities of more than 500 participants who were 70 years old or more when the study began. Specifically, the researchers measured their “sensory speed, event-based memory, spoken fluency, and spoken knowledge” All of the study’s participants have now passed away, and researchers can use the results to see if any of these measures are predictive of how long the participants lived.
Somewhat surprisingly, out of the four thinking measures mentioned above, only one was related to decreased death risk: spoken fluency. Specifically, Ghisetta and his team found “an almost nine-year predicted difference in survival time between the study participants with high or low values on spoken fluency.”
The study supports earlier research on this topic. In 2016, for example, researchers found an association between reading and living longer. They reported that participants who read books had a 23-month “survival advantage” compared to non-readers.
But how much reading was necessary for such an association to be observed? The researchers said just 30 minutes a day was sufficient. But they stressed that the strongest association in this study was found for participants who primarily read books as opposed to newspapers and magazines.
Why might reading fiction bring advantages not seen with reading factual material? One possibility is that the labor required to create a fictional world in one’s head, along with the effort required to keep track of who said what, and who knows what, can have beneficial thinking effects.
Still, the development of one’s spoken fluency and the reading of fiction are not a cure-all that can magically stave off the effects of aging on the mind and body. But evidence is growing that specific thinking abilities and behaviors are associated with a lot of benefits, including a longer life.
12. What do we know about Ghisetta’s study?
A. It lasted for a really long period of times.
B. It involved more than a thousand people.
C. It tracked participants from young to old.
D. It focused on spoken fluency of the elderly.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about concerning Ghisetta’s study?
A. Its major limitations. B. Its supporting evidence.
C. Its research method. D. Its significant findings.
14. Why is fiction more helpful than factual reading?
A. It strengthens spoken fluency. B. It requires more thinking effort.
C. It brings emotional relaxation. D. It improves event-based memory.
15. What does the underlined part “stave off” in the last paragraph mean?
A. ignore. B. Assess. C. Prevent. D. Predict.
【答案】12. A 13. D 14. B 15. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍多项研究发现口语流利度、阅读(尤其小说)与长寿相关,同时解释相关原因及研究局限性。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Between 1990 and 2009, investigators assessed the thinking abilities of more than 500 participants who were 70 years old or more when the study began.(1990年至2009年间,研究人员对500多名参与者的思维能力进行了评估,这些参与者在研究开始时均为70岁及以上。)”可知,该研究从1990年持续到2009年,持续时间很长。故选A项。
【13题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中的“Somewhat surprisingly, out of the four thinking measures mentioned above, only one was related to decreased death risk: spoken fluency. Specifically, Ghisetta and his team found “an almost nine-year predicted difference in survival time between the study participants with high or low values on spoken fluency.” (有点令人惊讶的是,在上述四项思维指标中,只有一项与降低死亡风险相关:口语流利度。具体来说,吉塞塔和他的团队发现,“口语流利度高和低的研究参与者之间,预测的存活时间相差近9年”)”可知,该段主要阐述了吉塞塔研究的重要发现——口语流利度与长寿相关。故选D项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段中的“Why might reading fiction bring advantages not seen with reading factual material? One possibility is that the labor required to create a fictional world in one’s head, along with the effort required to keep track of who said what, and who knows what, can have beneficial thinking effects.(为什么阅读小说能带来阅读纪实类材料所没有的益处?一种可能性是,在脑海中构建虚构世界需要耗费脑力,同时还要费力记住谁谁说了什么、谁知道什么,这些过程能对思维产生有益影响。)”可知,阅读小说比阅读纪实类材料更有帮助,是因为小说需要更多的思维努力。故选B项。
【15题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“Still, the development of one’s spoken fluency and the reading of fiction are not a cure-all that can magically stave off the effects of aging on the mind and body.(尽管如此,提升口语流利度和阅读小说并非万能药,无法神奇地stave off衰老对身心的影响。)”

____2____ was based on Chinese children's book Ma Liang With the Magical Pen是一个非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词The Magical Pen,关系词在从句中作主语,指物,that不能引导非限制性定语从句,用which引导该从句,所以填which。
【38题详解】
考查副词。句意:然而,在接下来的几年里,中国的动漫产业落后了。上文说“中国的动画片获得了几个国际奖项”,而这里说“中国的动漫产业落后了”,它们之间形成一种转折关系,用副词however,句子第一个单词首字母大写,所以填However。
【39题详解】
考查名词。句意:但近年来,中国动漫产业发展迅速。形容词fast后用名词,所以填growth。
【40题详解】
考查非谓语动词。____5____ (beat) down the Hollywood movie Zootopia in China.在句中作结果状语,beat与其逻辑主语Ne Zha之间是主动关系,用现在分词,所以填beating。
【41题详解】
考查固定句型。句意:导演杨花了五年时间将这个故事搬上了大银幕,使它既适合儿童也适合成人。It takes sb. some time to do sth.花费某人多长时间做某事,该句型是固定句型,其中it是形式主语,真正的主语是后面的不定式结构,所以填to bring。
【42题详解】
考查主语从句。___7___ surprised the audience most是一个主语从句,引导词在从句中作主语,表示“让观众最吃惊的事情”,用what引导该从句,句子第一个单词首字母大写,所以填What。
所以填as。
【45题详解】
考查冠词。句意:毋庸置疑,《哪吒》对于中国动漫产业来说是一个巨大的成功。 success 作为“成功的人或事情”是可数名词。文中泛指“一个巨大的成功”,big是以辅音音素开头的词,所以填不定冠词a。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节和给定段落开头语进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
There are many things that we should be thankful for in life, but many people aren’t, including me.
Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom. Kind and caring, she always seemed to make people comfortable . For years she was a volunteer in our community. I loved going to the local nursing home to help her until I became a teenager. Suddenly, I was too caught up in my world to worry about helping others.
One summer day when I was twelve, Mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car. I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin(破坏) everything? Eventually, I made my way outside. I imagined the lake water cooling my skin. Feeling angry, I climbed into the car and slammed the door shut. I sat in silence, too upset to make a conversation.
“Tasha, would you like to know where we are going?” Mom asked calmly.
“I guess…,” I murmured(嘟哝) under my breath.
“Sweetheart, we are going to a children’s shelter, I have been there before and I think it would benefit you,” she explained.
I felt even more angry. How was I supposed to help there?
When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. It was a large white Victorian home. As we got close to the large front porch, wind bells played a calming tune while trees and flowers welcomed us. Maybe this wasn’t going to be so bad.
Mom rang the doorbell. The door opened and we were shown to the front room, where all of the children were playing. Toys were spread out across the floor. I noticed a baby with wounds on his body. The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars(伤疤) such as cuts, scratches(抓伤) and burns. What a terrible life they had before they moved here! My heart sank.
As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I returned to the shelter with Mom several times.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
As I was Looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to see a little girl with brown eyes looking up at me. Her angelic face lighted, although there were some scars on her little arms. “Hi. I’m Ashley. Do you want to play dolls with me?” she asked. I looked over and saw Mom nodding to me with a smile. I bent toward Ashley and whispered, “Sure. I’d love to.” Her tiny hand reached up and took mine, and we walked toward the doll house. Our time together brought her great joy and fun and she also made my day.
I returned to the shelter with Mom several times. During those visits, some of the children including Ashley shared their troubled pasts with me in great detail. I felt sorry for what had happened to them and treasured the friendship between us. I would like to do everything in my power to help the children there. At the same time, I learned to be grateful for all that I had. It was a meaningful time in my young life that I will never forget. It was Mom who taught me the valuable lesson that summer.

C
9 What made Hays create the Operation BBQ Relief?
A. His friends’ suggestion. B. His preference for barbecues.
C. His voluntary activity in Joplin. D. His cooperation with other organizations.
10. Which word best describes Hays?
A. Warm-hearted. B. Strong-willed.
C. Broad-minded. D. Good-tempered.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. The Bright Future of Barbecues
B. Barbecues: the Best Comfort Food
C. The Role of Barbecues in Voluntary Activities
D. When Disasters Fall, They Bring Barbecues
The researchers said just 30 minutes a day was sufficient But they stressed that the strongest association in this study was found for participants who primarily read books as opposed to newspapers and magazines.
A. ignore. B. Assess. C. Prevent. D. Predict.

第二节(满分25分)

I returned to the shelter with Mom several times.
