It’s mainly an indoor game, and the season(赛季) goes from the late fall, through the winter, to early spring. There are many professional teams but, for the most part, basketball is a school sport. For many, Chinese characters seem like complex symbols. However, Lena, a 20-year-old American college student, views them in a unique way. To her, each character has its own story. She pictures“ren”(person) as a cat’s face, and “ceng” (once) as an angry robot.
Lena gained popularity when she spent only 30 minutes drawing “ceng” and posted it on rednote (or Xiaohongshu). Amazingly, this simple drawing got 40,000 likes overnight. Now, her creative artworks raise discussions about language, art, and cultural exchange.
Growing up in a diverse community with many Asians, Lena was surrounded by different languages and cultures. “As a child, I had Chinese friends. I was fascinated by seeing their names on lunch boxes. This language was so new to me, completely different from Western languages,” Lena remembered. This early curiosity remained with her and reappeared in college during a US-China relations course, which deepened her interest in modern Chinese culture.
Deep in rednote, Lena noticed more characters that looked like various objects. She describes herself as imaginative and highly perceptive, often spotting details others miss.
Besides drawing, Lena translates all her posts into Chinese to show respect to her followers. Her efforts have helped her make Chinese friends online, chatting about daily life and food. Some followers said Lena understands the beauty of Chinese characters better than many Chinese. “It’s because you’re used to them,” Lena replied, adding the opposite is also true. For example, she learned from Chinese friends that “orz” looks like a person bowing in apology, but it means nothing in English. “It’s something I never thought of. That’s the result of a non-native looking at unfamiliar characters,” she said.
As Lena plans to share more character-inspired art on rednote, her story shows a truth: language is more than words; it’s about connection and understanding the world from others’ perspectives.
24. How did Lena become popular on rednote?
A. By posting creative drawings of Chinese characters.
B. By translating English articles into Chinese.
C. By sharing her daily life in China.
D. By having online chats with Chinese netizens.
25. What deepened Lena’s interest in modern Chinese culture?
A. Her Chinese friends. B. Using rednote.
C. A US-China relations course. D. Drawing Chinese characters.
26. Why did Lena mention the example“orz”?
A. To show non-natives’ unique views. B. To prove followers’ over-praise.
C. To explain learning difficulty. D. To analyze grammar differences.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Lena gains popularity on campus.
B. Creative characters bridge language and culture.
C. Diverse background increases Lena’s interest.
D. Chinese characters: more than simple symbols.
【答案】24. A 25. C 26. A 27. B

C
On Perranporth beach in Cornwall, the local outdoor swimming group, the Perranporth Bluetits, jump into the Atlantic on cold days. Their friendship and sense of achievement are obvious. Encouraged by such refreshing experiences, community groups and the voluntary area have started designing “blue care” programmes to connect people with water. Some doctors even strongly recommend “bluespace” activities.
Encouraged by the health benefits of open water swimming, my team and I did the largest survey of open-water swimmers to date. Our study, published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, shows that wild swimming improves mental (心理的) health by satisfying mental needs like freedom and control in the water.
As part of the Blue Health project, we surveyed around 20,000 adults in 19 countries about their interactions (互动) with blue spaces and their health. Among them, 1,200 reported swimming in blue spaces, including open-air pools, lakes, rivers and the sea. Wild swimming has more important benefits.
Surprisingly though, social connection did not play as big a role in these effects on mental health as we had expected, although the number of community swimming groups like the Perranporth Bluetits is increasing. At least in this international group, personal achievement seemed to be more influential than community connection. However, more skilled swimmers, who often choose adventurous places, sometimes reported higher anxiety (焦虑) levels. This suggests that wild swimming can be good but also challenging.
These findings add to earlier research on open-water swimming. They show that this activity is good for the physical and mental health of adults from different countries, explain how these benefits happen, and point out the discrepancy between natural waters and man-made outdoor pools. So, should we all be jumping in and recommending such experiences for better mental health?
The research does not quite support that yet. We need to be realistic about some of the other challenges our oceans face, such as drowning (溺水) risks and polluted waters. Still, our results support research into recommending getting close to nature to improve certain health conditions. This is something that the UK government is prepared to spend millions on.
28. What is the activity of the Perranporth Bluetits according to paragraph 1?
A. Running on the beach. B. Playing in indoor pools.
C. Doing scientific research. D. Swimming in the Atlantic.
29. How does wild swimming improve mental health?
A. By reducing anxiety levels. B. By meeting mental needs.
C. By improving social connection. D. By increasing body strength.
30. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Connection. B. Problem. C. Difference. D. Balance.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Wild swimming is risk-free for mental health.
B. Polluted waters are worse than drowning risks.
C. Research advises everyone to try wild swimming.
D. The UK supports health studies on nature connection.
【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. D

【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“On Perranporth beach in Cornwall, the local outdoor swimming group, the Perranporth Bluetits, jump into the Atlantic on cold days. (在康沃尔郡的佩伦波斯海滩上,当地的户外游泳团体“佩伦波斯蓝山雀”会在寒冷的日子跳进大西洋。)”可知,该团体的活动是跳入大西洋游泳。故选D项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Our study, published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, shows that wild swimming improves mental (心理的) health by satisfying mental needs like freedom and control in the water. (我们发表在《环境心理学杂志》上的研究表明,野外游泳通过满足在水中的自由和控制等心理需求来改善心理健康。)”可知,野外游泳改善心理健康的机制是满足精神需求。故选B项。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词的上文“These findings add to earlier research on open-water swimming. They show that this activity is good for the physical and mental health of adults from different countries, explain how these benefits happen (这些发现为早先对开放水域游泳的研究提供了新的证据。它们表明,这项活动对来自不同国家的成年人的身心健康都有好处,解释这些好处是如何发生的)”和下文“between natural waters and man-made outdoor pools (在天然水域和人造室外游泳池之间)”可知,上下文强调野外游泳与人造泳池的差异,前者对身心健康有益,画线词意思应该是“不同,差异”,与Difference“不同”意思接近。故选C项。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Still, our results support research into recommending getting close to nature to improve certain health conditions. This is something that the UK government is prepared to spend millions on. (尽管如此,我们的研究结果支持了建议亲近自然以改善某些健康状况的研究。这是英国政府准备投入数百万资金的事情。)”可知,英国支持有关自然联系的健康研究。故选D项。
D
Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have led to significant breakthroughs in translation technologies. AI translation is useful in some situations. For example, helping teachers communicate with parents who speak a different language, or when travelling. Translation technology may even help protect endangered languages from disappearing by supporting online collections of literature. With AI-powered technology in these digital libraries, more people can appreciate these works.
But while technology can translate messages, it misses an important part of human communication — the cultural nuances (细微差别) behind the words. So, while AI translation can bridge language gaps and make communication easier, it’s important to be clear about the benefits and challenges it presents. Relying only on technology to translate between languages will finally lead to misunderstandings and a less rich human experience.
The new technology also comes with limitations. In 2019, workers at an immigration (移民) center in the United States used AI translation to deal with an asylum (庇护) case. The voice tool could not understand the applicant’s accent, and the person was kept there for six months without being able to explain clearly. In 2021, a police officer used Google Translate to ask a Spanish-speaking woman if he could search her car. The app chose a wrong word, which caused confusion.
Learning additional languages also stands out as one of the best ways to improve ourselves, with benefits for brain health, social skills, cultural understanding, and career opportunities. A study in 2022 found that people who speak more than one language have quicker minds and may delay brain aging. It also showed that learning several languages helps people respect and understand each other better.
While AI-powered translation technology has its uses, a great deal can be lost if we rely only on it to communicate. The nuances of languages, and what they say about different cultures, are difficult to communicate via translation tools. And the benefits of being bilingual (双语的) or multilingual — both personally and for the wider society — risk being lost if we don’t support second language learning.
32. What does paragraph 1 stress about AI translation?
A. Its literary value. B. Its advanced tools.
C. Its future development. D. Its practical applications.
33. What can be inferred about AI translation from the examples in paragraph 3?
A. It takes little time to be reliable in daily life.
B. It can make serious errors in important cases.
C. It works better with written texts than speech.
D. It will replace human translators sooner or later.
34. Why is the 2022 study mentioned in the text?
A. To support a point. B. To stress a problem.
C. To introduce a topic. D. To question a belief.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. AI Translation: The Technology Develops Fast
B. Relying on Technology: The Costs Are Unseen
C. AI Era: Why We Still Need Language Learning
D. Language Education: How AI Changes the Way We Learn
【答案】32. D 33. B 34. A 35. C

My English Learning
When I entered senior high, my biggest problem was that I couldn’t keep new words in mind, struggling to spell and use them properly. I often felt frustrated because I failed to express my ideas accurately in English assignments and conversations due to my poor vocabulary.
Instead of giving up, I started to make efforts to work out this problem positively. First of all, I formed a habit of reading difficult words aloud twice a day—once in the morning and once before bed. Besides, I memorized words by syllables and linked vivid images with them, which made it interesting and effective to learn these words. In addition, I also used a vocabulary APP to review words on the weekends and took notes while reading English novels or newspapers. With great determination and tireless efforts, I kept practicing making sentences with useful words and expressions.
Gradually, I made great progress. Now I can remember words easily and use them correctly in sentences. I not only feel more confident in English reading, but also enjoy collecting interesting words from Teens. This change has made English learning much more enjoyable!

第二节 读后续写(满分20分)
77. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语(续写第一段已给出)续写一段话,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Alice was a senior high school student who lived at home with her parents rather than living in the school dorm. Every day, her mom Coco would nag (唠叨) her a lot, and this had lasted for years.
In the morning, before Alice went to school, Coco would stand by the door and say, “Alice, don’t use your phone when the teacher is talking.” When Alice came back home after school, Coco would keep asking, “Did you make any new friends at school? Getting along well with your classmates is really important.” Sometimes, she would also say, “Tell me something interesting that happened at school today.”
At first, Alice tried to listen patiently. But as time went by, she got more and more tired of Coco’s nagging. She often thought, “Mom talks too much. I wish I could go to a university in another city. That way, she won’t nag me all the time.”
Two years later, Alice’s dream came true. She was admitted to a university far away from home. However, one month before she left, Coco started nagging again, this time about her college life.“Remember to wash your clothes regularly in college. Study hard but also take care of your health,” Coco would repeat every day. Alice felt even more annoyed. When the day came for her to leave home, she was very happy, thinking she would finally be free from her mom’s nagging.
But things didn’t go as Alice expected at college. One roommate liked to stay up late watching movies, and the other often left her things everywhere. Alice didn’t know how to get along with them. Besides, she had no idea how to manage her spare time meaningfully. She didn’t have many friends there. Her heart was brimming with a feeling of being alone.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸相应位置作答。

She picked up her phone to call Coco. As soon as Coco answered, she said softly, “Mom, I miss your nagging. My roommates are difficult to get along with, and I don’t know how to manage my time.” Coco listened patiently and gave gentle advice: “Try talking to your roommates nicely about your sleep schedule, and also, join a club to make friends.” She also reminded Alice to eat healthy and get enough sleep. Alice nodded repeatedly, tears welling up in her eyes. For the first time, she felt the warmth of her mom’s words.
Alice felt much better after talking to her mom on the phone.

Gradually, she no longer felt like a stranger in the new city. From then on, whenever she faced troubles, she’d call her mom, no longer feeling annoyed by the nagging. Instead, she knew it was the most precious gift her mom could give — a love that followed her, even from far away.

C Research advises everyone to try wild swimming.
D. The UK supports health studies on nature connection.

With gas prices rising and airport security lines longer than ever, why not book your next domestic (国内的) vacation on a train? Compared to other alternatives, it’s comfortable and relaxing. ___36___
Plan ahead. Most long-distance trains, especially the sleeping car accommodations, sell out very quickly. ___37___ But no matter when you travel, it’s a good idea to book your tickets at least 90 days in advance.
Use a travel agent. Consider turning your travel plan over to a travel agent (旅行社) and letting him double-check all the details, make suggestions, and then handle the actual reservations. A good one can sometimes find you discounted (打折) tickets. ___38___ Then you won’t have to walk through several cars on a moving train three times a day for your meals.
Bring a blanket. When you’re riding on trains, you won’t be provided with a blanket (毯子) for free, even if your trip is an overnight one. ___39___ In the summer in particular, the air conditioning can make them quite cold.
Arrive early. Most trains operate just once a day and some run only three times a week, so missing yours can be a disaster. ___40___ Note: The times listed on the schedules are departure times, not arrival times.
Have fun. Train trips aren’t for impatient types. Read a book, knit, do a crossword puzzle, or simply watch the world unfold outside the window. To calculate your speed as you do, divide 3,600 (the number of seconds in an hour) by the number of seconds it takes you to travel one mile (the distance between two mileposts). If it takes the train 53 seconds to travel one mile, you’re going 67.92 mph.
A. You’ll have views from both sides of the train.
B. The temperature on rail cars is often hard to control.
C. That’s quite true during busy summer months.
D Chances are the cost will be a lot less than the cost of one bedroom.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸相应位置作答。
One evening, Alice found herself missing the very words she used to hate.
