Have you ever noticed the colors of popular brands (品牌)? Many fast-food restaurants use red and yellow, while banks and tech companies often choose blue. This is no coincidence (巧合). There is a whole field of study called color psychology (心理学) that looks at how colors affect our feelings and actions in marketing (营销). Businessmen use this knowledge to influence how we see products and encourage us to buy them.
Red is a strong and exciting color. It can actually make us feel hungrier and want to act quickly. This makes it a top choice for fast-food chains (连锁店) and sales. It catches our eye and even makes our hearts beat a little faster. Yellow is linked to happiness and optimism (乐观), helping to attract customers. When red and yellow are used together, they are believed to make people feel hungry and less patient, encouraging them to eat quickly.
On the other hand, blue is a calm and peaceful color. It makes people feel safe and builds trust. This is the main reason why banks, social media platforms, and hospitals use it — they want to show that they are reliable. Green, the color of nature, often represents health, growth, hope and money. You will often see it used by companies that sell natural products, aim to protect the environment, or offer financial services.
For businesses, choosing the right colors is a key step in building a brand. A good color choice can send a message about a company’s values without using any words. It creates a hidden connection with customers, which can turn a quick look into a long-term relationship.
8. Why is red often used in fast-food restaurants according to the passage?
A. To connect themselves with nature and health.
B. To help customers feel calm and relaxed.
C. To make customers trust the brand.
D. To make people feel hungry and encourage them to eat quickly.
9. What can be inferred about the use of blue in marketing?
A. It is used to show peace and reliability. B. It is not a popular color for company logos.
C. Technology companies never use this color. D. It is mainly used to make people feel hungry.
10. Which statement about color choices is true according to the passage?
A. Color choices are more important than products.
B. Colors choices should be changed every year.
C. Color choices are made by studying customer psychology.
D. Color choices mostly depend on the development of fast-food restaurants.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The History of Fast-food Restaurants. B. The Psychology of Color in Marketing.
C. Color Meanings in Different Cultures. D. The Use of Colors in Art.
D 9. A 10. C 11. B
根据第二段“Red is a strong and exciting color. It can actually make us feel hungrier and want to act quickly.(红色是一种强烈而令人兴奋的颜色。它实际上能让我们感到更饥饿,并且想要迅速采取行动。)”以及“When red and yellow are used together, they are believed to make people feel hungry and less patient, encouraging them to eat quickly.(人们认为,当红色与黄色搭配使用时,会让人感到饥饿且耐心下降,从而促使他们快速用餐。)”
根据第三段“On the other hand, blue is a calm and peaceful color. It makes people feel safe and builds trust. This is the main reason why banks, social media platforms, and hospitals use it — they want to show that they are reliable.(另一方面,蓝色是一种平静而祥和的颜色。它能让人感到安全,并且建立信任。这正是银行、社交媒体平台和医院使用蓝色的主要原因——它们希望展现自身的可靠性。)”可知,蓝色用于体现和平与可靠。故选A。
根据第一段“This is no coincidence. There is a whole field of study called color psychology that looks at how colors affect our feelings and actions in marketing. Businessmen use this knowledge to influence how we see products and encourage us to buy them.(这绝非巧合。有一门专门的研究领域叫做色彩心理学,它探究营销场景中色彩如何影响人们的情绪与行为。商家会利用这一知识,影响我们对产品的看法,并促使我们购买。)”可知,颜色选择是通过研究消费者心理做出的。故选C。
【11题详解】

In the summer months, fireflies (萤火虫) become lively, starting their “love stories”. Male fireflies fly around and a part of their belly (腹部) will light up. Then females sitting on the ground look up at the show and flash back to the males they like. They’re not going to mate (交配) unless they’ve exchanged these light signals (信号).
Firefly species have performed that for millions of years, lit only by the moon. Now humans are damaging their feelings, turning on street lights and LEDs at the fireflies’ summer party.
In the firefly world, it’s the females who are particularly turned off by man-made light. Owens, a researcher at Harvard University, led studies in experimental conditions and field conditions and found that male fireflies often keep flashing (闪光) under street lights and other kinds of overhead light, while female fireflies, active at night, basically shut down and stop reacting.
“Probably because they just can’t see the males very well,” Owens explained. “Typically male fireflies are looking down. Female fireflies are looking up at street lights and other light sources.” In lab conditions, not one of 20 pairs mated successfully under bright lights, while about half of firefly couples mated successfully in natural dim light.
In the last decade, the night sky became twice as bright due to the increasing use of LEDs, Owens said, which hurts the populations of fireflies. Sadly, no fireflies are protected under the Endangered Species Act presently.
“I like people to think about firefly extinction (灭绝) as sitting in a room of candles, and it’s beautiful,” said Sara Lewis, a professor of biology at Tufts University. “And if one or two of those candles went out, you probably don’t even notice it, but if that continues, eventually you are left sitting in complete darkness.”
12. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Telling their love stories. B. Exchanging light signals of love.
C. Mating and raising babies. D. Holding summer parties.
13. What is a serious danger of man-made light to fireflies?
A. It makes the female blind. B. It causes them to get lost.
C. It stops the female from reacting. D. It forces the male to shut off.
14. What influences the success of firefly mating according to the research?
A. The brightness of surrounding light. B. The male and female mating time.
C. The size of male and female. D. The number of firefly couples.
15. What does Sara Lewis say about the firefly extinction?
A. It will surely happen eventually. B. It produces a beautiful story.
C. It happens in a room of candles. D. It will come if nothing is done.
B 13. C 14. A 15. D
根据第一段中“They’re not going to mate (交配) unless they’ve exchanged these light signals (信号).(除非它们交换了这些光信号,否则它们不会交配)”以及第二段中“Firefly species have performed that for millions of years, lit only by the moon.(萤火虫物种已经这样做了数百万年,只靠月光照明)”可知,“that”指代的是前文提到的萤火虫通过交换光信号来进行求偶的行为,即“Exchanging light signals of love(交换爱的光信号)”。
根据第三段中“while female fireflies, active at night, basically shut down and stop reacting.(而夜间活跃的雌性萤火虫基本上会停止活动,不再做出反应)”可知,人造光对萤火虫的严重危害是它使雌性萤火虫停止反应。
根据第四段中“In lab conditions, not one of 20 pairs mated successfully under bright lights, while about half of firefly couples mated successfully in natural dim light.(在实验室条件下,20对萤火虫中没有一对在强光下成功交配,而在自然昏暗的光线下,大约有一半的萤火虫成功交配)”可知,周围光线的亮度影响萤火虫交配的成功。故选A。
根据最后一段中“And if one or two of those candles went out, you probably don’t even notice it, but if that continues, eventually you are left sitting in complete darkness.(如果其中一两根蜡烛熄灭了,你可能甚至都不会注意到,但如果这种情况持续下去,最终你将坐在完全的黑暗中)”可知,Sara Lewis认为如果什么都不做,萤火虫灭绝就会到来。故选D。

A beautiful and rich lady always told her doctor that she showed no interest in anything, so the doctor called over an old woman called Mary. She cleaned the office floors. The doctor said to the rich lady, “All I want you to do is to listen to Mary’s story.”
Mary sat on a chair and told her story. “Well, my husband died of cancer and three months later, my only son died in a car accident. I had nothing left. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I never smiled at anyone. I thought life meant nothing to me. I even thought of ending my own life.”
“Then one evening, a cat followed me home from work. I felt sorry for that cat. It was cold outside, so I decided to let it in. I gave it some milk, and it soon had it. Then it rubbed (蹭) against my leg, and for the first time, I smiled. I even felt kind of happy.

11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

In the summer months fireflies (萤火虫) become lively, starting their “love stories”.
A The brightness of surrounding light.
