When I was a teenager, I became interested in music. I can still remember sitting up in the big chair next to the piano and listening to my father play for hours. Besides, I used to give myself concerts in my bedroom.
I raised my kids with a lot of music, too. My oldest son’s first memory of music was country music, and it became his favorite. My oldest daughter would come to me when she heard waltz. She would say, “Dance, Mommy, dance!” Then I would pick her up and dance around the room. Each of my children had their own special songs with their names in it. And I would sing all kinds of songs for them, including their own songs, for about an hour each night before they went to sleep.
Now I am a grandmother and music still plays an important part in our family’s daily lives. My youngest grandson is only three years old, but he loves music very much! He has his own music player in his room. When we play music he likes, he will jump up and down and laugh.
Someone once asked me if music says things that words can not. At first I was going to say no. Then I remembered some great pieces of music. They are so good that I can’t express myself when I listen to them. So, yes, music can say things that words can not!

In the United States, people like to say “Thank you” when others help them or say something kind to them. People of many other countries do so, too. It is a very good habit.
You should say “Thank you” when someone passes you something on the table, when someone opens the door for you, when someone says you have done your work well, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is very beautiful. “Thank you” is used not only between friends, but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives.
“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. When you hear someone say so behind you, you know that somebody wants to walk past you without touching you. It’s not polite to interrupt (打断) others when they are talking. If you want to speak to one of them, say “Excuse me” first, and then begin talking. When you are not confident, you can’t do well in what you want to do. But how to be more confident? Here is some advice.
Speak loudly. Try to speak loudly enough so that people can hear you clearly. The high voice can help you become more confident.
Play sports. Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence.
Encourage yourselves. Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Give yourselves praise for the good things you’ve done.
Get rid of (消除) fears. Fears come along with failure. But it is easy to solve if you know that failure is a part of your life. Don’t hide your head just because you said something stupid last time. Try to start again and believe you can do better.

Firstly, when you feel bad, you can listen to music. Nice music can make you relaxed and help you forget unhappy things and small problems. Secondly, talk to someone you trust, like your parents. They can share their ways to deal with bad moods. Keeping your feelings inside will only make things worse. Thirdly, go for a run, play ball games or do other easy outdoor sports.
