One day, Becky was waiting inside her family’s car while her mother was shopping. Becky was trying to finish her math homework, but it was getting dark outside. She wondered how she could solve her problem. “So I thought it would be great to have my paper light up,” Becky said.
Becky was certain she had a good idea, she just needed to turn it into a good plan. She thought about her glow-in-the-dark (在黑暗中发光的) Frisbees (飞盘) in her toy box and studied them. She learned that they used phosphorescence (磷光).
Becky’s father took her to a store, and there they bought some phosphorescent paint. Becky tried out her idea in her bathroom. It was a great place to test her idea because it was the darkest room in the house. First, she applied (涂) the special paint to a piece of paper and held the paper up to a light bulb. When she turned the light off, the paint on the paper glowed. Next, Becky applied the special paint to a plastic board. She held the board up to the light bulb and found that the painted board glowed. Over the next couple of years, Becky improved her invention. She named it the Glo-sheet (发光的纸). Then she became the youngest woman inventor in the U.S. history.
Soon a newspaper told a story about Becky’s invention. People and businesses began ordering the Glo-sheet. Family rules are important for teens to grow up healthily and happily. Teens, however, are always testing their limits (极限). So fights between parents and teens are nothing new. What should parents do when the fights are there? Maybe the following advice can help the parents.
· ①
Learning how to control emotions (情绪) isn’t just important to teens but parents too. Remember teens are growing and changing and their emotional control isn’t fully developed. For your teen to remain calm (镇定的), you need to remain calm first. Instead of letting your emotions get the best of you, take five minutes and calm down.
· ②
As a parent, you want your teen to be able to do their best. However, wanting teens to be perfect in grades, sports, behavior, etc. can be bad for them. Parents need to praise their teen for their hard work instead of the grade. For example, if your child is trying to complete a chore or studying for a test, praise them for their effort. While the chore might not be done perfectly or the grade might not be an A, praising them for their hard work is important.
· ③
Friends can be a tricky subject for both teens and parents. Parents want their children to hang out with the right crowd. But teens want to be able to make their own friend choices. While hanging out with the wrong crowd can make parents worried, parents need to think more about their teen’s behavior instead of the behavior of their friends. Believe that your teens will make the right choices.
Parents and teens are on different planes most of the time, so lots of different problems can show up. Being patient, both parents and teens can find the right ways to solve the problems.
42. Match the sub-title (小标题) with each part.
a. Keep emotions in check.
b. Learn about your teen’s feelings.
c. Believe in your teen’s choice of friends.
d. Set an example for your teen by being perfect.
e. Avoid asking for perfection and show praise more.
A. ①-d; ②-c; ③-a B. ①-a; ②-d; ③-b
C. ①-b; ②-e; ③-d D. ①-a; ②-e; ③-c
43. What should parents say to their child if their child got an A in the exam?
A. How many students got an A this time?
B. Did you get the best grade in your class?
C. Work harder and get a better grade next time.
D. You must have put in lots of effort. Well done!
44. What does the underlined word “tricky” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Proper. B. Difficult. C. Simple. D. Interesting.
45. What's the writer’s purpose for writing this article?
A. To share ways of making teens happy.
B. To tell teens to know more about their parents.
C. To tell parents how to get along well with their teens.
D. To explain why parents and teens have different opinions.
46. Which of the following best shows the structure of this article?
A. B. C. D.

Chinese scientists have discovered a new water reservoir (蓄水池) on the moon in the form of glass beads (玻璃珠). The glass beads might help with astronauts’ work in the future.
China’s Chang’e-5 lunar probe (月球探测器) collected something from the moon. Scientists found glass beads were hiding in it and that they held water. ▲ They are created when small things moving in space hit the moon’s surface. They take in hydrogen atoms (氢原子) carried by the solar wind and are important in the water cycle of the lunar surface.
Even though each glass bead only holds a little water, there are so many of them on the moon that scientists think there might be 270 billion metric tons of water on the moon!
This is a very important discovery. Scientists thought the moon was completely dry. But now they know it’s not! This finding helps scientists understand more about how water is stored and moves with objects in space. Do you know what is even more exciting? This discovery could help people in the future. Scientists think it might be useful for planning to build homes for humans on other planets. Isn’t that amazing?
However, some problems have to be solved. The first problem is where exactly the water on the moon comes from. Some scientists think it could be from the solar wind. Others believe it might have gotten trapped (困住) when the moon was hot. Another idea is that other objects or planets brought the water to the moon.
Using these special glass beads to support future tasks about the moon sounds like a great idea, right? But there’s also another problem. We need to find out how to turn these glass beads into water in space.
Isn't it fascinating to learn about all these discoveries? There’s still so much to find out in space!
47. Which of the following sentences can be put into “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 2?
A. Why are there glass beads? B. How many glass beads are there?
C. How did scientists find glass beads? D. Where did scientists find glass beads?
48. What’s the main idea of paragraph 4?
A. The process of the discovery. B. The idea of storing water in space.
C. The importance of the discovery. D. The plan of building homes on other planets.
49. Which of the following statement is true according to the passage?
A. Scientists believe there might be little water on the moon.
B. Scientists know exactly where the water on the moon comes from.
C. Scientists have found out how to turn the glass beads into water in space.
D. Scientists think it might be possible to build homes for humans on other planets.
50 What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Mysteries on Different Planets. B. A Water Reservoir on the Moon.
C. A Journey to the Moon’s Surface. D. A New Way to Get Water on Earth.
51. Where can we probably read this passage?
A. In a travel guide. B. In a story book. C. In a science book. D. In a health magazine.

1. —Where does the new classmate come from, Lisa?
—I don’t know. He hasn’t given a(n) ________.
A. examination B. invitation C. invention D. introduction
【答案】D
【解析】
【详解】句意:——丽莎,这位新同学来自哪里?——我不知道。他还没有做自我介绍。
考查名词辨析。examination考试;invitation邀请;invention发明;introduction介绍。根据“I don’t know. He hasn’t given a(n)…”可知,因为新同学没有做自我介绍,所以丽莎不知道他来自哪里,此处使用introduction,give an introduction“做介绍”。故选D。
2. —Did you buy any fruit on your way home from work, Mr. Zhang?
—Yes, I bought some grapes, ________ they were a little expensive.
A because B. if C. though D. unless

A. active B. lazy C. lovely D. patient
【答案】A
【解析】

Becky was certain she had a good idea, she just needed to turn it into a good plan. She thought about her glow-in-the-dark (在黑暗中发光的) Frisbees (飞盘) in her toy box and studied them. She learned that they used phosphorescence (磷光).
Becky’s father took her to a store, and there they bought some phosphorescent paint. Becky tried out her idea in her bathroom.

B. Scientists know exactly where the water on the moon comes from.
C. Scientists have found out how to turn the glass beads into water in space.
D. Scientists think it might be possible to build homes for humans on other planets.
50. What would be the best title for the passage?

One Thing I Did Successfully
Everyone wants to be successful. Last year, I joined an English speech contest. Though nervous at first, I practiced every day after school, which helped me improve my pronunciation. My teacher also gave me useful advice. Finally, I won second place!
I succeeded for two reasons. Firstly, I never gave up even when it was hard. Secondly, my teacher’s support encouraged me.
