◇Part 01
“Career talks”
1:“A pilot’s main job is to fly airplanes safely. They need to learn weather knowledge and practice emergency skills regularly.”(飞行员的核心工作是安全驾驶飞机,他们需要学习气象知识并定期练习应急技能)
例 2:“I choose to be a community worker because I want to help neighbors solve problems. This job makes me feel connected to the society.”(我选择成为社区工作者,因为我想帮助邻居解决问题,这份工作让我感觉与社会紧密相连)
例:阅读后能完成句子 “The nurse’s key responsibility is to take care of patients.”(护士的核心职责是照顾病人)。
例:从 “The job requires good communication skills and patience” 可推断该职业可能是 teacher 或 nurse。
例:“In Western countries, many people respect homemakers as a valuable career, while in China, more young people choose to work as AI engineers now.”
例:看到标题 “My Life as a Software Engineer”,可立刻判断主题是 “软件工程师的职业生活”。
例:在语篇中寻找 “need”“require” 等词,找到 “Software engineers need to master coding and problem-solving skills”。
例:从 “A firefighter must stay calm in dangerous situations” 可推理出 “courage” 是该职业的必备品质。
例:“American teenagers often choose careers based on hobbies, while Chinese students may also consider the job market’s needs, like choosing engineering because of technological development.”
In some Western countries, ‘content creator’ is a popular career for young people, and now this job is also becoming common in China.”
例:“In an English-speaking company, you might call your boss ‘Lisa’, but in a traditional Chinese company, ‘Ms. Li’ is more proper.”

实例应用:如在阅读语篇 “My Job as a Community Worker” 时,看到 “My main duty is to organize community activities... I need to talk with different people...”,可立刻定位 “职责”(organize activities)和 “技能”(communication)两大关键信息,节省逐句阅读时间。
实例应用:如当阅读句子 “AI engineers often use algorithms to solve problems.”
实例应用:如从显性信息 “A firefighter often works in dangerous situations”(消防员常处于危险环境),结合职业属性 “保障安全”,可推理出隐性需求 “courage”(勇气)和 “calmness”(冷静);从 “a teacher needs to explain knowledge clearly” 可推理出 “good expression skills”(良好的表达能力)。
阅读时可在草稿纸简单列框架,如 “Career: Chef → Duty: Cook dishes → Skill: Creativity → Reason: Love food → Value: Make people happy”。

Fu Yingchun, 34, a psychological counselor (心理咨询师) of nine years, works in Shanghai and accepts appointments (接受预约) online. A counseling (咨询) meeting, where visitors share their stories, usually lasts an hour.
Many troubles visitors face may come from dealing with relationships and sudden events. The goal of the meetings is to communicate with the guests about their troubles and discover their hidden (隐藏的) feelings, needs and wishes that they aren’t ready to share. For example, when a visitor is unhappy about the room temperature, it may be that the person is hiding some other problems, said Fu. So, counselors have to not only notice the tiny details of the visitors’ behaviors but also “translate” them according to their professional (专业的) knowledge. “It’s easier than it seems because I use empathy (同理心), so their behavior is easy to understand,” Fu said.
Hearing people’s day-to-day troubles, counselors may have their down days, too. “This is why every counselor must report to their own senior counselor. They need to speak out about their bad feelings,” Fu said.
However, Fu doesn’t regard her job as being a “Rubbish bin” for people’s complaints (抱怨). “Most of the time, I think my work has a strong social value because, in a way, counselors also save lives,” Fu said. Seeing her “patients” getting out of their bad moods, Fu gets a sense of self-worth “Also, I see visitors’ life problems as life lessons,” she added.

Today, there are still many people who don’t really know what a home organizer (收纳师) does. Many people think that home organizers just tell people they have too many things and throw them away. But that’s really not how we work. Here’s what great home organizers really do.
We don’t judge (评判) your room. Instead, we try to make it better. We know life can be busy, and that’s why rooms get untidy. That’s okay! We come to help, not to make you feel bad.

Most importantly, we see your home as a whole unit. We understand all of your needs and reorganize every part of your home to make your home a better place.
So how do you know when hiring (雇佣) a home organizer is right for you? If your home makes you feel worried, angry, or tired, you should call us. Maybe you don’t need to hire a home organizer right now, but it’s good to know what we could do to help when you’re ready.

A drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), is an aircraft without a human pilot on board. It is controlled by a pilot on the ground using a remote control.
Drone pilots do many different kinds of jobs. For example, they can use drones to take amazing photos and videos from the sky for movies or news reports. Farmers hire them to check on crops and see which parts of the field need more water. In some cities, police use drones to help find lost people or watch traffic. Drones can also deliver packages quickly, which is much faster than a delivery man on a bike.
To become a professional drone pilot, you need to learn some important skills. First, you must be good at controlling the drone smoothly and safely. This requires a lot of practice. Second, you need to understand the rules for flying drones, like where you are allowed to fly and how high you can go. Finally, for special jobs like farming or making maps, you might need to learn how to use different cameras and sensors on the drone.
This job is exciting because you can work outdoors and use cool technology (科技). However, it also has challenges. The world of work is changing very fast. In the past, people often learned one skill and did the same job for their whole life in an office or a factory. But today, things are different.
Technology (科技) is one of the biggest reasons for this change. Computers and the Internet have opened up a new world of jobs, such as web designers, social media managers and data analysts At the same time, some old jobs are disappearing because machines can now do them.
Another big change is how and where people work. Gone are the days when everyone had to sit in a traditional office from 9 to 5. Now, many people work at home, in coffee shops, or even in other countries. This is called “remote work”. With remote (远程的) work, people are free, but it also requires them to be more self-disciplined (自律的).
What’s more, people now change jobs more often. Unlike the past, people don’t stay in one job for years. They may learn new skills at some point in their life to keep up with the changing world. Lifelong learning is becoming very important.
So, what does this mean for you? First, be ready to learn new things all your life—stopping will leave you behind. Second, develop skills that machines cannot easily replace you, like creativity to come up with new ideas, critical thinking to solve difficult problems, and communication (交流) to work well with others. Finally, be open to new possibilities. The job you will do in the future may not be here today! The ability to adapt to change will be the most important skill of all.
1.What was work like for people in the past?
A.They needed to do lifelong learning. B.They worked from home or coffee shops.
C.They often changed jobs to learn new skills. D.They learned one skill and kept the same job for life.
2.The underlined word “disappearing” means “_________” in Chinese in paragraph 2.
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A.Technology is one of the main reasons for the changes in the world of work.
B.Web designers and data analysts are old jobs.

Unit 1 Career talks

(apply for)
(choose to)
(regard as)
(teamwork)
1.Becoming a dentist requires mastering stomatology knowledge and being detail-oriented.
2.My sister plans to apply for the position of software engineer.
解析:“plan to do” 后接主题句式中的 “apply for”(申请),“软件工程师” 是职业名称类核心词汇 “software engineer”,搭配 “position of” 符合表达习惯。
3.He chooses to be a firefighter because he wants to help others.
4.In Western countries, many people regard homemakers as an important career.
5.This job requires employees to have good teamwork skills.

1.When did Fu Yingchun start to work as a psychological counselor?
A.At the age of 34. B.In her thirties.
C.In her mid-twenties. D.At 19 years old.
2.What do the visitors do in a counseling meeting?
A.Make an appointment online. B.Deal with their relationships with others.
C.Share their stories. D.Think about their troubles.
3.How does Fu Yingchun do her job?
A.Teach her visitors some professional knowledge.
B.Tell her own stories to her visitors.
C.Comfort (安慰) her visitors by controlling the room temperature.
D.See reasons behind the visitors’ behaviors.
4.What do counselors do to get through their down days?
A.Take time off work. B.Stay away from other people.
C.Report to their own senior counselor. D.Share their own feelings with their patients.
5.How might Fu see her job?
A.Useless. B.Boring.
C.Meaningful. D.Magical.

Everyone wants to get a dream job. But today it’s not easy for young people to find good jobs. There are thousands of different kinds of jobs in the world. But young people often worry about making a good choice.
“Finding a job” is not the same as “choosing a job”. Many young people have jobs that they are not suitable (合适的) for. Here are a few steps to help you think about jobs that you really like or want to have.
First, it is important to know what special skills you have and what you are interested in. There is a difference between an interest and a skill. If you like watching movies, that is an interest. But if you can produce a movie, that is a skill.
Second, ask yourself a question. In the following three skills—skill with people, skill with information and skill with things, which skill are you good at?
After knowing your best skill, you can go to the library and read books, magazines and newspapers for information. You can use the Internet to find what other people think of their jobs. That will be helpful for you to make a good choice.
Finally, believe in yourself! Make a good choice and work hard to enjoy your life.
1.How does the writer feel about young people finding good jobs in Paragraph 1?
A.dangerous B.hard C.different D.easy
2.What does the underlined (划线的) sentence mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Many young people get nice jobs.
B.Many young people don’t get nice jobs.

If you love technology and have a good sense of responsibility, this could be the perfect future job for you.

D.Remote work makes people lose the chance to communicate with others.

A.The history of old jobs. B.Work in the modern world.
C.The importance of working in an office. D.Ways to find a traditional job.
