Maria Agnesi was the first woman to write a math textbook and the second woman to work as a professor at a university. She was born in 1718 in Milan, Italy. Her father was Pietro Agnesi, a wealthy nobleman and a professor of math at the University of Bologna. He recognized the talents of his daughter Maria. Treated as a gifted child, she was taught by some tutors (家庭教师) to learn five languages, philosophy and science. She was better than other girls at school in her early age.
The father invited groups of his colleagues to gather at his home and had Maria give speeches. She didn’t like performing, but she could not persuade her father to let her off the task until she was 20 years old.
Maria’s greatest mathematical achievement was authoring the two-part textbook Analytical Institutions. Maria intended the textbook to make the new field of calculus (微积分) easier to be understood by more students (including her younger brothers) and mathematicians who were interested in the subject. That’s also why she chose to write the books in Italian.
Maria fought to make math more available to people outside of the wealthy or academic circles. Many people, all over Europe, read her books in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were inspired to learn more and dive into math. In 1750, Maria became the chair of math, physics and natural sciences at the University of Bologna.
When her father died in 1752, Maria gave away all of her possessions and spent the rest of her life working with the church to help those less fortunate. In 1783, she founded a home for the elderly in Milan, where she also lived and worked.
4. What can we learn about Maria according to paragraph 1?
A. She was talented in writing books. B. She showed little interest in math.
C. Her father taught her science. D. She performed quite well in school.
5. How did Maria feel about giving speeches before her father’s colleagues?
A. Excited. B. Unpleasant. C. Uncertain. D. Proud.
6. What do we know about Analytical Institutions?
A. It made math easier for more people. B. It was mainly intended for the students.
C. It was translated into Italian and Chinese. D. It was disliked by most wealthy people.
7. What did Maria do after her father died?
A. She gave away her father’s money. B. She was devoted to helping those in need.
C. She set up a university for the elderly. D. She taught the poor math in a church.

Chinese calligraphy, known as shūfǎ, is the art of writing Chinese characters as a form of aesthetic expression. The birth of Chinese calligraphy began with the formation of Chinese characters thousands of years ago, including the inscriptions (铭文) on animal bones and tortoise shells, and the ones carved on bronze vessels (青铜器皿).
An important development of the calligraphic script is the widely known shiguwen, or the inscriptions on stone drums, upon which Qinshihuang unified the writing of characters.
Shiguwen led to the invention of dazhuan (the large-seal script), and xiaozhuan (the small-seal script) that was simpler in structure. These were followed by lishu (the clerical script), kaishu (the regular script), xingshu (the running script) and caoshu (the cursive script).
Practicing calligraphy becomes a carefree dance of the Chinese brush on paper, which is far beyond communicating the meanings of the characters being written. Calligraphy is not only about writing but emphasizes the beauty of each stroke (笔画), the balance of composition, and the expression of the artist’s inner spirit. Such writing unites Chinese people living in different corners of the country from all walks of life. Whether they are a scholar, a painter, a calligrapher or a common calligraphy lover, they share the pleasure brought by calligraphy.
The role calligraphy plays in Chinese cultural tradition is also evident in the close link between it and painting. Normally, they are mentioned in a union as shuhua (calligraphy and painting). A Chinese painting often bears calligraphy, added by its creator or collectors and viewers.
In 1926, Liang Qichao, a famous thinker and educator of modern China, gave a speech titled “A Guide to Calligraphy” at Tsinghua campus, during which he said that calligraphy is the most beautiful and convenient tool for entertaining… to calm one’s heart and mind. He went on to note that calligraphy shows the beauty of lines, the reflective glare of ink, and the strength of handwriting.
8. On which did Qinshihuang base the unified writing of characters?
A. The inscriptions on shells. B. The inscriptions on bones.
C. The inscriptions on stones. D. The inscriptions on vessels.
9. Which of the following appeared first?
A. Lishu. B. Caoshu. C. Xingshu. D. Dazhuan.
10. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The history of calligraphy. B. The function of calligraphy.
C. The combination of calligraphy and painting. D. The relationship between calligraphy and painting.
11. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To show the attraction of calligraphy. B. To teach people to enjoy calligraphy.
C. To prove the importance of calligraphy. D. To encourage people to learn calligraphy.
D
The future of transportation is heading toward greener alternatives. Transportation is one of the biggest causes of global CO2 emissions (排放). It is responsible for about 20% of total emissions. As cities grow traffic jams get worse, leading to more fuel being wasted. In fact, over 1.3 billion gallons of fuel are wasted every year because of traffic, which harms the environment even more.
To solve these problems, new sustainable transportation choices are being developed. Walking and biking are great ways to reduce emissions for short trips. These activities need little maintenance (维修) and don’t create any carbon emissions. They are perfect for traveling short distances. For longer trips, electric vehicles (EVs) like electric cars and buses are a good solution. These vehicles run on electricity stored in batteries. When charged with clean energy, they produce little to no carbon emissions. However, EVs are expensive, and they still contribute to traffic jams, which reduces some of their environmental benefits.
Electric bikes (e-bikes) are another great choice. E-bikes are like regular bikes, but they have an electric motor that helps riders travel longer distances without getting too tired.
E-bikes can go up to 20 mph, so they are perfect for moving around the city quickly and efficiently. Like EVs, e-bikes only need electricity to work, and if the electricity is clean, they produce no emissions. E-bikes come in many types, such as electric mountain bikes for off-road trips, electric road bikes for going to work, folding bikes for easy storage, and cargo bikes for carrying goods. E-bikes not only help the environment but also save space on the road, reducing traffic.
By using e-bikes and other green transportation, we can reduce our carbon footprint and help create a cleaner and healthier world for the future.
12. Which of the following may be the result of increased traffic jams?
A. Decreased fuel wastage.
B. Improved energy efficiency.
C. Reduced number of vehicles on the road.
D. Increased fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
13. What is the disadvantage of EVs?
A. They are not ideal for long travels. B. They may contribute to traffic jams.
C. They are always powered with clean energy. D. They are inexpensive and need minimal repair.
14. Which shows the author’s attitude to green transportation?
A Critical and doubtful. B. Positive and subjective.
C. Supportive and objective. D. Unconcerned and uninterested.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Traffic Jam Solutions B. The Rise of Electric Cars
C. Green Transportation of the Future D. The Benefits of electric vehicles.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给的段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The bus ride that day was uncomfortable and crowded. The windows were shut tight because the driver, Mr. Smith, had ordered to shut them because of the heavy rain. The air felt heavy, and the soft noise of kids talking and playing made it even harder to focus. As usual, I sat quietly by myself, not talking to anyone. I wiped a small spot on the window over and over again so that I could see outside.
The bus came to a stop, and I could tell from Mr. Smith’s stiff (僵直的) body that something was wrong. There had been an accident on the road, and we were stuck. The other kids didn’t seem to mind; they kept talking, laughing, and ignoring the delay. But I felt uneasy. Mr. Smith raised his voice at a couple of kids standing in the walkway, his anger clear.
Then through the foggy window, I noticed something. A little cat, completely wet and lost, stood by the side of the road, shaking in the rain. It was looking around in confusion, not knowing where to go. My heart sank. I wanted to help it, but I knew I couldn’t get off the bus without permission. I would get into big trouble for trying to rescue a cat across a busy, rainy street. I also thought that if I pointed out the poor cat, the other kids would probably think I was strange. I couldn’t bear that.
My window was cloudy again, and when I wiped the window clear, I could see the cat was now struggling in running water and shaking. I could see the fear in its big eyes. I felt a wave of helplessness wash over me. I wanted to rush off the bus without asking for permission to save the cat. But I also pictured the other kids staring at me. I sat still, unable to act. The bus began to move forward.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
However, I couldn’t sit still anymore and the urge to act was flooding.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Without a word, Mr. Smith opened the bus door, running into the rain.

A Excited. B. Unpleasant. C. Uncertain. D. Proud.
6. What do we know about Analytical Institutions?
A. It made math easier for more people. B. It was mainly intended for the students.
C. It was translated into Italian and Chinese. D. It was disliked by most wealthy people.
7. What did Maria do after her father died?

The future of transportation is heading toward greener alternatives. Transportation is one of the biggest causes of global CO2 emissions (排放). It is responsible for about 20% of total emissions. As cities grow, traffic jams get worse, leading to more fuel being wasted.
A. Critical and doubtful. B. Positive and subjective.
C. Supportive and objective. D. Unconcerned and uninterested.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Traffic Jam Solutions B. The Rise of Electric Cars
C. Green Transportation of the Future D. The Benefits of electric vehicles.

故填a。
【41题详解】
考查非谓语动词。句意:许多运动员在大赛前听音乐来增强能量和信心。本句已有谓语listen,本空为非谓语,此处表目的,用动词boost“促进,使增长”的不定式。故填to boost。
【42题详解】
考查连词。句意:研究表明,音乐可以减轻压力,甚至有助于学习。“reduce stress”和“even help with studying”为并列关系,用连词and连接。故填and。

故填which。

第二节(满分25分)
Then, through the foggy window, I noticed something.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
However, I couldn’t sit still anymore and the urge to act was flooding.

Without a word, Mr. Smith opened the bus door, running into the rain.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 However, I couldn’t sit still anymore and the urge to act was flooding. My heart was beating fast, and my body felt like it was moving on its own. I stood up and walked nervously toward the front of the bus. “Mr. Smith, I need to help that cat.” I said, my voice shaking but filled with determination. He stopped, looking at me for a long moment. His serious face softened slightly as he glanced back at the cat, still struggling in the rain.
Without a word, Mr. Smith opened the bus door, running into the rain. As Mr. Smith rushed back, holding the cat tightly, we all watched in silence. The rain had soaked him through, but his focus never wavered. Once back on the bus, he set the poor cat down on a seat and wrapped it in his coat. It was still shaking, but its fear seemed to lessen as it felt the warmth. The bus was quiet for a moment, then slowly, some of the kids began to clap. It was an unexpected moment of kindness, and I couldn’t help but feel proud.
