gifts for your friends who are birdwatchers.
A window-mounted bird feeder
One way to guarantee a close-up look at the birds in your garden is to bring them all the way
to the house. This bird feeder is solidly built with strong suction (cups that you can tie to
your windows, giving you a good view of your winged visitors.
A pair of binoculars
Binoculars are a birdwatcher's best friend! They work like two small telescopes joined
together, allowing you to use both eyes to see distant birds as if they were right in front of you.
They're perfect for spotting feathered friends in the wild, whether the birds are high up in the
trees or soaring across the sky. When you peer through them, you get a view that makes every
little detail of the birds-their colors, beaks, and even the texture of their feathers.

fact,Moss guides us through a year in the life of the robin, from the moment it hatches from its
egg to its all too timely mortality ()-the robin tends to live a mere 13 months, adding to
its precious quality.

The saying“You need to walk a
mile in their shoes"couldn't be truer. It goes for a person in a wheelchair to attend an event.
You can't fully grasp what it would be like for your attendees who use a wheelchair to
experience your event until you've sat in their seat.
With that in mind,Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)offered
participants an opportunity to attend the "Event Mobility &Accessible Design-An Immersive
Tour"in a wheelchair. The event was led by accessibility advocate Rosemarie Rossetti, who has
been in a wheelchair since an accident paralyzed()her from the waist down 25 years ago.
Rossetti took us for a test run of the wheelchair tour, which opened our eyes to the challenges
those in a wheelchair face when attending events and gave us a better understanding of how to
make those events more welcoming for them.
After we started pushing ourselves around,I was immediately reminded of a recent article
on how San Diego Comic-Con attendees were disappointed except for those in a wheelchair. The
exhibit hall of the event was not carpeted. The first thing you realize when pushing yourself in a
wheelchair is that it's far less physically taxing on cement()than on carpeting. You should
know the truth that it takes more energy and time to navigate in a wheelchair.
I hope that my temporary experience in a wheelchair won't fade from memory and that I
will look at every event with fresh eyes.In the registration form,it's not enough to ask whether
the attendees need wheelchair access but what convenience they need.
What can be especially helpful to those in wheelchairs,Rossetti shared, was to feature an
accessible navigation map in the app to highlight a wheelchair-only access route.Rossetti
accompanied planners on their site visits to make sure the attendees would be fully accessible,
but she also suggested proactive use of a wheelchair on the next site visit.
24.Why were the wheelchairs offered to the attendees at the event led by Rossetti?
A.To make disabled people know the event's challenges.
B.To help them get used to disabled persons'daily life.
C.To make the event understood better by the organizers.
D.To help them experience the event from disabled persons'view.
25.What does the underlined word "taxing"in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Demanding.B.Attractive.
C.Ignorant.
D.Rewarding
26.What does the experience inspire the author to do?
A.Organize more events.
B.Care for many attendees.
C.Make events more accessible.
D.Design advanced wheelchairs.
27.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The achievements Rossetti made in the past.
B.The feelings Rossetti had during the previous events.
C.Rossetti's suggestions on helping disabled attendees.
D.Rossetti's opinions on setting up accesses for disabled people.

We often hear about schools
cutting back on bus routes to save money, yet plenty of communities have their buses stopping
almost as often as the mail truck. The presence of sidewalks and the safety of area roads play a
role in determining who can enjoy door-to-door or off-street pickup services. But Peter
Mannella, head of the New York Association for Pupil Transportation, says community culture
can play an even larger role in traffic conditions.
For example:Several years ago,Bethlehem tried spacing out its stops, says Mannella. The
parents were displeased, expressing as much and, within three days, the routes were back to
their original frequency."You can say 'We are going to save 100,000 by not stopping at every
house,'but parents don't want their kids walking,"Mannella says.As you'd expect,this is
especially true in bad weather or during winter.
As a student in the 1980s,we walked to our stops. The neighborhood wait-spot was a good
quarter mile away..Parents didn't make a fuss(大惊小怪),and no child was injured..In fact,
the walking was good-it woke us up each morning. Not to mention the sense of community we
felt each morning waiting for the bus to pick us up and take us to school.
The thing is,a lot has changed since the 1980s.Too many people are texting and driving,
making them as dangerous on the roads as drunken drivers. And,with fewer employees in many
companies, parents often work longer hours, meaning they aren't around to guard their kids to
and from stops like many parents did when we were growing up.
So I understand that their kids don't have to walk a mile to and from school every day.I
can't agree with the complaints of having kids walk to a community neighborhood stop, though.
If you worry they're going to be cold, get them a hat.If you fear they may miss the bus, send
them out the door five minutes earlier.
28.What do we know about Bethlehem's plan?
A.It ended up in failure.
B.It lasted for a long time.
C.It wasn't put into practice.
D.It saved a lot of money.
29.What can we learn about students in the 1980s from Paragraph 3?
A.They woke up early in the morning.
B.They lived just a stone's throw from the bus stop.
C.They enjoyed socializing with neighbors.
D.They benefited by walking to a neighborhood stop.
30.Why are today's parents unwilling to let their children walk to a neighborhood stop?
A.Careless drivers bring about safety risks.
B.The weather conditions are terrible in winter.
C.Children might be late for school.
D.The house-to-house pickup is available.
31.What is the author's attitude towards children walking to bus stops?
A.Doubtful.
B.Cautious.
C.Supportive.
D.Critical.

Many of us would probably say
that lying is a matter of moral choice. But in his philosophy book A History of Lying,Rengel
takes us in a different direction, which he calls "non-moral".
He takes several persuasive steps to redirect us.First,he asks us to take into account how
we represent reality to ourselves, and how we see it in relation to the self. This requires us to
employ awareness of not just the world but also the concepts to describe it to ourselves and
others..Moreover,.“the reality”we believe we see and know might be an illusion(幻觉).So
how do we even know when we're telling the truth, and when we're lying about it?
His second step is to say that our sense of personal identity should be treated with doubt,
since we're frequently wrong about our own experiences. If continuing personal identity might
be an illusion, then the reality we see might be an illusion as well. But we choose to take part
like actors in this illusion.
From here Rengel takes a third step towards what he calls "evolutionary epistemology
识i论)”,which shows everything we claim to know should be evaluated through an evolutionary
angle. For instance,to stay safe from natural enemies or hunt for food, some animals evolve
into being capable of mixing with the surroundings to delude others. The thing is,the species
continues through natural selection processes.Equally,we grow myths to explain the natural
world and our place in it.As individuals and as societies, various forms of lies are built into our
DNA.
The arguments in this book are strongly made, but more than a few of Rengel's viewpoints
need far more evidence as support. But anyhow,in separating the discussion from conventional
morality-based studies of lying,he has produced a lively and distinctive work. But still, there is
one thing to remember-we perhaps will be liars, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask
ourselves when it is acceptable to lie and when it isn't.
32.What can be implied about Rengel's first persuasive step?
A.We can hardly control what we do in real life.
B.We are able to tell illusions from reality.
C.We choose to lie or not in different cases.
D.We tend to see reality in a subjective way.
33.Why does Rengel give the examples in Paragraph 4?
A.To make a comparison.
B.To clarify a concept.
C.To raise a problem.
D.To change a topic.
34.What does the underlined word "delude"in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Surprise.
B.Trick.
C.Amuse.
D.Protect
35.How does the author find the arguments in this book?
A.One-sided but convincing.
B.Conventional but impressive.
C.Poorly-based but novel.
D.Serious but understandable.

When I was seven years
old,my family moved from Mexico to America. In Mexico,I was a cheerful girl who loved
making people laugh with my jokes and inventing fun games to play with my friends. However,
when I arrived in America,I found it hard to fit in,and I became quieter.
We lived in a small house with a modest yard where we grew vegetables -my
responsibility. While I took pride in watching them grow, there were times when I dreamed of
having a beautiful garden like my schoolmate Luella's,with its delicate tulips(郁金香),
Although Luella lived in the same neighborhood as me,we barely knew each other.
It was after a tornado that Luella and I finally became close friends.
The tornado struck on a Sunday afternoon. The gentle breeze transformed into a strong
wind, and thick gray clouds filled the sky.Gradually, the tornado took shape, starting as a thin
rope and growing into a large black funnel ()My entire family gathered in the bathroom,
seeking shelter from the storm.Terrified,I sat close to my mom, knees in my chest. After the
storm had passed, our worries and fears were replaced by relief that we were unharmed and that
our house had remained undamaged.
As I stepped outside,I witnessed the extent of the damage the tornado had caused to our
neighborhood.Across the street,a tall tree had fallen, crushing Luella's garden in front of her
yellow house. We hurried over to check on it.Fortunately, her family seemed to be away at the
time, and no one was injured. However, her once-beautiful garden was in ruins, with the fallen
tree destroying the tulips and debris (H)spread everywhere.I could only imagine how
heartbroken they must feel seeing this.
Then my mom's usual words rang in my ear,"It is more blessed to give than to receive,
and my family started to think about how we could help.

should be evaluated through an evolutionary angle..(从这里Rengel向他所谓的‘进化认识论,

some animals evolve into being capable of mixing with the surroundings(为了躲避天敌或寻
根据最后一段第一句和第二句“The arguments in this book are strongly
made, but more than a few of Rengel's viewpoints need far more evidence as support. But
anyhow,in separating the discussion from conventional morality-based studies of lying,he
has produced a lively and distinctive work.(这本书中的论点是强有力的,但Rengel的许多观

My Reading Story
Reading has always been a significant part of my life.I remember the first time I was
captivated by a book;it was "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone".The magical world
opened my imagination and ignited a lifelong passion for reading.Books have taught me about
different cultures, sparked my creativity, and provided comfort in tough times.
I strongly advocate for reading as a habit.Let us make time in our busy schedules to pick up
a book in the reading corner and immerse ourselves in its world.Let us share our favorite books
with friends and family, discussing and debating the ideas we encounter.
Together, let's cultivate a culture of reading that fosters knowledge, understanding, and
the joy of learning.
第二节
Just at that moment,Luella's family returned in their car.Empathy surged within me as
I saw the shock and disbelief on their faces.I couldn't help but approach Luella, tightly holding
her hands and saying,"I'm so sorry for your loss, but thankfully you're all right."She weakly
nodded at me,still appearing puzzled by the devastating sight. My family volunteered to help
hers clean up the mess, cutting down the branches and removing the fallen trees from the yard.
To uplift Luella's spirits and bring her comfort,I tried my best to cheer her up while tidying the
garden with her, during which my own joyful personality seemed to revive a bit.
Even after the debris was cleared,I could still sense Luella's sorrow for her lost garden.
My heart went out to her, knowing how much she had cherished those tulips that she had
devoted so much energy to.Yet now, they were all gone.Determined to restore the beauty that
once thrived,I suggested that we rebuild the garden.Luella agreed delightedly. With each bulb
carefully planted and watered, the new tulip seedlings once again filled the garden, which
symbolized the sprouting of a new friendship between us,as well as the turning that I finally got
embraced by this new environment. My mom was right:it's more blessed to give than to
receive because when you give, you may receive something unexpected in return.

(Text 10)
M:You've heard the old saying,"A picture is worth a thousand words."Well,a campus visit
is worth a thousand brochures.Nothing beats walking around a campus to get a feel for it.
Some students report that all they needed to know that they loved or hated a campus was to
drive through it.Then there is the true story of the guy who applied to a school because it
had a famous name.Got accepted.Didn't visit, and when he arrived to move into the
dorms, discovered to his horror it was an all-male school.A visit would have taken care of
that problem.
The best time to experience the college environment is during the spring of your junior year
or the fall of your senior year.Although you may have more time to make college visits
during your summer time off, your observation will be more accurate when you can see the
campus in full swing.Open houses are a good idea and provide you with opportunities to talk
to students, faculty members, and administrators.Write or call in advance to take student-
conducted campus tours.

根据第四段的“He was the author of Tian Gong Kai Wu,an encyclopedia
that covered a wide variety of technical subjects. As Joseph Needham has observed, the vast
amount of accurately drawn illustrations in this encyclopedia dwarfed the amount provided in
previous Chinese encyclopedias, making it a valuable written work in the history of Chinese
literature.Tian Gong Kai Wu records all aspects of technology up to the mid-Ming period.
The book constitutes a complete system of science and technology, and provides a systematic
summary of ancient Chinese technology, the experience accumulated by China in agriculture,

wondering how these birds avoid getting headaches or brain damage(当你看到这些鸟有坚硬
