Tetris (俄罗斯方块) is one of the most popular video games of all time. Have you ever wondered who invented it? The game was created by a computer engineer named Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. He was inspired (启发) by his favorite board game Pentomino and he invented the game just for fun.
The game became popular almost as soon as it hit the market. The Tetris Company was set up in 1996. As a basic computer game, Tetris quickly spread to other platforms. It was one of the most often played games on Nintendo’s Game Boy.
Tetris was also the first video game played in space. In 1993, Aleksandr Serebrov played the game on his Game Boy while he was in space. Since then, it has been one of the most popular games among kids and adults.
Tetris may be quite fun. (a) In a study, kids played Tetris for about 30 minutes daily over the course of three months. (b) The game has also been used to help treat PTSD (创伤后应激障碍) patients. (c) This led to growth in parts of their brains. (d) But it’s also been shown to have an active influence on the brain.
However, some people have a difficult time putting the game down. They spend so much time playing Tetris that they see Tetriminos falling in their dreams. Some even start to see things that are not really there. This is called the “Tetris Effect”. Since playing it has certain side effects (反作用), just make sure you play only when your parents know it!

Do you ever get that feeling that there aren’t enough hours in the day? But then, you step outside into the countryside and everything seems slower. It’s not just you—recent research showed nature can regulate our sense of time.
For many of us, life is busy with work, home, and family, making us feel like we never have enough time. This time problem has become more serious as digital (数码的) technologies became more popular. But recent research shows that nature might be the solution to our time problems. A psychologist (心理学家) named Richardo Correia from the University of Turku in Finland found that being in nature can change how we feel about time and even make us feel like we have more time.
Correia studied how people feel about time when they do different tasks (任务) in the city and in nature. He found that people always feel time goes more slowly in nature compared to the city. For example, people are more likely to think a walk in the countryside as longer than a walk in the city. Similarly, doing tasks in green environments make people feel time passes more slowly. Nature seems to slow down our sense of time.
Why does nature influence our sense of time? The way we experience time is shaped by our brain and the events going on in the world around us. As a result, feelings such as stress, worries and fear can distort (弄变形) our sense of the passage of time. The relaxing influence of natural environments may lower stress, resulting in a more stable (稳定的) experience of time.
23.What does the underlined word “regulate” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Require. B.Win. C.Control. D.Admire.
24.What makes time problems more serious?
A.The natural world. B.Digital technologies.
C.The air pollution. D.People’s sense of time.
25.How does the writer organize Paragraph 3?
A.By giving examples. B.By giving reasons.
C.By listing numbers. D.By asking questions.
26.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Why not be in nature? B.How can we use the time?
C.Where should we live? D.What makes you stressed?
【答案】23.C 24.B 25.A 26.A
【导语】本文是一篇科普类文章,讨论了现代人普遍感到时间不够用的问题,并引用研究指出自然环境可以调节人们对时间的感知,使人感觉时间流逝变慢,从而鼓励人们接触自然。
23.词句猜测题。根据文章第一段“But then, you step outside into the countryside and everything seems slower. It’s not just you—recent research showed nature can regulate our sense of time.”可知,自然可以“调节”我们对时间的感知,使其变慢。在选项中,“Control”意为控制、调节,与“regulate”意思相近。故选C。
24.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“This time problem has become more serious as digital (数码的) technologies became more popular.”可知,随着数字技术的普及,时间问题变得更加严重。故选B。

Making a Difference in Your Community
Helping others doesn’t always need big actions. Sometimes, even the smallest efforts can make a big difference. Two teenagers, Jason and Emma, recently shared how they’ve worked to improve their community. Let’s hear about their experiences and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
◆ Can you introduce what you’ve done for your community?
Jason: 31 In my program, kids from my neighborhood can borrow sports things for free.
Emma: I worked with a group to repaint the playground in our local park and make it more colorful for kids.
◆ 32
Jason: I noticed that many kids in my neighborhood don’t have enough money to buy sports things. So, I thought if I could lend them the sports things, maybe they would start to love sports and stay active.
Emma: It all started when I saw the walls in the playground were broken, and the floor was always dirty and grey. “Why not make the place better for everyone?” I got together with some friends, and we came up with a plan to repaint and fix it up.
◆ What was your favorite part of this experience?
Jason: Honestly, my favorite part has been seeing the kids enjoy sports together. Often, I see a kid out there using the sports things. 33
Emma: I loved working with my friends to make the playground livelier. We spent hours painting. We were all so proud of the result. 34 Even when we were tired, we kept going because we knew the kids would love it. It’s amazing to see how happy they are now.
◆ Any advice for people who want to help their community?
Jason: Start with something small but meaningful.
Emma: Don’t wait for others to take action—you can be the one to start.
A.What made you want to start this project?
B.I feel like I have done something meaningful.

C. Who did you work with?
