一、阅读(共8小题;每小题5分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

When Rony Rolando Herrera was a young boy,he was abandoned by his father, and his mother
gave everything she had to raise Rony and his three brothers.Thankfully,Rony's support did not end
with his mother.Through a nonprofit,Rony took part in a child protection program that redetermined his
life path. Now,Rony is dedicated to doing the same for the children in his school.
Rony is a science teacher and director of a primary school in San Jose del Cacao,a rural community
where hardship, tradition and poverty prevent education from being a priority."The customs of these
communities are from past civilizations and focus on working the land, not developing psychologically or
intellectually,"Rony explained.
The barriers to education are most harmful to the most vulnerable ()including young girls.
As a teacher,it was not uncommon to see his female students,as young as 13 years old, drop out of
school."They are not empowered to know their rights or to continue with their education. They don't
know that they can change the failed system in their communities that believe women's only purpose is to
reproduce,do washing and cook,"Rony said.
By joining in the program PREVENIR,students at Rony's school are given the opportunity to
receive a more comprehensive education that aims to reduce the risks outside of the classroom.Rony
explained,"The educational process must be comprehensive. In addition to learning about things like
science or biology, children need to know their rights and basic life skills.
Rony calls himself a "dreamer"and now carries the love he received from both his mother and the
humanitarian workers who supported him.He stated,"This type of support changes lives."And he
added that even if out of 140 students, only one is impacted,he knows this impact will carry over to
future generations, just as it did for him.

People may form inaccurate impressions about us from our social media posts, finds new Cornell
University research that is the first to examine perceptions ()of our personalities based on online
posts.
An analysis of online status updates found great difference between how viewers saw the authors
across a range of personality traits ()and the authors'self-perceptions.Viewers rated the Internet
users as having lower self-respect and being more self-revealing than the users rated themselves.Status
updates containing photos, videos or links in addition to text facilitated more accurate assessments than
those with just text, the researchers found.Overall, the study illustrates the dynamic process by which a
cyber audience tries to make sense of who we are from isolated fragments (H)of shared information,
jointly constructing our digital identity.
"The impression people form about us on social media based on what we post can differ from the
way we view ourselves,"said Qi Wang, professor of psychology and director of the Culture Cognition
Lab."A mismatch between who we are and how people perceive us could influence our ability to feel
connected online and the benefits of engaging in social media interaction."
The Cornell researchers believe their study is the first to investigate audience perceptions of social
media users through their posts. On platforms, users often share fragmentary personal narratives while
interacting with "friends"they may know only a little or sometimes not at all.
Wang said the findings could help developers design interfaces that allow people to express
themselves most authentically."If people's view of us is very different from who we actually are,or how
we would like to be perceived,"Wang said,"it could harm our social life and well-being."
5.What may your online posts lead to according to the research?
A.Dynamic digital identity.
B.Limited social perceptions.
C.Less social media interaction.
D.Viewers'misjudgment of you.
6.Which of the following will least reveal your personality?
A.A link with text.
B.A plain text post.
C.A pure video post.
D.A text post with photos.
7.Why is a viewer's perception of an author different from the author's own?
A.The author facilitates status updates.
B.The author constructs the personal traits.
C.The viewer rates the frequency of the posts.
D.The viewer assesses partial shared information.
8.What does Wang think of the result of the research?
A.Useful.
B.Harmful.
C.Unpractical.
D.Meaningless.

Sweating may not be your favorite thing to do,but it is a necessary process for maintaining the
health of the human body.9 Here are four research-backed reasons why this salt-based fluid can
benefit you.

Sweating is good for your skin.
Sweat is known to cool the skin, bringing toxins (to the surface and giving the skin a healthy
appearance.Research shows that sweating can increase and maintain skin hydration. However, leaving
sweat on the skin for too long can cause skin diseases such as acne.10
Sweating makes you happy.
When you are hot, your heart beats faster to cool the body, releasing endorphins that cause feelings
of joy.11 In a recent study, people who smelled "joyful sweat"displayed tendencies associated
with happiness. However, those exposed to fear-caused sweat showed characteristics of terror.
Sweating supports your heart.
When sitting in a sauna(桑拿浴),your body temperature rises,so your body works overtime to
cool itself down by sweating.12 A 20-year Finnish study found that people who sweated it out
regularly in a sauna had a lower rate of sudden cardiac(心脏的)deaths.
13
If you sweat heavily during exercise, that's usually a positive sign.Athletes tend to sweat sooner
and more than inactive people.Their bodies have learned to cool down more efficiently during physical
activity.A study conducted by the Public Library of Science supports this, showing that long-distance
runners not only got sweatier sooner, but also activated more sweat glands, resulting in more sweat than
their non-active counterparts.
A.And you'll be better off for it.
B.Sweating a lot means that you are fit.
C.Thus,it's essential to wash your face and body after sweating
D.Sweat is the stuff that floods out when our body temperature rises.
E.Sweating contributes to a decrease in blood pressure to some extent.
F.Your sweaty self can also make those around you feel more delightful.
G.This is a natural bodily function that helps to regulate body temperature and prevent overheating.
