To preserve these cultural treasures, our school is launching the “ICH Mini-Classroom” campaign, inviting you to create short videos with English narration to showcase China’s ICH. Videos should be 3-5 minutes long, featuring specific ICH items like traditional music, crafts, or festivals. Please ensure clear English explanations, subtitles, and high-quality visuals. Submit your entries via the school website by March 20th. This is more than a competition—it’s a chance to become cultural ambassadors. Let’s bridge past and present, East and West, with creativity and passion! Li Mei devoted herself to preparing for the presentation. She chose sweet dumplings, a traditional dish for Lantern Festival. Her mother taught her to make them — kneading glutinous rice flour, wrapping black sesame filling, and shaping small round balls. Li Mei also searched materials online, made a poster with pictures of sweet dumplings and Lantern Festival scenes, and wrote notes about their meaning: reunion and good wishes. She practiced introducing the dish repeatedly, adjusting her pronunciation to make it clear for classmates. The presentation day finally arrived. When Li Mei showed sweet dumplings and the poster, classmates were curious. She explained their connection with Lantern Festival, how families gather to eat them. After her speech, Pierre raised his hand, saying he once saw such dumplings in a festival event and wanted to taste. Li Mei shared her sweet dumplings, and everyone praised their taste. Many classmates said they learned about Chinese food culture. Li Mei felt proud, realizing her favorite food could bridge cultures and she no longer needed to hide her love for Chinese dishes. 1.What is Karen going to do this Saturday? It was built 2,000 years ago beside the sea and people used to watch plays there in the open air. There used to be an old fishing village nearby. After that, we had a guided tour. Rather than go to the old palace, which is full of tourists, our guide took us up a hill and showed us around what’s left of a library. Most of it had fallen down, but it still had a fantastic atmosphere. We then took a bus into the countryside for lunch, and we ate next to a waterfall. Afterwards, we took a walk from there to a lake. In the afternoon, we chose to go on one of two different factory tours. One factory made pots and plates, which sounded dull to me, and one produced carpets. That was the one we went on. There were lots of traditional designs, all made by local people. It was amazing. That was the last thing we did that day. A When the summer sun blazes down on bustling cities, you may dream of a refreshing escape surrounded by nature. Sitting at around 3,300 meters above sea level, the park enjoys cool temperatures throughout the summer, making it an ideal destination to chill out while exploring stunning Tibetan-influenced landscapes.(它位于风景优美的云南省香格里拉地区,拥有高海拔的草地,让人心旷神怡。 故选A项。 B In 1996, Marja-Liisa Olthuis, a linguist, faced a personal dilemma: whether to speak to her newborn daughter, Sofia, in Finnish or in her endangered native language, Inari Sámi. With only a few hundred speakers left and few chances for the next generation to learn it, she decided,“I will speak to Sofia in Inari Sámi.” That choice helped spark (引发) a long-term effort to revive a language close to disappearing. By the 1990s, Inari Sámi had very few young speakers. “In 1986, only four children spoke Inari Sámi,” Olthuis recalls. Hope began to grow when the Inari Sámi Association opened Finland’s first “language nest” kindergarten in 1997. But with so few teachers available, the expansion was difficult. It became clear that adults needed to learn the language as well. In 2007, Olthuis became the first person to earn a PhD in Inari Sámi. Instead of stopping there, she created a new language education program called Supplementary Aanaar Saami Language Education (CASLE). Its goal was to train non- native professionals who were committed to using the language every day and teaching it after completing the program. The program brought visible progress. Thanks to CASLE graduates, two more language nests opened, creating a more stable base of young speakers. “Not long ago, we didn’t have speakers; now we even have foreigners coming to us to learn,” says Olthuis. Today, she estimates that around 500 people can speak Inari Sámi, and the number is still rising. In 2013, she published a book to share the methods behind this recovery effort with indigenous communities around the world. “We don’t worry about losing Inari Sámi anymore,” says Olthuis. “We now have voices on the radio and in the media. We won’t lose it, because my friends and I work for it.” 24.Why did Olthuis choose to speak Inari Sámi to her daughter? A.Her daughter preferred it. B.It was easier than Finnish. C.It was at risk of extinction. D.She disliked other languages. 25.What made expanding the first “language nest” kindergarten difficult? A.Insufficient funds. B.A lack of teachers. C.No teaching materials. D.Few interested children. 26.What does the text suggest about Inari Sámi today? A.It is no longer spoken. B.It is still rapidly declining. C.It is only used in ceremonies. D.It is showing signs of recovery. 27.Which can be the best title for the text? A.A Language Passed Down. B.Childhood Education in Finland. C.Saving Inari Sámi from Disappearing. D.Challenges of Learning minority Languages. 根据第一段中“With only a few hundred speakers left and few chances for the next generation to learn it, she decided, ‘I will speak to Sofia in Inari Sámi.’(这种语言当时只剩下几百名使用者,且下一代几乎没有学习它的机会,于是她决定:‘我要用伊纳里萨米语和索菲亚说话。’)” 根据第二段中“But with so few teachers available, the expansion was difficult.(但由于可用的教师数量极少,扩展工作举步维艰。)” 根据第四段中“Today, she estimates that around 500 people can speak Inari Sámi, and the number is still rising.(如今,她估计大约有500人会说伊纳里萨米语,而且这个数字还在持续上升。)” 根据全文内容,尤其是第一段中“That choice helped spark a long-term effort to revive a language close to disappearing.(这个决定促成了一场旨在复兴这种濒临消失的语言的长期行动)”和最后一段中“We don’t worry about losing Inari Sámi anymore(我们再也不用担心伊纳里萨米语会消失了)”可知,全文围绕拯救伊纳里萨米语免于消亡展开。因此“Saving Inari Sámi from Disappearing(拯救伊纳里萨米语免于消失)”是最适合的标题。故选C。 C Picture a robot. What do you see? A metal machine built to last forever? Unfortunately, this very quality now threatens to drown the planet in extremely durable (持久的) e-waste. What if, instead, those machines were designed to break down and disappear — like life does? In a new study, researchers crafted a robotic arm, and a controller to operate it, from pork gelatin and plant cellulose — materials strong enough to function yet delicate enough to degrade (降解) in the soil. After testing, both structures broke down in soil within weeks. Biodegradable robotics often falls under the umbrella of soft robotics. The field originated from materials science and chemistry rather than conventional robots that come from mechanical engineering. But a lot of early soft robots still relied on chemical materials that continue to exist as pollution. Pingdong Wei, a materials scientist at Westlake University in Hangzhou, teamed up with his friend Zhuang Zhang, a robotics engineer now at Fudan University in Shanghai, to assemble (组装) robots for the study. They started with cellulose layers from cotton, then added glycerol for flexibility and dried the layers for strength. “Cellulose is also cheap and easy to assemble,” Wei says. To build sensors, the researchers used a conductive gelatin from pork. They then folded the layers and sensors into 3D structures. Wei and Zhang found the controller and robotic arm stood up to both heavy use and a week of inactivity. Finally, they buried them both in a 20-centimeter-deep hole near their campus. Within eight weeks the machines were almost entirely gone. Wei and Zhang envision robots that can handle dangerous waste and then disappear. They also propose robots that aid surgeries and then safely break down inside the body. But it’s important to note that the technology is in very early stages. “If we truly want to have a sustainable robot that goes outside in nature,” a materials scientist Florian Hartmann says, “we also need to think of electronics or power supplies, or even batteries, that are biodegradable.” 28.What do we know about early soft robots? A.They are made of natural materials. B.They are too delicate for heavy use. C.They will produce e-waste pollution. D.They come from mechanical engineering. 29.Why did Wei and Zhang bury the controller and robotic arm? A.To see if they can work in soil B.To check if they can stay inactive. C.To test if they can break down. D.To assess if they can handle waste. 30.Which of the following best describes the robots in the new study? A.Safe to operate. B.Easy to degrade. C.Costly to produce. D.Complex to assemble. 31.What does Hartmann mainly talk about in the last paragraph? A.The necessity for sustainable robots. B.The potential applications of soft robots. C.The possibility of improving power supplies. D.The suggestions for future soft robot research. 根据第二段“a lot of early soft robots still relied on chemical materials that continue to exist as pollution (许多早期的软机器人仍依赖会长期残留并造成污染的材料)”可知,早期软机器人会产生电子垃圾污染。故选C项。 29. 根据第四段“they buried them both in a 20-centimeter-deep hole near their campus. Within eight weeks the machines were almost entirely gone 根据第一段“materials strong enough to function yet delicate enough to degrade (降解) in the soil. After testing, both structures broke down in soil within weeks 根据最后一段“we also need to think of electronics or power supplies, or even batteries, that are biodegradable (我们还需要考虑可生物降解的电子元件、电源,甚至电池)”可知,他主要提出了未来软机器人研究的建议——需配套可生物降解的电子元件、电源等。故选D项。 D Have you ever dreamed of seeing in the dark without high-tech glasses? In May 2025, a research team from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) turned this dream into a real product — a pair of contact lenses (镜片) that give you night vision. Human eyes can only see “visible light” with wavelengths between 400–700 nanometres. Light longer than 800 nanometres is called infrared light (红外线), which our eyes cannot detect. The new lenses are made of the same soft plastic used in common contact lenses, but they contain special nanoparticles (纳米颗粒) only 45 nanometres across. These nanoparticles are made of gold and rare metals. When infrared light hits them, they transform the invisible light into visible colours such as red, green or blue, which enables infrared light to be a language our eyes can understand. The team first put the lenses on mice. In a dark box, the animals could clearly avoid areas lit by infrared LEDs, showing they “felt” the light. Brain scans also proved that their visual cortex was active. Volunteers then wore the lenses in a dark room. They could detect flashing infrared signals and even tell the direction of the light source. Interestingly, the lenses worked better when the eyes were closed, because infrared light can flash through eyelids more easily than visible light. At present the lenses can only pick up strong infrared light, such as that from LEDs. Pictures look blurry because the nanoparticles scatter light. The team is now trying to sharpen the image and make the lenses sensitive to weaker infrared rays, like the heat given off by a human body. With further development, these battery-free, paper-thin lenses may truly give ordinary people “superhuman” sight. Soldiers and firefighters could move safely at night without bulky glasses; surgeons might see infrared markers inside the body directly; drivers may one day read infrared road signs in fog. Colour-blind users could even experience new colours by changing the nanoparticles. 32.The nanoparticles inside the lenses are mainly used to  ________. A.protect the eye from bright light B.make the lenses softer and cheaper C.shift infrared light into visible colours D.program soft plastic into a certain language 33.The lenses performed better with closed eyes because ________. A.eyelids block infrared light less than visible light B.volunteers felt more relaxed in complete darkness C.closing eyes increases the speed of nanoparticles D.brain scans work only when the eyes are closed 34.How does the author mainly introduce the new invention? A.By analyzing the cause and effect. B.By interviewing the research team. C.By listing numbers without comments. D.By giving examples and explanations. 35.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To advertise a new brand of nanoparticles. B.To explain how night-vision lenses work and their future. C.To compare different night-vision devices used in daily life. D.To warn readers about the possible dangers of nanoparticles. 根据第二段中“These nanoparticles are made of gold and rare metals. When infrared light hits them, they transform the invisible light into visible colours such as red, green or blue, which enables infrared light to be a language our eyes can understand. 根据第三段中“Interestingly, the lenses worked better when the eyes were closed, because infrared light can flash through eyelids more easily than visible light. 故选A项。 34. 根据第二段中“When infrared light hits them, they transform the invisible light into visible colours such as red, green or blue, which enables infrared light to be a language our eyes can understand.(当红外线照射到它们时,它们会将不可见的光转化为可见的颜色,如红色、绿色或蓝色,这使得红外线成为我们眼睛能够理解的语言。)”可知,作者解释了隐形眼镜的工作原理;根据第三段中“The team first put the lenses on mice. So her mother decided to move to Paris and asked Li Mei if she was willing to go with them. Despite having to leave her familiar surroundings, Li Mei didn’t want to be separated from her parents. One month ago, the whole family relocated to the 13th arrondissement (区) of Paris, and Li Mei successfully enrolled in a local high school. Li Mei started her high school journey in the vibrant city of Paris. While she was eager to immerse herself in the new culture, some aspects of adapting proved to be more challenging than she had pictured in mind, especially when it came to something as personal as food. While her French classmates ate salads, Li Mei took out a package of steamed rice. During her school days, her lunch became a daily struggle. One Monday, one boy Pierre pointed at her lunch and whispered, “That looks strange.” Li Mei blushed and quietly ran out. Over the following days, she refused the Chinese dishes her mother prepared and only bought sandwiches for lunch. Although she no longer received strange looks at school, she felt a little bit ashamed hiding what she truly liked. Everything changed when her history teacher, Mr. Dupont, launched a project “Food & Culture Week”. Each student was to prepare a traditional dish and present its cultural significance. Li Mei hesitated — would anyone care about Chinese food here? But she really wanted to have a try. After much thought and careful selection, she decided to go with a food item related to traditional Chinese festivals, as festivals always seem attractive. Moreover, since some traditional Chinese festivals have gained a certain degree of popularity in France, this would make it easier for her classmates to understand and accept the dish she planned to prepare. She returned home and shared the wonderful news with her parents. Li Mei devoted herself to preparing for the presentation. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The presentation day finally arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Li Mei devoted herself to preparing for the presentation. 词汇激活 行为类 ①全身心投入:devote herself to/dedicate herself to/commit herself to ②反复练习:practice repeatedly/rehearse over and over again ③称赞:praise/speak highly of/acclaim 情绪类 ①好奇的:curious/inquisitive ②感到自豪:feel proud/feel a sense of pride 【点睛】【高分句型1】She explained their connection with Lantern Festival, how families gather to eat them. B In 1996, Marja-Liisa Olthuis, a linguist, faced a personal dilemma: whether to speak to her newborn daughter, Sofia, in Finnish or in her endangered native language, Inari Sámi. C Picture a robot. D Have you ever dreamed of seeing in the dark without high-tech glasses? Travelling and seeing the world provides a huge range of benefits and there are so many different types of trips and experiences you can go on. 36 Here are 4 reasons why we should travel and see the world. I’d been in relationships since 18, so I feared the 41 of being alone. To pull myself out of this low mood, I booked a solo trip to China — a country I’d long 42 to visit. In Beijing, I felt nervous meeting the tour group. Without Peter’s help, I had to 43 all social interactions alone. Our first stop was the Great Wall. I chose to take the chairlift, but I grew 44 as I struggled to hold my thick jacket. Just then, seeing a tourist hand hers to her partner, I missed marriage’s 45 but told myself to keep going.   Later in Xi’an, after the crowded Terracotta Army, I worked up the courage to 46 alone to Huan cheng Park. There, elderly women’s dancing filled me with 47 — it was totally different from my strict culture. In Yangshuo, I faced my biggest 48 yet: a three-hour bike ride along the Li River. I’d had a bad crash before and always relied on Peter to keep me safe on roads. But this time, I focused hard and 49 the ride safely. Later, I passed a courtyard where women were dancing to folk music. Getting up courage, I 50 them. As I moved to the 51 , I realized this trip made me see that 52 isn’t just about big acts; it’s also about exploring alone or feeling 53 in my own company. It emphasizes respect, modesty and harmony, passed down through 56 (generation). Greeting is the first step in traditional communication. Unlike Western casual greetings, Chinese ones often care about others’ lives, such as “Have you had your meal?” This is not a real question but a warm way 57 (show) concern. When meeting elders or superiors, people usually greet with a slight bow to express respect, which 58 (be) a basic etiquette in Chinese culture. Gift-giving is another key part of traditional communication, especially on festivals or important occasions. Gift choices should match relationships and occasions. For example, red envelopes are popular during the Spring Festival, as red 59 (symbolize) good luck and prosperity. However, giving pears as gifts is impolite, for the pronunciation of “pear” in Chinese resembles “separation”, 60 people avoid it. Polite language plays a vital role in daily communication. Words like “please”, “thank you” and “sorry”  are widely used. When refusing others’ kindness, people usually thank first and then explain gently instead of refusing directly. This helps avoid 61 (hurt) others’ feelings and maintain good relationships. Banquet etiquette also reflects traditional communication culture. When dining together, the seat facing the door is for the most respected person. Younger people should serve elders first and wait for them to start eating 62 they begin. During meals, people often toast to show gratitude, clinking glasses lower than elders’ to show 63 (humble). Today, this traditional culture still influences Chinese people’s lives. We should learn and inherit these excellent traditions, using them 64 (proper) in modern communication. In this way, we can promote mutual understanding and let the charm of Chinese traditional communication culture shine 65 the world. Dear fellow students, _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Student Union Half a year ago, Li Mei’s father received a notice from his company stating that he needed to work in Paris for two years. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2 / 13 1 / 13 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
