How to release your art potential?Traditionally, people may bury themselves in leaming painting
skills at a studio and begin from drawing lines. However,Maggie Wiebe,a 21-year-old girl from Stamps
School of Art Design at the University of Michigan, has her own method.
Wiebe and her school friend Jessie Rice are trying to do something that shows their love for art and
also benefits the environment. For the past year or so,they have tended a garden at their campus farm,
planting a variety of colorful flowers,as well as flax (to make linen and paper to be used in art.
Inspired by a group of old ladies in Canada who plant sustainable art materials and post their videos on
social platform YouTube,Wiebe learned about how to plant, harvest and separate fibers. She planted
different fruits and vegetables traditionally used to dye (fabrics. She then put their peels
(into boiled water and added hot pressurized air to make a dye.For her,it's a demanding but
enjoyable process.
Wiebe and Rice plan to eventually buy some land in Detroit to grow these sustainable art materials-
a dye, fiber and pigment garden-"a bigger version of what we're already doing,"Wiebe told Minnesota
News."We'd set it up like an organization where artists can volunteer a few hours a week and then use all
of the plants that we grow.
Wiebe also likes fiber-based art, such as quilting, weaving and sewing. She has applied those
techniques to her recent works, displayed as part of the annual Senior Exhibition at her school.During her
sophomore year,Wiebe joined the Michigan Daily as an illustrator, learning to conceptualize and complete
complex illustrations on tight deadlines.Wiebe's works received a lot of help from others."Because the art
school doesn't have departments,we have studio coordinators who take care of each studio,"she said."I
see them every day,and they've helped me a lot.

In a world of ever-present technology, few can agree on how much time children need on their
devices. Some suggest kids should spend more time outside instead. For kids in Colorado,a new
cooperation has found a way to get kids outside, even if they bring their phones.
I'm standing nearby the Dinosaur Hill in Fruita,Colorado. Before I hike, words appear on my phone,
"Your adventure is about to begin."Scrolling down,I select a mission titled "Discover Dinosaurs".A
dinosaur avatar(虚拟化身)appears on the screen..“Hello,m Agent AI and inviting you to discover
dinosaurs and help the Bureau of Land Management preserve fossils.
All over the state, the Colorado Explorer Campaign offers similar missions for young park visitors to
complete. The Discover Dinosaurs mission is meant to educate young explorers on the basics of
paleontology (and how to preserve fossils. The Agents of Discovery app is generally defined as
an interactive experience combining real world input with digitally-accessed content.
But what's the trouble for this activity? In order for the app to work as intended, families have to
actually visit the sites their kids want to explore. There is no completing missions from the comfort of your
couch.
In fact, with the wide use of gamification(游戏化),the cooperation between technology and
education grows.Recent studies have found gamification design fully reflects the active status of students in
the learning process, which can emphasize the cultivation of students'independent exploration spirit, form
a good habit of learning and thus promote the overall quality of students.
The Colorado Explorer Campaign works without Wi-Fi but best with cell service, and is offered for
free.Through the Agents of Discovery app, users can identify trees, learn the migratory habits of birds,
engage in local history and maybe even find evidence of dinosaurs. This summer,it's certain that there are
more families who take brief road trips and hometown hikes to see what else the program has in store.
28.Why did the author mention his experience to the Dinosaur Hill?
A.To advise people to go outdoors.
B.To tell his love for dinosaurs.
C.To disconnect him from digital device.
D.To test the new method of enjoying outdoors with phones.
29.What should kids'parents do to make the Agents of Discovery app work smoothly?
A.Visit their favorite sites.
B.Know their interest in exploration.
C.Get involved in the activity personally.
D.Lie on their couches to monitor their kids.
30.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Wi-Fi is necessary for the app to work.
B.Families should hike in their hometown together.
C.The Agents of Discovery app highlights historical culture.
D.The Colorado Explorer Campaign is of great value for exploring nature.
31.What would be the best title for the text?
A.More and More Children Are Addicted to Phones
B.An Approach Mixes Outdoor Activities with Phones
C.Colorado Handles Kids'Phone Problems Successfully
D.Gamification Has Enjoyed Great Support Among Kids
D
When children are growing up,what they see in their families is what they tend to consider normal.
That means family traditions and other activities are generally seen as just normal. If a family eats dinner
三一轮复习单元检测卷十一
英语(人教版)第4页(共8页)
together or spends time talking with each other, that's what the child absorbs and internalizes ()
Our family traditions are declining as we move towards a more isolated (society. How many
families no longer share meals around the dinner table, instead choosing to watch TV or text friends on
their phones? This tends to isolate and disconnect family members from each other. It also stops families
from communicating and catching up on each other's lives.
For those of us who grew up in a household where families shared meals together and spent time
talking with each other, chances are that we are passing along those traditions to our own families. The
problem is,children today often want to spend their time in front of screens rather than people.
Cellphones, computers and other attention-grabbing devices often mean parents get resistance to traditional
family togetherness time. This pressure can be the trigger for parents giving in and letting children do what
they want rather than fight with them over sitting at the dinner table. This creates a new normal that no
longer values the idea of families and the society at large, connecting with each other.
Family and community traditions are important, not just for the current shared experiences, but for the
future as well.Since children internalize their experiences, that means generations to come may not know
what it's like to sit together around the dinner table and truly connect as a family.
That is why it is so important that parents and caregivers create boundaries of behavior that help to
keep family traditions alive. If you remember the shared experiences you had with your parents and
grandparents, you know the important bonding that took place during those times. It is this shared
experience that brings people closer together and is well worth preserving.
32.What is the phenomenon the author describes at the beginning of the text?
A.Increased use of technology replaces traditional family interactions.
B.The increase in shared family meals means a shift towards isolation.
C.More and more children prefer to spend quality time with the family.
D.Family members are more likely to share their updates with each other.
33.What does the underlined word "trigger"in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Effect.
B.Cause.
C.Direction.
D.Tendency.
34.What can be inferred about future generations if current trends continue?
A.They will be more addicted to advanced technology.
B.They will maintain stronger and closer family bonds.
C.They may not understand the value of family gatherings.
D.They may create new and irreplaceable family traditions.
35.How does the author view the role of parents in preserving family traditions?
A.Insignificant.
B.Irresponsible.
C.Overemphasized.
D.Crucial.

to become a successful man.Can you tell me some ways to be successful?"
Seeing Jack's innocent eyes, the grandfather nodded. However, without saying anything,he took Jack
to a nearby nursery. From the nursery, his grandpa bought two small plants and came back home. Then he
planted one plant in a pot and kept it inside the house and planted the other outside the house. After
finishing planting,he asked Jack,"Which of these two plants do you think will grow better in the future?"
Jack kept thinking for some time and then said,"That plant inside the house will grow better because
it is safe from every danger while the plant outside is at risk of many things like strong sunlight, storms,
animals and so on."
The grandfather smiled and said,"Let's see what will happen in the future."After that,Jack left
with his parents.Four years later,Jack came back to visit his grandfather again.Upon seeing his
grandfather,Jack said,"Grandpa, last time I asked you some ways to be successful, but you did not tell
me anything. This time you have to tell me.
The grandfather smiled and said,"Sure, but first, let's take a look at the plants that we bought a few
years ago..”
Saying this,he took Jack to the place where he had planted the small plant in a pot.Jack found the
plant had tured into a tree. Then the grandfather took Jack to look at the plant which they had planted
