The guests will stay here for five days in total. They will spend three days working and then they will have two days to explore our city. I’d like you to make a two-day travel plan for our guests, so that they get to see the best of what our city has to offer.
I’d like you to work in groups to think about what kinds of things the guests might like to do. For example, they might want to visit our city museum to learn more about our long history. They might want to buy some souvenirs to remind them of their trip here. They might want to have a lunch or dinner at a local restaurant.Think

2. Why are these tourist attractions included in the travel plan?
These tourist attractions are representative of different aspects of Shanghai. For example, we can enjoy beautiful scenery in Yu Garden, experience the elegant lifestyle in Xuhui District, gain a glimpse of the Buddhist culture at Jing’an Temple, buy some souvenirs in Nanjing Road, learn more about history in Shanghai Museum and appreciate classical art in Shanghai Grand Theatre.
Reading
3. How can you improve this travel plan?
We can add the suggested tour time and ticket price for each destination. And we can also reduce the number of attractions, as the two-day schedule seems tight.

Dear Guests,
Welcome to Xi’an! I hope you have a smooth journey to China. My teacher Ms Xie, some classmates and I have arranged a two-day travel plan to show you around Xi’an after you finish your work.
Xi’an is an ancient city rich in history. In fact, it is one of the oldest cities in China and the oldest of the four great ancient capitals. The former name of Xi’an is Chang’an, which means “everlasting peace”. As you can imagine, there is a lot to do and see in this beautiful old city.
Writing
Following our travel plan, on the first day we would like to show you the main attraction in Xi’an. It is the Terracotta Army in the tomb of the first emperor of a united China. Dating back to the Qin Dynasty, the tomb is a world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. This tomb includes thousands of life-size terracotta soldiers, chariots and horses. After the tomb visit, we will enjoy a lunch of local food like flatbread in mutton soup at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, we will head to the Textile Town and an art district, where we can see some local artists at work. Perhaps you might find a piece of art as a souvenir there. For the evening, we will go to the renowned food and shopping street in the city, where we

will try some famous Xi’an dishes such as hot and sour dumplings and biangbiang noodles.
On the second day, we are going to take you on a tour around more historic sights of Xi’an. We will view the magnificent ancient city wall which surrounds the city centre and then make our way to the famous Bell Tower and Drum Tower. Then we will have lunch, and after that, we plan to head to the legendary Big Wild Goose Pagoda for a temple tour. The evening will include a very satisfying dinner of delicious local dishes for you to enjoy while you watch a traditional style of Chinese opera called Qinqiang Opera.

Dear Peter,
I’m glad that you are coming to Beijing for your winter vacation. I’d like to make a travel plan for you.
I think the best time to experience Chinese customs is the Spring Festival, which falls on February 17 in 2025. Therefore, you can arrange your trip in February. If you want to know how we Chinese celebrate the Spring Festival, I advise you to live with a local family in Beijing Hutong. And you can’t miss Peking opera, which is an important part of Chinese culture and attractive for most travelers to Beijing. Apart from Chinese culture, there are many places of interest in Beijing and you will find it worthwhile to visit them, such as the Palace Museum, the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. In addition, I recommend you to invite a friend who can speak Chinese fluently to travel with you.
Hope you will have a good time in Beijing. Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
Dear Peter,
I heard from you yesterday and have known that you are interested in the history and culture of China and plan to visit China. I would like to give some suggestions about your travelling to China.
I think Beijing is the best place to know about the history and culture of China because it is the center of culture and history. You can visit the Great Wall, which has a history of 5,000 years. You can also visit the Summer Palace for the reason that you will see the Chinese unique architecture. Most importantly, I suggest that you should pay a visit to the Forbidden City, where you will learn more about the history of China.
I hope you will have a relaxing time while staying in China. If you have any other plans, you can tell me.
Yours,
Li Hua
Thank you
for your listening
