One possible version:
Hearing their words, Tod and I felt ashamed and reflected on what we did. Our tomatoes were big, but we didn’t work hard for them. “Winning doesn’t feel good now,” I said. “The group in Class 5 worked so hard every day. They followed the rules, but they didn’t win. We didn’t follow the rules, and we got the prize.” We walked slowly, not talking for a while. Then Tod told me that we should tell the principal the truth. I knew that was the right thing to do. I agreed right away.
The next day, Tod and I entered the principal’s office. We told him everything — how we bought young plants instead of growing from seeds, and how ashamed we felt after seeing Class 5’s hard work. The principal listened patiently and then said, “I’m proud of you two for telling me the truth. A prize won by cheating never brings real joy.” We returned the gold cup, and a heavy weight lifted from our hearts. The competition taught us that the real success isn’t about winning first place, but about choosing what’s right even when no one is watching.

Lena, a 62-year-old woman living in a quiet Canadian town, found an old guitar in the attic (阁楼) last week. She was sorting old photos and childhood toys when her hand touched the cool wood, and the familiar shape brought a big smile. The guitar’s wooden body was grey, and its strings (弦) were broken, but it brought back a flood of warm old stories.
When Lena was 7, her father often taught her to play the guitar by their lakeside house. One summer evening, he asked her to play Happy Birthday for her little brother Max. Max laughed and cheered even when she messed up notes. “Music makes every moment special,” Dad would say, smiling as Lena struggled with the music notes. Neighbors passed by to listen and sang along, while her dog Buddy moved his tail happily and touched her hand softly. That year, her father gave her the guitar as a New Year gift, telling her to record moments with the family by using music. Lena spent hours practicing every day under the big tree in the park near her home, her dog Buddy lying at her feet.
Now, so many years later, Lena softly cleaned the guitar. She replaced the strings and tried to play the old song — her fingers hurt a little, but the song felt like a hug from the past. Though her fingers were not as quick as before and her voice was a bit shaky, the same happiness filled her heart. Looking in the mirror, she saw grey hair, but her eyes shone just like they did by the lake.
“Some things never change,” Lena said softly, touching the guitar’s old neck. She missed her father, but the guitar made her feel close. The guitar looks old, but in her mind, she was still that 7-year-old girl, laughing under the sunset with her family. Age may make us look older, but the music in our hearts remains as young as ever.
24.What made Lena think of the old stories?
A.Her dog Buddy. B.The discovered guitar.
C.The lakeside house. D.The old photos.
25.Why did Lena’s father teach her to play the guitar?
A.To gift her on New Year. B.To value family time.
C.To spread music to neighbors. D.To celebrate Max’s birthday.
26.How did Lena feel when playing the old song years later?
A.Sad. B.Proud. C.Regretful. D.Joyful.
27.What does the text want to tell us?
A.Old things need care. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Music keeps us young at heart. D.Music comes from daily life.

Saturn (土星) is famous for the beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Scientists discovered the moons with a powerful telescope (望远镜), which is used to study stars and planets in great detail. Scientists took many photos of areas in space and put them on top of each other to make the moons appear bright enough to discover.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide — quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Many people are curious about the fact that Saturn has so many moons while Earth only has one. According to scientists, many millions of years ago, the huge planet’s gravity (引力) attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered by a team of scientists led by Edward Ashton, and were recently accepted officially by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons — Jupiter is not far behind with 95. However, Dr. Ashton believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
28.Why does Saturn gain new attention?
A.It is circled by beautiful rings. B.It is studied easily through a telescope.
C.Its more photos have been taken. D.Its new moons have been observed.
29.What does the underlined part “the ringed planet” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Saturn. B.Titan. C.Moon. D.Earth.
30.What does paragraph 4 mainly discuss about Saturn?
A.Where it came from. B.How its moons orbit it.
C.Why it has so many moons. D.When its rings were formed.
31.What do Dr. Ashton’s words mean?
A.Current technology needs improvement. B.Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn.

A new United Nations (UN) report says one-fifth of the world's migratory (迁徙的) animals are at risk of disappearing. Animals that migrate move from one area to another at different times of the year.
The threats (威胁) the animals face include habitat loss, illegal hunting, pollution and natural disasters. Many kinds of migratory animals, including songbirds, sea turtles, whales, sharks and others, move to different environments as the seasons change.
The UN report says about 44 percent of migratory species around the world are decreasing in population. In addition, about one in five of 1,200 species watched by the UN are at risk of becoming endangered, or completely disappearing.
These are species that move around the globe. They move to feed and breed and also need sites to stop along the way. Any habitat loss or other threats during their trips can make the animal populations fall. “Migration is important to some species. If you cut the migration, you’re going to kill the species,” said an expert.
The researchers examined existing data, including information from the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. The list identifies wildlife across the world facing threats at present.
The report was presented at a meeting of the UN’s Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Attendees of the gathering are examining suggestions for conservation measures. They are also working to identify new species of concern. Susan Lieberman is vice president of the international policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, a non-governmental organization . Our school had a “Grow Your Own Tomatoes” competition. Students worked in pairs, and the rule was clear: We must grow tomatoes from seeds (种子). The winner would get a small gold cup. Mr. Lee, the principal (校长), said, “This competition isn’t just about having the best tomatoes. It’s about learning to wait and work hard.” But Tod, my partner, wanted to win so much. “Growing from seeds takes months,” he said worriedly. “What if our seeds don’t grow well?”
I thought for a long time. I knew Mr. Lee was right, but Tod’s idea sounded good to think about. “Let’s buy young tomato plants from the market,” he said. “Everyone will be busy with their own plants. No one will know our tomatoes didn’t start from seeds,” he said again. I felt nervous, but I also wanted to win.
That weekend, we went to the market quietly. The seller gave us three strong young tomato plants. We carried them in a bag, afraid someone from school would see us. We planted them in our school garden. Though we didn’t water them every day, they grew fast. Soon, big green leaves grew out, and red tomatoes came out.
Two months later, the competition ended. Our tomatoes were bright red, big and round, so we won the first prize! We stood on the stage, holding the small gold cup proudly, while the principal praised us for our “hard work”.
But when Tod and I walked back to class, we passed Class 5’s garden. Their tomato plants were smaller, with only a few small tomatoes, but they looked healthy. We saw two boys from Class 5carefully tying the plants to small sticks to keep them straight. They talked to their teacher loudly. “We planted seeds on March 15th,” they said. “Every morning, we came to water them. Some days, the soil was dry, so we watered them again in the evening.” The teacher smiled and said, “You did a great job. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t win the award this time.”

C.He is satisfied with his team’s work. D.Saturn’s new moons will appear soon.

W: We uncovered several antiques. The most valuable find was a small bronze container decorated with cloud patterns. It was probably used to hold water. We also discovered a shell necklace, which we believe belonged to children, as well as some stone tools like a knife for cutting plants.
M: Those sound fascinating, but I imagine the work wasn’t easy. What challenges did your team face?
W: The wind was our biggest challenge. For two weeks, strong winds blew heavily. Also the bronze container was buried very deep and it took us three days to remove it safely.
M: Painstaking process but satisfying result, right? Will these items be on display in a museum?
W: Maybe, but not right away, because we’ll give the items a good clean first. Then we’ll recheck their age and take detailed records in the lab. So far, we haven’t found a safe way to display them yet. More visitors could also mean a higher risk of damage, but we will consider it once everything is ready.

Your schedule on the first day is carried out according to your arrival time. Your guide and driver will pick you up at the airport. If time allows, you will visit two popular attractions: the giant panda house in Chongqing Zoo, and Erling Park. Then they will take you to the hotel.
The next day, you will see one of the grandest rivers in China — the Yangtze River. You will enjoy a dancing party on the ship besides appreciating the Yangtze River scenery. You will also stop off to visit a village. There is an ancient temple built in the Qing Dynasty.
On the last day, you will cruise across the Three Gorges section. The scenery is quite graceful, so don’t forget to get your camera prepared. You will learn to do Tai Chi on the deck this day.
根据第一段中“The guitar’s wooden body was grey, and its strings (弦) were broken, but it brought back a flood of warm old stories.(吉他的木质琴身是灰色的,琴弦也断了,但它唤起了一连串温暖的往事)”可知,是发现的吉他让莉娜想起了过去的故事。故选B项。
根据第二段中““Music makes every moment special,” Dad would say, smiling as Lena struggled with the music notes.(“音乐能让每个瞬间都变得特别,”每当莉娜费力地识谱时,父亲总会微笑着说)”和“That year, her father gave her the guitar as a New Year gift, telling her to record moments with the family by using music.(那一年,父亲把吉他作为新年礼物送给了她,告诉她要用音乐记录与家人在一起的时刻)”可推知,莉娜的父亲教她弹吉他,是为了让她记录与家人在一起的时刻,珍惜和家人在一起的时光。故选B项。
根据第三段中“She replaced the strings and tried to play the old song — her fingers hurt a little, but the song felt like a hug from the past. Though her fingers were not as quick as before and her voice was a bit shaky, the same happiness filled her heart.(她换上琴弦,试着弹奏那首老歌——她的手指有点疼,但这首歌感觉就像来自过去的拥抱。

C.He is satisfied with his team’s work. D.Saturn’s new moons will appear soon.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.C
根据第一段中“Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274.(现在,它因更加惊人而受到关注。科学家们已经发现了土星周围的128颗新卫星,使这颗行星的总数达到274颗)”可知,土星获得新关注是因为其新卫星被发现。故选D项。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段“Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide — quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.(土星新发现的卫星大多是小天体,直径仅一两英里——这与地球直径达2,159英里的球形卫星截然不同。 故选A项。
根据第四段“Many people are curious about the fact that Saturn has so many moons while Earth only has one. According to scientists, many millions of years ago, the huge planet’s gravity (引力) attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.(许多人都对土星有这么多卫星而地球只有一个的事实感到好奇。根据科学家的说法,数百万年前,这颗巨大行星的引力吸引了一些岩石和冰。随着时间的推移,其中一些相互碰撞,分裂成更小的碎片或聚集在一起,形成了许多小卫星)”可知,本段主要讨论了为什么土星有如此多的卫星。故选C项。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段Dr. Ashton的话““I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.(他说:“我认为木星永远也赶不上了。”他补充说:“以目前的技术,我不认为我们能做得比已经完成的更好了。”)”可推知,Dr. Ashton认为在现有技术下已达到了发现极限,他们已经做得足够好了,这表达了他对团队工作成果的满意。故选C项。

She said, “One country alone cannot save any of these species. ”
32.What does the UN report mainly show?
A.Most animals are disappearing. B.Migratory species are increasing.
C.Migratory animals face some threats. D.Most species face some natural disasters.
33.What does migration mean to some species according to the expert in Paragraph 4?
A.Losing their competitors. B.A matter of life and death.
C.A lack of food and movement. D.Destroying their habitats.
34.What can we infer from Susan Lieberman's words in Paragraph 6?
A.It is difficult to identify migratory animals.
B.It is impossible to protect migratory animals.
C.Rescuing migratory species depends on policies.
D.Rescuing migratory species requires global efforts.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Human Activities Are Affecting Wildlife
B.International Meetings Push Animal Protection
C.Some Migratory Animals Are at Risk of Extinction
D.Many More Animals Are Regarded as Endangered Species
根据第一段“A new United Nations (UN) report says one-fifth of the world's migratory (迁徙的) animals are at risk of disappearing. (联合国一份新报告称,全球五分之一的迁徙动物正面临灭绝风险。)”以及第二段“The threats (威胁) the animals face include habitat loss, illegal hunting, pollution and natural disasters. (这些动物面临的威胁包括栖息地丧失、非法捕猎、污染和自然灾害。)”可知,这份联合国报告主要表明迁徙动物正面临多种生存威胁。故选C项。
33.推理判断题。根据第四段““Migration is important to some species. If you cut the migration, you’re going to kill the species,” said an expert.(一位专家表示:“迁徙对一些物种至关重要。如果阻断它们的迁徙,就相当于让这些物种走向灭绝。”)”可知,迁徙对部分物种而言是生死攸关的大事。故选B项。
34.推理判断题。根据第六段“Susan Lieberman is vice president of the international policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, a non-governmental organization . She said, “One country alone cannot save any of these species. ”(苏珊·利伯曼是非政府组织“野生动物保护协会”的国际政策副主席。她表示:“单凭任何一个国家都无法拯救这些物种。”)”可知,拯救迁徙物种需要全球各国协同合作。故选D项。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文特别是第一段“A new United Nations (UN) report says one-fifth of the world's migratory (迁徙的) animals are at risk of disappearing. Animals that migrate move from one area to another at different times of the year.(一份新的联合国报告称,全球五分之一的迁徙动物面临灭绝风险。迁徙动物指那些在不同季节从一个地区转移到另一个区域的动物。)”可知,第一段开篇点明“全球五分之一迁徙动物面临灭绝风险”,后文围绕迁徙动物面临的威胁、种群数量变化及保护需求展开。所以C项Some Migratory Animals Are at Risk of Extinction(部分迁徙动物面临灭绝风险)精准概括文章主旨。故选C项。

故填were used。

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Hearing their words, Tod and I felt ashamed and reflected what we did.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, Tod and I entered the principal’s office.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
