在第二空中,“Oscar”指奥斯卡奖项,为可数名词单数,此处特指“最佳女演员奖”,故用定冠词the表示特指“win the Oscar for Best Actress”。故选B。 2. —The sick man ________in bed ________to the doctor again. —Yes, he said he had already taken the pill ________on the table by the nurse a moment ago. A. lying; lied; laid B. laying; lay; lain C. lying; laid; lay D. laying; lied; lain 【答案】A 【解析】 【详解】句意:——那个躺在床上的病人又对医生撒谎了。 A。 3. More than 8, 600 people aged 18 to 60 were asked to play online brain games designed by the researchers to improve their memory, reasoning and other skills, for at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week. They were compared to more than 2,700 people who didn’t play any brain games, but spent a similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants were given an ‘IQ test’ before and after the experiment. Researchers found the people who did the brain training didn’t do any better on the test after six weeks than people who had simply been on the Internet. “If you’re playing these games like SNAKE (贪吃蛇) because they’re fun, that’s absolutely fine,” said Adrian Owen, the study’s lead author. “But if you’re expecting these games to improve your IQ, our studies suggest they don’t work.” It’s also found that brain games which are supposed to improve memory, reasoning and other cognitive (认知的) skills are played by millions of people worldwide, though few studies have examined if the games work. Not many studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer (迁移) to the real world. Instead of playing brain games, people would be better off getting some exercise, said Professor Kramer. He said physical activity can help produce new brain cells. Other experts said brain games might be useful, but only if they weren’t fun. “If you set the level for these games to a very high level where you don’t get the answers very often and it really makes you annoyed, then it may be useful,” said Philip. If people are enjoying the brain games, they probably aren’t being challenged and might as well be playing a regular video game. Philip said people should consider learning a new language or sport if they really want to improve their brain power. “Computer games were not an easy shortcut. Getting smart is hard work.” he added. 26. What is NOT useful in developing brain power according to the passage? A. Playing fun games. B. Learning a language. C. Playing challenging games. D. Getting some physical exercise. 27. What can we infer (推断) from the studies in the passage? A. Many studies show that brain games are a useful way of improving IQ. B. Few studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer to the real world. C. People may get smarter if they do more physical activities such as running and swimming. D. Surfing the Internet may be more useful in improving cognitive skills than video games. 28. Which would be the best title for the passage? A. How Can We Get Smarter? B. Does SNAKE Make You Smarter? C. How Can We Play Brain Games Well? D. Is Getting Smarter as Easy as Playing Games? A 27. C 28. 根据文章第2段Adrian Owen的观点“But if you’re expecting these games to improve your IQ, our studies suggest they don’t work.” 故选A。 根据文章第4段“He said physical activity can help produce new brain cells.” 根据“ecently, researchers have done an experiment on whether online brain games can improve people’s IQ.” Does SNAKE Make You Smarter? B。 B I was pleased at running away from Long John Silver though I knew he was still somewhere nearby on the island. As I was trying to find a safer place to hide myself, I heard some men talking close by. It was Silver and Tom. “I want you with me” Silver shouted, “when we have the treasure, there’s gold for you too.” “No,” cried Tom, “I told you. I’m not a murderer. You’re guilty, all of you” Sadly, these were the last words of Tom. It was a gunshot, Silver’s gun. I moved away quickly and quietly. I ran fast, not thinking about the direction I was taking. Suddenly, I saw a figure move quickly from tree to tree. What it was, whether a bear or a man or a monkey? Silver himself appeared less terrible to me now. As it was getting closer to me. It was a man. “Who are you?” I asked. “Ben Gunn,” he answered. “I’m poor Ben Gunn, and I haven’t spoken with a man these three years. Who are you, mate?” “Jim,” I told him. “Now, Jim, tell me, is that Flint’s ship?” he asked in fear, pointing to the ship which I ran away from. “No, and Flint is dead. But there are some of Flint’s hands aboard.” “Not a man... with one... leg?” Ben asked in a tremulous voice, with his pale face and scared eyes. “You mean Silver? He once worked as a cook on the ship.” I added. “Now, he is also on the island to find Flint’s treasure. He wants to kill us and take over the ship”. “Aye, that was his name, Long John Silver. The devil (魔鬼) couldn’t hold a lit candle to him,” he said, “I was on Flint’s ship when he buried (埋) the treasure, he and six strong seamen. But, when he returned, he himself alone, and the six all died. How he made it, not a man except him could make out. It was a battle, a murder, and a sudden death— him against six.” For just then, although the sun had still an hour or two to run, the whole island awoke to the thunder of a cannon (大炮). “They have begun to fight” I cried. “Follow me.” 29. Which of the following is the correct order of the plot according to the passage? a. Ben Gunn was once on the Flint’s ship. b. But, when he returned, he himself alone, and the six all died. How he made it, not a man except him could make out. It was a battle, a murder, and a sudden death—him against six.” 排第二;根据“I’m poor Ben Gunn, and I haven’t spoken with a man these three years. It was a man. ‘Who are you?’ I asked. “Ben Gunn,” he answered. 故选A。 根据文章第三段“It was a gunshot, Silver’s gun.”以及Jim对Silver的描述“He wants to kill us and take over the ship”可知,Silver开枪杀了Tom,还想杀他们并夺取船只,所以Silver是残忍的。 根据文章第一段“I was pleased at running away from Long John Silver though I knew he was still somewhere nearby on the island.”可知,Jim成功地从Silver那里逃开了,即“I managed to hide myself from Silver.”,B选项正确。故选B。 C Artwork is lovely to look at, and it has the power to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions (情绪)? Scientists recently carried out a study at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. The museum is home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer. It was painted in 1665. ① The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop. ② It was shown that their emotional reactions (反应) were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings. The most active part of the brain while looking at the artworks was the area that controls people’s personal identity (身份) and consciousness (意识). ③ How did that happen? According to the study, people may experience something called a “sustained attentional loop” when they watch a certain painting. The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated in a continuous loop. Each time they completed the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper, which meant that people stared at the painting for longer. Martin de Munnik, one of the researchers in this study, said, “That means you have to pay attention whether you want to or not.” It was as if the painting itself had a power to hold the viewers’ attention and guide their eye movement in a very involuntary (无意识的) way. ④ The director of the Mauritshuis, Martine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether it’s paintings, photography or dancing. She added, “it really helps develop your brain.” The researchers are now eager to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do similar experiments on works like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. 32. What is the purpose of the study? A. To explain different ways to study a painting. B. To check people’s interest in museum paintings. C. To find differences between a painting and its photo. D. To watch people’s reactions to real art and its photos. 33. We can put the following sentence “The team also found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” in ________. A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④ 34. How does the writer introduce the “sustained attentional loop”? A. By giving an example. B. By telling a story. C. By listing numbers. D. By offering advice. 35. What is the best title of the passage? A. The Power of Real Works of Art B. Lessons from Real Works of Art C. The Way to Enjoy Real Works of Art D. A Visit to Real Works of Art 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第三段“The researchers used eye-tracking equipment and a brain scanner to watch how people reacted to several paintings. First, the volunteers were asked to look at the real paintings on display, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop.” 根据第二段“The museum is home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer.”可知,莫里茨皇家美术馆有《戴珍珠耳环的少女》这幅画,再结合第四段“It was shown that their emotional reactions (反应) were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings.”可知,人们看真画时的情绪反应比看照片时强烈10倍,所以“The team also found that the group reacted even more strongly to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” 根据第五段“How did that happen? According to the study, people may experience something called a ‘sustained attentional loop’ when they watch a certain painting. The volunteers’ attention was first drawn to the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then to her pearl earring.” 故选A。 根据第一段“But do you know that when people see a real work of art, rather than just looking at a photo of it, they are likely to experience stronger emotions (情绪)?” 故选A。 Ⅴ. Trust has been considered to be the basis of any relationship, including friendship. The survey found children as young as eight were interested in news. However, the spread of wrong information makes it difficult for children to understand events. The survey also found only one-third of young people felt they could tell whether news they read was real or not. Here are what adults can do to help children critically (批判地) think about the news. To help decide if a source can be trusted, they can ask the following questions. Is it clear who created this news? If opinions are presented as facts, this may lead to wrong ideas. Does it include all the important people? D. Surfing the Internet may be more useful in improving cognitive skills than video games. 28. Which would be the best title for the passage? A. How Can We Get Smarter? B. Does SNAKE Make You Smarter? 35. Viewers need to be able to ask the person or organization why and how they created the story. Does it present facts straight or does it include opinions? If opinions are presented as facts, this may lead to wrong ideas. Does it include all the important people? If a story speaks up for organizations or groups of people, all these important people should have the chance to reply to these opinions. Some media may make use of people’s feelings. Discussing how children feel about news helps them decide which news programs to watch. Research shows sensationalist (耸人听闻的) news titles can receive more clicks online. Adults can also talk to children why people spread wrong information, such as changing people’s mind on who to vote for or attracting more clicks. News media talk about events in different ways. Parents and teachers can help children be careful while reading stories. In some stories people can’t present their ideas honestly. In these cases, it’s best to find other news sources to consider how they are reporting the story. Discussing what children think of the news can help them build their critical thinking skills. News that can be trusted is important to society. People depend on it to help make decisions in their lives.
