Under a new policy, which takes effect Tuesday, the poles won’t make it past the bag check at any Disney World theme park. The sticks also won’t be allowed in Disney World water parks or Disney Quest, a gaming attraction at Downtown Disney. Selfie-sticks will also become forbidden at Disneyland Resort in California on June 30. The prohibition begins at Disney’s parks in Paris and Hong Kong on July 1st. Guests will be checked for the equipment during the routine bag check that happens near the parks’ entrances. They will have an option of turning in their selfie-sticks for pick-up later or to go back to their cars or hotel rooms to keep them. Visitors will be told of the policy in locations such as the parking lots and at the resort’s hotels. The prohibition will be added to the park rules post on Disney World’s website. The issue has been building at Disney. Previously, the sticks were prohibited from its rides, and “no selfie-sticks” signs were at select rides, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. Cast members have given oral warnings to rule breakers. Selfie-stick users put smartphones and cameras on the ends of poles to extend their reach, frequently capturing theme-park moments through self-portraits. The tools have been banned in public places-including some museums and stadiums — worldwide for obstructing views or causing safety issues. Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers, according to its official website, which also lists “other items that we determine may be harmful”. Universal Orlando has banned selfie-sticks and other loose items from certain thrill rides at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks, but it has not set parkwide bans. 21. Which of the following objects has already been banned in Disney World before the new policy takes effect? A. Smartphones. B. Folding chairs. C. Cameras. D. Containers. 22. According to the ban, if the guests are found carrying selfie-sticks during the routine bag check, they may . A. abandon them at the bag check B. get fined and pick them up later C. turn them in to the police D. put them in the trunk of their cars 23. The underlined word in the fifth paragraph probably means . A. changing B. broadening C. blocking D. narrowing B Born on her family’s farm in Ray, North Dakota, Mary Sherman Morgan had been helping her father with farm work before she could attend the small-town schoolhouse. Being a few years behind didn’t hold her back and she graduated from high school with honors. Aware of her intelligence, she ran away from Ray to attend Minot State University as a chemistry major, where her skill was evident. The outbreak of World War II led to a national shortage of chemists and scientists. In spite of the fact that she was still a student and a woman, she was offered a job as a chemical analyst due to her talents, producing explosives (爆炸物) for the wartime effort. She put her degree on hold and moved to Ohio, taking on the dangerous job of analyzing unstable chemicals to produce weapons.  After the war ended there was a fall in demand for explosives, so she made a move to the field of aeronautics, moving to California to work for NAA (North American Aviation). The only woman out of 900 engineers, she was soon promoted to a role which involved calculating the performance of rocket propellants (推进剂) and designing special fuels to work with different engines. However, never having returned to complete her degree, she was not afforded the rank or higher pay of an engineer, even though she had all the skills and knowledge of one.  Her experience with propellants meant that when NAA was tasked to find a fuel capable of lifting the redesigned Redstone missiles into space, Morgan was appointed technical lead on the project. National pride was on the line, so Morgan set about investigating fuels. After countless trials, she finally designed her own mixture, which was named Hydyne.  Hydyne tested well with the Redstone missiles and subsequently other aircraft (飞行器) , such as Jupiter-C rockets, proving to be a quick solution to getting to space without a total rocket redesign. The fuel made the first successful US satellite launch possible, even if Morgan silently slipped away from her success, retiring to focus on her family and leaving her chemistry career behind. 24. What do we know about Mary? A. She attended school while helping with farm work. B. She was offered a job as a chemistry analyst after graduation. C. She changed her working focus because her country’s demand changed. D. She launched the first US satellite before retiring from her career. 25. What was Mary doing after the war ended? A. Analyzing chemicals. B. Producing explosives. C. Mixing and saving fuels. D. Designing and building aircraft. 26. What made Mary the technical lead on the project of NAA? A. Her special knowledge in fuels. B. Her rank as an engineer. C. Her discovery of Hydyne. D. Her sense of national pride 27. Which of the following words can describe Mary Sherman Morgan? A. Caring and determined. B. Intelligent and skillful. C. Courageous but sensitive. D. Accomplished but proud. C Like Transformers (变形金刚), most robots move in two modes: on wheels or on human-inspired feet. About 15 years ago, researchers developed animal-inspired robots, such as robot dogs or snake-like machines. Yet one part of nature was almost ignored: plants. Many roboticists assume that plants neither move nor sense. But Dr. Barbara Mazzolai, an Italian roboticist, has challenged this idea. She worked with her team to create “FiloBot”, a climbing plant-inspired robot that can grow and seek supports all on its own. So how does a climbing plant survive? It grows out of soil and travels along to search for a support, such as a tree. It is also a fast grower, reaching 2 to 5 meters in a year, with even more growth in full sunlight. FiloBot copies the climbing plants’ behaviors. By melting (熔化) and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute — far outpacing bamboo, the world’s fastest-growing plant, which can grow at up to 0.7 mm per minute. Moreover, FiloBot can intelligently control its growth in two ways. By adjusting (调整) the temperature of plastic, it can control growth speed: lower temperatures speed up growth while higher ones slow it down; by adjusting the amount of plastic added to the circle, it can also attach to supports. These climbing plant-inspired functions allow FiloBot to get through complex environments. Mazzolai hopes FiloBot will inspire more inventions rooted in the plant kingdom. “The plant kingdom, so different from animals, can lead to new technologies and artificial solutions,” she said. 28. Why do roboticists show little interest in plants? A. They think plants move too slowly. B. They are influenced by Transformers. C. They find it difficult to copy plants’ structures. D. They have a misconception that plants cannot move. 29. How does FiloBot grow itself? A. By attaching itself to a 3D printer. B. By forming body with melted plastic. C. By copying bamboo’s growth pattern. D. By following animals’ clever behaviors. 30. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “outpacing” in paragraph 4? A. Getting close to. B. Going faster than. C. Keeping up with. D. Watching out for. 31. What feature of climbing plants has inspired FiloBot? A. Their strong structure. B. Their independent power. C. Their light-seeking ability. D. Their self-adjusting growth. D In Europe, the Netherlands is known for dikes (堤坝) that hold back the sea. Without dikes, this nation’s low-lying peatland (泥炭地) would be underwater. These areas weren’t always below sea level. Around the year 900, the peatland “was about 2 meters above sea level,” says Wils, a scientist at Utrecht University. Peatland was too wet to make good farmland. So the Dutch began to dry them. That’s when their land sinking (沉降) started, Wils says. Today, the Dutch use their peatlands to raise cows. But they must first remove extra water. Otherwise, this land is too wet to support the cows. So the land continues to sink. The Dutch peatlands now lie 2 meters below sea level—a drop of 4 meters in most areas. Wils is studying new ways to reduce sinking while supporting the land and people here. One method is called wet farming. That’s a term for “growing plants in wet environments,” Wils explains. Adding water back to the land makes the peat lighter and softer. It also allows new peat to form, which raises the height of the land. Of course, not all news is good about this wet farming. Flooded fields can give off methane(CH4). This is a strong greenhouse gas that is much worse for the climate than carbon dioxide(CO2). Flooded rice fields commonly give off methane. So Wils is studying ways to cut their release of this gas. He doesn’t want a fix for sinking that worsens climate change. Wet farming isn’t just a choice for the Netherlands. It’s also used in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. Peatlands can not only stop flooding, but also provide natural beauty for people to enjoy. “It makes sense to develop a landscape that supports the cities and provides relaxation,” Wils says. “These are actually very easy to combine.” 32. What might be the reason for the Netherlands’s peatland sinking? A. The building of dikes. B. The rise of sea levels. C. The removal of its water. D. The weight of the cows. 33. What is the main idea of paragraph 3? A. Effects of wet farming. B. Development of peatland. C. Causes of land sinking. D. Formation of greenhouse gases. 34. What is Wils’ attitude toward the future of wet farming? A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Hopeful. 35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Birth of Wet Farming B. The Fix for Sinking Land C. The Application of Peatlands D. The Seriousness of Land Sinking Tips for Visiting National Parks Whether you’re visiting a historic urban neighborhood or seeking the vastness of splendid landscape, safety must come first.___36___ Pick a park The first step is an easy one — find a park! I personally have hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place. Yesterday I had a taste of being stuck in such a desperate situation where your only hope of help would have to come from a total stranger. I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large and expensive shops, I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot and my phone was dead. I then requested the shop assistant selling me the luggage, which was not cheap at all, if she could ring the number of my driver for me. She replied, still all smiles, “I’m sorry Sir, but it is the shop policy that we cannot use mobile phones while working in the shop.” As I was wondering what kind of policy that was, I saw a nice-looking teenage boy coming toward me. Remember my wife’s interesting theory that beautiful people are more likely to give you a hand when you’re in trouble, I thought I might have a chance. But before I could say a word, he walked past me. It turned out he simply didn’t see me. I waited in the mall but it seemed nobody bothered to look at me. Disappointed and tired, I got out of the shop on to the busy street in front. I stood there with people rushing by, looking at their faces to see if they will show kindness to me. I began wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the shop girl and the teenager. That was when I saw a young mother with her two kids. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally a man wearing a cheap T-shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。Sorry, miss, we didn't notice we served a wrong dish. Today i'd like to introduce a chinese Young scientist. His name is lyn shane, who is thirty five years old and has just won the twenty twenty five science exploration award. Lin is from gee john university, and his research focuses on the field of medical science. Since he was Young, lynn has been curious about how the human body works and how to cure diseases. This curiosity let them to study hard and finally step onto the path of scientific research. IT was a long and tough journey. There were countless failures and setbacks. However, lyn never gave up. He spent day and night in the laboratory conducting experiments, analyzing data, discussing with his team. Finally, his efforts paid off. A. abandon them at the bag check B. get fined and pick them up later C turn them in to the police D. put them in the trunk of their cars 23. The underlined word in the fifth paragraph probably means . A. changing B. broadening C. blocking D. narrowing 【答案】21. B 22. D 23. 根据倒数第二段“Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers”(迪士尼乐园已经禁止了滑板、直排轮溜冰鞋、马车、折叠椅和玻璃容器等物品)可知,在新政策生效前,折叠椅已被禁止进入迪士尼主题公园。 根据第三段第二句“They will have an option of turning in their selfie-sticks for pick-up later or to go back to their cars or hotel rooms to keep them.”(游客可以选择交出自拍杆,稍后再取,或者放回车里或者是房间里保存)所以根据这项禁令,可推知,如果客人被发现在例行的行李检查中携带自拍杆,可能会把它们放在汽车后备箱里。 C。 B Born on her family’s farm in Ray, North Dakota, Mary Sherman Morgan had been helping her father with farm work before she could attend the small-town schoolhouse. 24. C 25. D 26. A 27. D 29. B 30. B 31. 根据第四段“By melting and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute.(FiloBot通过熔化塑料并以环形轨迹挤出的方式,能够以每分钟2至7毫米的速度3D打印自身结构)”可知,FiloBot是通过用融化的塑料形成身体来自我生长的。 根据划线词上文“By melting (熔化) and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute(FiloBot通过熔化塑料并以环形轨迹挤出的方式,能够以每分钟2至7毫米的速度3D打印自身结构)”和下文“the world’s fastest-growing plant, which can grow at up to 0.7 mm per minute(世界上最快的植物竹子的最高生长速度仅为每分钟0.7毫米)”可知,这一速度远超世界上生长最快的植物竹子。 根据第四段“Moreover, FiloBot can intelligently control its growth in two ways.(此外,FiloBot可以通过两种方式智能地控制其生长)”可知,攀爬植物自我调节的生长启发了FiloBot。故选D。 D In Europe, the Netherlands is known for dikes (堤坝) that hold back the sea. The Seriousness of Land Sinking 【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. 根据第一段“Peatland was too wet to make good farmland. So the Dutch began to dry them. That’s when their land sinking started, Wils says.(泥炭地太湿,无法成为良好的农田。所以荷兰人开始把它们晒干。Wils说,这就是他们的土地开始下沉的时候。)”可知,荷兰泥炭地沉降的原因是水的去除。故选C。 【33题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“Adding water back to the land makes the peat lighter and softer. It also allows new peat to form, which raises the height of the land.(把水加回土地使泥炭变得更轻更软。它还允许新的泥炭形成,从而提高土地的高度。)”可知,本段主要介绍了湿耕的效果。故选A。 根据最后一段“Peatlands can not only stop flooding, but also provide natural beauty for people to enjoy. “It makes sense to develop a landscape that supports the cities and provides relaxation,” Wils says. “These are actually very easy to combine”.(泥炭地不仅可以阻止洪水,还可以为人们提供自然美景。 Tips for Visiting National Parks Whether you’re visiting a historic urban neighborhood or seeking the vastness of splendid landscape, safety must come first.___36___ Pick a park The first step is an easy one — find a park! Thanks for listening! My Role Model Dear teachers and classmates, The role model in my heart is Ms. Li, my English teacher. She also inspires us to embrace courage, often reminding us, “Mistakes are stepping stones to growth.” Her patience has shaped me into a more diligent learner, while her encouraging words gave me the confidence to speak English aloud in class. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: That was when I saw a young mother with her two kids. She was talking on the phone, and her voice told me she was a gentle and patient lady. The two kids were neatly dressed and waited quietly beside her. This must be a nice family, I thought to myself. Therefore, I approached to make a request. But as soon as I said, “Excuse me madam,” she grabbed both her kids and went away. Did I look like someone trying to hurt people? I felt my heart sinking horribly. Finally a man wearing a cheap T-shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. I didn’t know why but I just stopped him and made my request. I was expecting him to rush past but he immediately called the number of my driver and waited till my car came to be sure I was picked up, turned around before I could thank him adequately and was gone. Surprised by his kindness, I promised I would do likewise to strangers who sought my help. 词汇激活 行为类 走近:approach/come near 走开:go away/walk away 提出请求:make a request /ask for a favor 情绪类 感谢:thank /express gratitude to 惊讶:surprised /astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1] But as soon as I said, “Excuse me madam,” she grabbed both her kids and went away. (运用了as soon as引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] Surprised by his kindness, I promised I would do likewise to strangers who sought my help.
