We can do many interesting chemical tests in our class. Today, we will use CO₂ to blow up a balloon! Mixing baking soda (小苏打) with vinegar (醋) together can give off the CO₂.
What you’ll need
(1) A balloon
(2) About 40 ml of water
(3) A soft drink bottle
(4) Vinegar or lemon juice
(5) A teaspoon of baking soda
Instructions
●Before you begin, make sure that you pull the balloon long to make it as easy as possible to blow up.
●Put the 40 ml of water into the soft drink bottle.
●Add the baking soda and mix it with water.
●Put the vinegar in and quickly put the balloon over the mouth of the bottle.
What’s happening?
If all goes well, then the balloon should become bigger and bigger! Adding the vinegar to the baking soda creates a chemical effect. The baking soda is a base (碱), while the vinegar is an acid (酸). When the two are mixed, they’ll create CO₂. The gas rises up and runs away through the soft drink bottle. However, it doesn’t get away from the balloon, pushing it outwards and blowing it up.
21. What will be given off when the baking soda and vinegar are mixed?
A. O₂. B. O₃. C. CO₂. D. CO.
22. What should you do before you begin the chemical test?
A. Heat the water. B. Drink some juice.
C. Pull the balloon long. D. Blow up the balloon.
23. What shows that the chemical test is successful?

五、读写综合。(本大题分为A、B两部分,共25分)
A. 回答问题
阅读下面这篇文章,根据所提供的信息回答5个问题。要求所写答案语法正确、语义完整。
There are different ways to think about and solve problems. Most people just think in the so-called “forward (向前的) way”. For example, taking out the water isn’t the only way to save the boy in a water vat (缸). Breaking the vat to let the water out can also solve the problem. This is called reverse thinking (逆向思维), which means considering a problem in an opposite way.
Reverse thinking is considered as a really useful problem-solver, especially when students fail to solve a problem with forward thinking.
Then how to develop reverse thinking? First, discuss the question in an opposite way like “How can I have a bad relationship with my parents?” Second, offer possible answers and choose at least two. That can give you lots of possibilities. For example, never communicate with them, be impolite to them, or never help at home. Then, think about the most important parts—being impolite to them and never communicating with them. Finally, go back to your problem and reverse your solutions. I should be polite to my parents, communicate with them actively, or write to them twice a week.
All in all, reverse thinking is a useful skill for students to improve themselves, as it can help them become more open-minded and creative problem-solvers in all areas of their lives. What’s more, it can make them become better people.
46. How does the writer introduce the topic of reverse thinking in Paragraph 1, by giving an example or comparing facts?
