If your body mass index is over 30, you will be defined as obese. As a result, some cities in China have included BMI in the PE test for the high school entrance examination, or zhongkao. For example, Beijing declared that BMI became a subject of the PE test for the zhongkao. Chengdu and Shanghai have also started similar actions. This change aims to encourage students to pay more attention to their health and exercise habits. Zhang Yanshu is an eighth-grader from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School. He started by running with his dad, and soon took training classes. “I think BMI and the events for the exam go well together. When I practice the events, my BMI gets better; when my BMI gets better, I feel more energetic doing the events.” Zhang also paid much attention to his food. “I ate brown rice instead of white rice, and chicken for meat most of the time,” he said. “It was for sure sad.” His BMI reached a good level after months of effort. Chen Kaifei, 14, also from Beijing, said that BMI is also a problem for students who are too thin, and has caused some “figure anxiety (身材焦虑)” among students. “However, mostly I think it has benefits (益处),” Chen said. “Everyone has a better understanding of their body and health conditions, and I started to care about my lifestyle every day, simply to keep my BMI at a good level.” Adding BMI to the zhongkao PE test helps students focus on their health, but it also brings challenges. While some like Zhang Yanshu, succeed by combining exercise, and healthy eating, others worry about stress over body image. Schools and families should guide students to care for their health without feeling too much pressure. 4. What did Zhang Yanshu do to improve his BMI according to the text? A. He took medicine and avoided sugary food. B. He focused on training classes and stopped eating rice. C. He practiced running and changed his diet to brown rice and chicken. D. He followed a strict diet without exercise. 5. What does Chen Kaifei think about BMI being included in the PE test? A. It only causes anxiety and has no good influence. B. It helps students understand their health better. C. It makes students too thin. D. It is unnecessary because students are healthy. 6 How does the writer organize the passage? A. By introducing a policy (政策), using examples, and showing results. B. By comparing BMI rules in different cities. C. By arguing BMI should not be used in exams. D. By giving a personal story of a student who failed a test. 7. What is the main purpose of adding BMI to the zhongkao PE test? A. To make students compete for higher scores. B. To help students develop healthier habits. C. To reduce the number of overweight students. D. To make the P.E. test more difficult and competitive. 【答案】4 C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据文章第2段“He started by running with his dad, and soon took training classes.”以及“I ate brown rice instead of white rice, and chicken for meat most of the time”可知,张延书通过跑步、参加训练班,并将白米饭换成糙米、主要吃鸡肉来改善BMI。 根据文章第3段陈凯飞的话“However, mostly I think it has benefits… Everyone has a better understanding of their body and health conditions”可知,他认为BMI纳入考试虽有引起焦虑的一面,但主要是有益的,能帮助学生更好地了解自身健康状况。 故选A。 根据文章第1段“This change aims to encourage students to pay more attention to their health and exercise habits.” B。 C Green Energy for Today and Tomorrow Did you know that most of the energy we use comes from the sun? For example, the sun helps plants to grow. Plants that grew millions of years ago turned into coal, oil, and natural gas. We call these fossil fuels However, fossil fuels make pollution. This is bad for the Earth. Fossil fuels are also nonrenewable. Some day they will be gone. So, scientists want people to use green energy. Why is green energy important? First, it is clean. It doesn’t hurt the Earth. Next, it is renewable. It won’t run out. Green energy gives us almost 25% of the electricity we use today. What are the main sources (来源) of green energy? Water Power Water power uses moving water in rivers and dams (堤坝). Moving water has energy. Water power makes 16.6% of the electricity we use. Wind Power Is wind power new? No, it isn’t. People used wind power many years ago. Wind power makes 4% of the electricity we use. Solar Power Solar power comes from sunlight. The sun shines on solar panels (太阳能板), and electricity is made. Solar power is now as cheap as some fossil fuels. It makes 15% of the electricity we use. Biomass (生物质能) Biomass is energy that we get from plants around us. For example, dead wood or grass is burned in power stations. This makes electricity. Biomass is green energy because we plant new trees or crops (庄稼) after we use it. Biomass makes 2% of the electricity we use. New Green Energy Oceans rise and fall each day. This moving water can make electricity. We call it tide power. There is also heat under the Earth’s surface. Scientists can use this heat for energy, which is called heat power. We may find other sources of green energy in the future. Some day, green energy could make 100% of the electricity we use. That’s good news for the Earth! 8. How do we get most of the electricity nowadays? A. Through fossil fuels. B. Through green energy. C. Through other kinds of energy. D. Through nuclear power. 9. In Paragraph 2, what’s the meaning of the word “nonrenewable”? 10. Why do scientists suggest using green energy? A. Because it is as cheap as fossil fuels. B. Because it is clean and won’t be used up. C. Because it is the main source of electricity now. D. B BMI is a measure (测量方法) that uses your height and weight to work out if you are fit. A It only causes anxiety and has no good influence. B. It helps students understand their health better. C. It makes students too thin. D. It is unnecessary because students are healthy. 6. How does the writer organize the passage? C Green Energy for Today and Tomorrow Did you know that most of the energy we use comes from the sun? D. Because it is easier to get. 11. Where can we get biomass? A. From natural gas. B. From newly planted trees. C. From dead plants. D. From fossil fuels. D Recently, the online song Mei Chuxi has become very popular across Taiwan and the mainland. It has touched the hearts of people on both sides. As a part of China, Taiwan shares the same cultural roots and language with the Chinese mainland. This has helped the song spread quickly and be understood by people in both regions. Why has the song been so popular? It can be explained in three ways. First, the lyrics are simple and the melody (旋律) is catchy. It describes the daily life and pressure of ordinary people, allowing listeners to relax and laugh. Second, short video platforms have helped it spread faster. People from the mainland and Taiwan have made their own versions (版本) of the song, such as piano or suona (唢呐) versions, which made it even more popular. Most importantly, people on both sides share similar cultures and life experiences, so they can easily understand the feelings in the song. This cultural phenomenon (现象) has positive meanings. It breaks stereotypes (刻板印象) about cross-Strait (海峡) cultural exchanges and creates a friendly bridge for young people to communicate. It also shows people’s wish for better understanding and harmony (和谐) between the two sides. In a word, Mei Chuxi is an example of how culture can bring people together. It proves that culture is a strong bond (纽带) between compatriots (同胞) across the Strait. We hope more works like this will appear in the future to deepen friendship and trust among young people. 12. Which of the following is NOT a reason leading to the song’s success? A. The song’s simple lyrics and attractive melody. B. Short-video platforms speeding up its spread. C. Different language foundations between the two sides. D. Shared cultural genes and similar life experiences. 13. What have people from both sides created to make the song more popular? A. Dance performances and art exhibitions. B. Piano versions and suona versions. C. English translations and movie adaptations. D. Rock music and jazz versions. 14. What are the positive meanings of this cultural phenomenon? ①Breaking old ideas of cross-Strait cultural exchanges ②Building a communication bridge for young people ③Reflecting the wish for cross-Strait harmony ④Removing all cross-Strait cultural differences A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④ 15. What can we infer from the passage? A. The song only attracts people in Taiwan region. B. Culture plays an important role in connecting people across the Strait. C. Short-video platforms are not helpful for the song’s spread. D. There are no other creative works like Mei Chuxi in the future. (独白读两遍) Name Job or Nationality Matter Mr King He teaches ________ in Beijing NO.36 Middle School.
