Friends and family members are tied down in jobs, struggling to save money, and don't always want to go to the same places. The solution, of course, is to go it alone. Melbourne, Australia Melbourne is a hot-spot travel destination, which has beautiful beaches as well as busy and lively city life. Australia as a whole is considered a safe destination for international travel, and because of that, many solo travellers go there. Melbourne is incredibly easy to get around because you can walk or bike practically anywhere! Thailand Thailand is great for solo travellers—perhaps because it is one of the Buddhist mentalities, which promote equality among the sexes. Thailand is known for its friendly hospitality, and as a travel hot-spot, there are plenty of chances to meet other like-minded travellers. Overall known for being very cheap, especially in the north, it's a good choice if you want to get away on a budget. Bhutan Bhutan is one of the most cultural countries in the world. There is the world's highest unclimbed peak, Gangkhar Puensum, located on the border between China and Bhutan. The mountain is sacred and entry is only possible on a pre-booked tour, where you are accompanied around by your own personal guide. Plastic bags have been banned in Bhutan since 1999 and in 2004, it became the first country in the world to outlaw tobacco. Costa Rica Costa Rica is a great place if you're looking for adventure, with surfing, volcanoes and other recreational activities. You'll never get a chance to feel lonely because there's an abundance of exciting adventures to experience! Costa Rica has never seen political unrest, class struggles or revolutions commonly associated with other Latin American countries. What's more, it doesn't have or need an army because it's such a peaceful country. 1. Which place is suitable for travellers short of money? A. Melbourne, Australia. B. Thailand. C. Bhutan. D. Costa Rica. 2. What can we learn about travelling in Bhutan? A. You can climb the mountain without booking ahead. B. You can prepare some plastic bags for your rubbish. C. You can experience the rich culture there. D. Smoking is allowed at the foot of the mountain. 3. Where does this text probably come from? A. A historical document. B. A science magazine. C. A travel guide. D. A book review. 【语篇导读】这是一篇应用文,文章主要介绍了澳大利亚的墨尔本、泰国、不丹和哥斯达黎加这四个旅游地点。 1. My husband, Dale, and I were sailing along the Alaskan coast, and there were so many things to do: eat delicious food, swim in the pool or relax in the cafe. But I couldn't stop thinking about my secret dream: to sing on a cruise ship. You must have thought I was crazy. Back when Dale and I went on our first cruise, the music made me want to sing on board, to share the joy I got from the cruise. We greeted the other passengers in the cafe, and the host said something to get things started. Then he opened the floor to anyone who wished to speak. Dale raised his hand and said, "My wife has a song she'd like to sing." The host nodded his head. The other passengers looked at me hopefully. I stood up, my heart beating fast. Dale held my hand. The group applauded as I finished the final note. I'd barely touched the chair when someone called out, "Sing another one!" Everyone agreed. I sang two more songs. What a day! What a trip! The next afternoon, Dale and I were walking to our room when I heard my name. It was a woman from the cafe. "Won't you sing something for me?" I sang right there in the hallway. Heads turned towards me. One man nodded to my words. A woman smiled as she passed. We continued to our room. But we didn't make it far. Another woman stopped us. "You have a great gift," she said. We sailed on. And all the way, people kept asking me to sing. Dale and I had gotten used to it by now. I felt honoured, but not because the other passengers liked my voice. 8. Why did the writer look forward to singing on a cruise ship? A. To show off her gift on music. B. To attract more attention. C. To make more friends. D. To express her joy with the music. 9. To advise starting a dance party. 10. What can we know about the writer from the text? A. She was a professional singer. B. She sang two songs in the cafe at that time. C. She could do anything as she wished. C. She was popular among other passengers. D. She finally realised her secret dream. 【语篇导读】这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述了作者生活状况,最终实现了自己的秘密梦想——在游轮上唱歌。 8. I'm sitting in red dirt—wearing an ugly purple T-shirt. My face is pink and my hair is wet with sweat. Flies buzz around my head. I'm in the Outback of Australia's Northwest Territory, on a school trip with 20 parents and 20 kids. It was an odd choice for a holiday. I like sitting by the pool with a cola, not flies and frogs. I like being alone and quiet, not a busload of kids. I like freshly washed sheets, not dirty-looking blankets. But here's the thing about that photo: I am smiling! The trip sounded good when I signed up. Guides would take us into the heart of the place, and I would see a new part of Australia, learn about local culture and bond with my youngest daughter. I would also bond with 40 strangers. I just hoped there would be good coffee. In Darwin we were herded onto a bus. It quickly became tiresome. The kids were loud and I hate making small talk. But later, when I looked out at the vast, empty land, I was surprised at and moved by its beauty. Our guide told us about the land and his culture. I felt far from home. At a national park, we enjoyed a natural swimming hole. Kids and parents had a great time. Then we got to the Outback. The cabin I shared with my daughter was a brick cell, full of geckos and crickets, but too dark to see them. It didn't matter. The next nine days were packed: waterfalls, lakes, community visits and a trip around Katharine Gorge. We even saw giant crocodiles and baby wallabies. On our last night, a water pipe broke. We awoke to a mess. Usually, I would have complained and asked for a refund, but it just seemed normal to be dirty. Indeed, it was impossible to stay clean. We were hiking in red dirt, with temperatures of 35 degrees. Still, I felt a kind of energy I hadn't experienced in years. Yes, the coffee was bad, but I was too focused on keeping crickets off my face. I love that photo of me in the dirt. I look messy, but also happy. Sometimes, it's another way of travelling. There is beautiful scenery, there is dirt. There was always someone to talk to, someone to laugh with. 12. What were the writer's previous trips like according to the text? A. Cheap. B. Adventurous. C. Peaceful and comfortable. D. Packed with outdoor activities. 13. What do we know about the writer's trip with her daughter? A. Their journey was relaxing without too much sightseeing. B. Their living conditions were fairly poor during the trip. C. The scenery on the trip disappointed them. D. The parents seemed to enjoy themselves more than the children. 14. How did the writer feel during the later part of the trip? A. Impatient. B. Positive. C. Disappointed. D. Exhausted. 15. What is the writer's main purpose of writing this text? A. To warn readers to choose their trips wisely. B. To share the benefits of travelling with children. C. To tell about her latest trip and explain what she learnt from it. D. To show the advantages of going to different places. 【语篇导读】这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述了作者最近的一次旅行,这次不像她之前的旅行那么安静、舒适,她学会了享受旅行过程中的快乐并解释她从中学到了什么。 12. Whether he is travelling around the Kerala coastline or hiking in the mountains, he always carries a laptop and four or five cameras with him. 16 They have helped him turn his adventures into amazing videos, inspiring people everywhere to get out and explore all that India has to offer. In only two years, Sharma has produced nearly 100 videos for his web page on a video website. 17 From the thick forests in Meghalaya (a state in northeastern India), to the purple mountains in Tamil Nadu (a state in southeastern India), where he recorded the rare blossoming of the Kurinji flowers, —a phenomenon that happens once every 12 years—Sharma has shown a side off India that many people may never have known existed. Not even himself. _____18_____He vividly remembers riding through the south of India on his motorcycle, exploring tree-lined streets in Pondicherry's French district, and being struck by the beauty of the peaceful hill station Munnar. 19 However, Sharma knows there is no end to his exploration in India. He is so enthusiastic about sharing the lesser-seen side of his homeland, in new and better ways, that he has been known to open his laptop and work even on mountaintops. “ 20 And I've never stopped,” he says. “The driving force for me is to keep learning.” A. Then there was the motorcycle tour in Kerala. B. I started producing travel videos two years ago. C. He might be running out of new places to sit. D. As a travel writer, these are tools of his trade. After we gathered enough wood from the forest, he started the campfire using only stone and steel-no match es. For supper we feasted on freeze-dried beef, wild rice and pea soup. I ate greedily after all that work. Tired enough, we climbed into our sleeping bags early and talked about our plans for fishing the next day. We were still talking quietly when a sudden north wind picked up: the temperature dropped and it began to snow. Steve found a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the forest to the opposite side of the campfire. Then he wrapped aluminum foil (铝箔) around the log. The heat from the fire reflected off the foil and into the tent. Soon images of lake fish were filling my dreams. The snow had stopped, but sometime later a powerful wind must ha re kicked up the flames of our dying fire. I was suddenly awakened by Steve. Our tent was on fire. Frightened, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed(倒塌) with Steve inside. Without any thought of endangering myself, I reached into the burning ter t and pulled him to the icy lake. Fortunately, we were not seriously hurt. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation.______________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly, we heal d a noise in the forest._____________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ One possible version: Later, as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm, we considered our difficult situation. Our campsite was in the deep of the forest, really far away from the highway. We were in the middle of nowhere, wearing only underwear, with our supplies burnt into ashes, including our cellphones. Even Steve was unsure what to do next. The only thing we could do was just to sit in the cold air and to wonder how to get out of the forest. Suddenly, we heard a noise in the forest. Anxiously we listened and stared into the darkness. A jeep appeared. A forester had spotted the light from the fire and had come to have a check. We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. Steve and I had many more camping adventures from then on, but it was on this trip that Steve began to treat me more like a friend rather than a younger cousin. Our friendship continues to this day. A For some of us who long to travel, it can be difficult to find someone to journey with. B A young Chinese scientific explorer will attempt to make the longest unaided solo trek across Antarctica after departing from Beijing on Wednesday. Covering about 2,000 kilometres, the solo trek is expected to take 80 to 85 days. If successful, Wen Xu, 32, will be the first person to cross Antarctica alone from the shore Berkner Island, according to the event organiser. Wen told reporters on Monday that he plans to fly from Beijing and transfer at Punta Arenas, Chile. Starting at Berkner Island in Antarctica, he plans to cross the South Pole and finally reach the Ross Ice Shelf. He plans to make the trek on cross-country skis, dragging a 200 kilogram sled equipped with food, fuel, extra skis and communication equipment. Airplanes will be available to provide emergency assistance. During the trek, he will collect scientific samples for research, and more importantly, help people realise the impact of global warming. "Climate change remains a huge challenge for humans. By conquering the difficulties of solo crossing the Antarctica, I hope the public will pay attention to, and act on the global warming issue," said Wen. Wen also said he had thoroughly prepared for the trip, including a long distance trip in the Tibet in 2018. In September, 2017, he also completed an unsupported Arctic trek across Greenland. "The Arctic adventure should have been done with teamwork, but my instructors tried to cultivate my solo ability along the way," he said. As a member of China's mountaineering team, Wen has also climbed up Qomolangma, in 2007, 2012 and 2018 for scientific research. A documentary will be done to record this trek. But it will be different from others, according to Rao Zijun, director of the documentary. "The shooting team will follow Wen from Beijing to the starting point in Antarctica and wait for him at the end point. He will have to carry a camera and record the lonely journey by himself," Rao said. 4. What is Wen Xu going to do? A. He is going to realise his dream to cross Arctic. B. He is going to take a long walk with teamwork. C. He is going to meet the challenge to walk alone across Antarctica. D. He is going to fly from Beijing to Punta Arenas for business. 5. D. He hopes the public will focus on environmental problems. 6. Which is NOT mentioned in Wen's preparation for the trip? A. Several companies will provide satellite communication for him. B. An airplane will be ready for giving help if necessary. C. His instructors helped to develop his solo ability in exploration. D. He has already completed climbing up Qomolangma three times. 7. What makes the documentary in Paragraph 6 different from others? A. The shooting team will accompany him all the way to the end point. B. The documentary will be translated into several foreign languages. C. The long journey will be recorded only by Wen Xu himself. D. The director will shape Wen Xu to be a superhero. C People from all over the world filled the cruise ship. 8. Why did the host open the floor on the cruise ship? A. To encourage others to speak. B. To invite someone to enter the cabin. C. To invite people present to drink. D. To advise starting a dance party. 10. What can we know about the writer from the text? A. She was a professional singer. B. She sang two songs in the cafe at that time. C. She felt nervous the first time she sang in the cafe. D. She became famous all over the world after that sail. 11. Why did the writer feel honoured? A. She could sing songs with beautiful voice. B. She could do anything as she wished. C. She was popular among other passengers. D. She finally realised her secret dream. D You should see the photo. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Nishit Sharma takes a heavy bag everywhere he goes.
