根据第一个活动Poetry Exchange Workshop里有提到“Start National Poetry Month off right by heading to this monthly poetry workshop to listen to poets read their works, have your works critiqued and learn some new poetry writing skills. (参加这个每月一次的诗歌研讨会,听诗人朗诵他们的作品,让你的作品受到批评,学习一些新的诗歌写作技巧,开始全国诗歌月吧。)”,可知,一个想要改善写作技巧的诗歌爱好者可以参加该活动。故选A。
根据Whitman Poetry Readings部分中“The event is free like Poetry Exchange Workshop and is held in a quiet private back room at Coffee Tree Roasters.(该活动像诗歌交流工作坊一样免费,在咖啡树烘焙店的一个安静的私人房间里举行。)”以及Word Circus中“Free to students and the general public, this event showcases student writers as they present their works and encourages attendees to step up to the open mie and share as many as three of their own poems with the crowd.(这个活动对学生和公众免费,学生作家展示他们的作品,并鼓励与会者走上公开的舞台,与人群分享多达三首他们自己的诗歌。)”以及最后一个活动CMU Poetry Discussion Group中“Admission to this event is free but registration is encouraged.(参加这个活动是免费的,但鼓励注册。)”

When I first sat down to write my will (遗嘱), I expected it to be a simple act of paperwork, a practical task that adults are supposed to complete. Instead, it pulled me into an unexpected spiral of reflection. What do I truly want to leave behind? What traces of my life will matter when I am no longer here?
The questions felt heavy, but they carried a hidden gift. Writing about my possessions made me think not of objects, but of people—my children, my partner, my friends. Suddenly, I saw how every choice I make is connected to love. The books on my shelves, the photographs on the wall, even the recipes in my kitchen are not just things; they are extensions of care, memory, and joy.
In the middle of this process, I recognized that a will is less about death than about life. It is about pausing long enough to notice what I value most. The act of writing forced me to define the essence of what I hope my family remembers: not money or furniture, but kindness, curiosity, and the laughter we shared.
I felt lighter after finishing the document. Instead of fear, I carried gratitude. I saw my life not as incomplete but as perpetual, filled with small opportunities to live with intention. If facing death teaches anything, it is that the present moment is our most generous gift. Every day, I can choose to pass on patience, love, and courage.
What began as a legal form turned into a reminder: life is fragile, but it is also abundant. And if I am mindful, then even in the ordinary rhythm of my days, I am already leaving behind what matters most.
4. What realization did the author have while writing her will?
A. Writing a will was easier than she had expected.
B. She owned more valuable property than she thought.
C. Objects in her life were deeply tied to people and memories.
D. Her family members were not interested in material possessions.
5. What can be inferred about the author’s attitude toward death?
A. She avoided thinking about it. B. She feared it even more than before.
C. She decided never to discuss it again. D. She became calmer and more grateful.
6. What does the underlined word “perpetual” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Aging B. Dying C. Lasting D. Confusing
7. Which proverb best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A. Actions speak louder than words.
B. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
C. You can’t take it with you when you go.
D. Love and the present matter most.
C 5. D 6. C 7. D
根据第二段“Writing about my possessions made me think not of objects, but of people— my children, my partner, my friends. Suddenly, I saw how every choice I make is connected to love. The books on my shelves, the photographs on the wall, even the recipes in my kitchen are not just things; they are extensions of care, memory, and joy.(写下自己的物品,让我想到的不是物件本身,而是身边的人 —— 我的孩子、伴侣与朋友。突然间我意识到,自己做的每一个选择都与爱紧密相连。书架上的书、墙上的照片,甚至厨房里的食谱,都不只是寻常物件;它们是关怀、回忆与喜悦的延伸。)”可知,作者在写遗嘱时意识到生活中的物品与人和回忆紧密相连。故选C项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“I felt lighter after finishing the document. Instead of fear, I carried gratitude. (完成文件后,我感觉更轻松了。心中没有了恐惧,取而代之的是感激。)”可知,作者对死亡的态度变得更平静且充满感激。故选D项。
【6题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“I saw my life not as incomplete but as perpetual, filled with small opportunities to live with intention. (我不再认为我的人生是不完整的,而是perpetual,充满了有意识地生活的微小机会。)”并结合最后一段“And if I am mindful, then even in the ordinary rhythm of my days, I am already leaving behind what matters most.(只要我用心感知,即便在日复一日的平凡节奏里,也早已留下了那些最为珍贵的东西。)”
根据第二段“Suddenly, I saw how every choice I make is connected to love.(突然间我意识到,自己做的每一个选择,都与爱息息相关。)”、第四段“If facing death teaches anything, it is that the present moment is our most generous gift. (若直面死亡能让人领悟什么,那便是当下这一刻,才是我们所拥有的最珍贵的馈赠。)”及最后一段“And if I am mindful, then even in the ordinary rhythm of my days, I am already leaving behind what matters most.(只要我用心感知,即便在日复一日的平凡节奏里,也早已留下了那些最为珍贵的东西。)”

Have you wondered how your body knows when to wake up or why you need to go to the toilet less at night? Circadian rhythms use the sun to help your body to run on time.
“Circadian rhythms” is another name for body clocks. They are controlled by a small part of the brain called the hypothalamus (下丘脑) and they let the body know when to do things like eat, sleep and go to the toilet. Circadian rhythms repeat every 24 hours and almost every living thing has them. They tell animals the best time to hunt, for example, and plants when to flower. Circadian rhythms are influenced by light. When the sun shines through the window in the morning your body clock tells you it’s time to wake up. When it’s dark your body feels sleepy.
Good-quality sleep lets your brain recharge and replace important hormones (荷尔蒙) to keep you healthy. Not listening to your body clock, such as going to bed late, can mess with your sleep cycle and make you feel tired and easy to get angry the next day. Circadian rhythms also affect energy, digestion (消化) and body temperature. In fact, scientists have found that they help our whole body run smoothly. Swathi Yadlapalli is a scientist who studies how people grow and develop. She says, “Almost every part in the human body has a circadian clock.”
Circadian rhythms are written into people’s genes (基因), which are the body's instructions for how to develop and grow. We can’t change them but we can listen to what they are telling us. The Sleep Charity, which helps people to sleep better, recommends sticking to regular sleep patterns. So whether you are used to staying up late, or getting up early, try going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. It also suggests getting lots of natural light in the morning. Even if the sky is cloudy and grey, the natural light can reset your body clock and make you feel more awake.
8. Which part of the brain controls circadian rhythms?
A. The hormone system. B. The hypothalamus. C. The digestive system. D. The gene center.
9. What is the function of circadian rhythms?
A. They help plants get sunlight more easily.
B. They regulate the hypothalamus to work faster.
C. They control the movement of main parts in the body.
D. They tell living things when to perform certain activities.
10. What can be inferred about natural light?
A. It makes people feel sleepy at night.
B. It has no effect on hormone production.
C. It sometimes influences circadian rhythms greatly.
D. It helps reset the body clock even on cloudy days.
11. What does the author suggest doing?
A. Stopping staying up too late. B. Getting up early the next day.
C. Having a fixed sleep routine daily. D. Listening to music before sleeping.
B 9. D 10. D 11. C
根据第二段中的“They are controlled by a small part of the brain called the hypothalamus and they let the body when to do things like eat, sleep and go to the toilet.(它们由大脑中一个名为下丘脑的小部分控制,让身体知道何时该进行进食、睡觉、上厕所等活动)”可知,控制昼夜节律的是大脑中的下丘脑。
根据第二段中的“They tell animals the best time to hunt, for example, and plants when to flower.(例如,它们会告诉动物最佳的捕猎时间,告诉植物何时开花)”可知,昼夜节律的作用是告知生物何时进行特定活动。
根据第四段中的“Even if the sky is cloudy and grey, the natural light can reset your body clock and make you feel more awake.(即使天空阴沉多云,自然光也能重置你的生物钟,让你感觉更清醒)”可知,即使在阴天,自然光依然能发挥重置生物钟的作用,由此可推断自然光有时对昼夜节律影响很大。
根据第四段中的“The Sleep Charity, which helps people to sleep better, recommends sticking to regular sleep patterns. So whether you are used to staying up late, or getting up early, try going to bed and getting up at the same time every day.(致力于帮助人们改善睡眠的睡眠慈善机构建议保持规律的睡眠模式。所以无论你习惯熬夜还是早起,都尝试每天在同一时间睡觉和起床吧)”可知,作者建议人们养成每天固定的睡眠习惯。故选C项。

My studies once showed that students perform better when they take notes by hand than when they use laptops. Before I knew it, those studies were used as good reasons for laptop bans (禁止) in classrooms in the U.S. I received a lot of emails blaming (责备) me for such ideas. The fact is that I don’t actually support laptop bans, and never have. In fact, I don’t even ban laptops in my own classes.
In the research, we asked students to watch TED Talks and had them take notes either on laptops or with a pen and paper. Students using laptops recorded the talks nearly with every word, while students who took handwritten notes could not; they just took notes in their own words. Writing by hand required students to understand and summarize the talk. And deeper processing (加工) of the information led to improved learning. As a result, students in this case get higher points on tests.
My findings came out Teachers around the country soon started banning laptops in their classes. But they didn’t know what actually made learning difficult was the mindless recording of a lecture. Laptops just allowed students to take notes more quickly.
Like most technology, laptops are not universally helpful or harmful in class. Whether they are helpful or harmful depends on the aim. The value of a laptop in the classroom depends on the goal of a lesson plan, the nature of the text, the kind of students being taught, etc.
So can laptops be used in the classroom? If a lesson requires exact quotes, then laptops are excellent. But if the goal is conceptual (概念的) understanding, they will produce the exactly opposite results. Don’t forget the situation when deciding whether or not to allow laptops in your class. All in all, the answer to the question is that it depends.
12. Why did the author receive many blaming emails?
A. He banned laptops in classes. B. His studies supported laptop bans.
C. His research results let people down. D. Schools used his studies to ban laptops.
13. What was the key difference between laptop notes and handwritten notes in the research?
A. Laptop notes were much more detailed.
B. Handwritten notes bettered thinking ability.
C. Handwritten notes recorded every word in need.
D. Laptop notes were written in students’ own words.
14. What did the author think made learning difficult in the case of laptop use?
A. The technology of laptops itself. B. Students’ improper use of laptops.
C. The speed of taking notes with laptops. D. The design of lesson plans for laptop users.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Handwritten notes are better for students’ learning than laptop notes.
B. Laptop bans in classrooms are unreasonable and should be prohibited.
C. The use of laptops in classrooms should be decided based on situations.
D. Research on note-taking methods helps improve teaching achievements.
D 13. B 14. B 15. C
根据第一段“Before I knew it, those studies were used as good reasons for laptop bans (禁止) in classrooms in the U.S. I received a lot of emails blaming (责备) me for such ideas. (我还没反应过来,这些研究就被用作美国课堂禁止使用笔记本电脑的充分理由。我收到了很多邮件,都因为这些想法而责备我)”可知,作者收到很多责备邮件是因为学校用他的研究来禁止笔记本电脑。故选D。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Students using laptops recorded the talks nearly with every word, while students who took handwritten notes could not; they just took notes in their own words. Writing by hand required students to understand and summarize the talk. And deeper processing (加工) of the information led to improved learning. (使用笔记本电脑的学生几乎逐字记录了演讲内容,而手写笔记的学生则无法做到;他们只是用自己的话做笔记。手写要求学生理解并总结演讲内容,而对信息的更深层次加工则有助于提升学习效果)”可知,研究中笔记本电脑记笔记和手写记笔记的关键区别是手写笔记能提升思考能力,因为需要理解和总结。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“But they didn’t know what actually made learning difficult was the mindless recording of a lecture. Laptops just allowed students to take notes more quickly. (但他们不知道,真正导致学习困难的是对讲座内容的盲目记录,笔记本电脑只是让学生记笔记的速度更快了而已)”可知,作者认为是学生对笔记本电脑的不当使用(盲目记录)导致学习困难。故选B。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Don’t forget the situation when deciding whether or not to allow laptops in your class. All in all, the answer to the question is that it depends. (在决定是否允许学生在课堂上使用笔记本电脑时,不要忽视具体场景。总而言之,这个问题的答案是“视情况而定”)”可知,文章主要观点是课堂上使用笔记本电脑应根据情况决定。故选C。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Meetings are a key way to get yourself noticed. When you “hold your own” in a meeting, you show that you’re confident, and this can mark you out as a future leader. ____16____ So no matter how many great ideas you have in your head, they’re useless to you, your team, and your organization until you express them. Here is the guide to getting your voice heard at meetings.
Come prepared. Have some talking points planned out before you express your idea. Practice with a trusted colleague who can help you iron out any problems. Imagine the possible reactions people might have to your idea. ____17____ What are some questions that might come up in response to your idea? How will you answer those questions?
Get to the point. Engage people in the main points of the idea, then dive into the details. When you start strong you’ll give them a reason to continue listening. ____18____ people are overwhelmed with numerous things to do at work. While the eight second attention span may be a myth, people certainly appreciate brevity (简短) now more than ever.
____19____ People lose interest when they’re listening to a long talk. Invite them to be a part of your idea. Organize your argument in a way that makes them want to ask questions and learn more. When you give them time to ask questions, they’ll be more interested, attentive, and engaged. The more you can engage them, the more they’ll truly listen.
Have confidence in yourself. The more you believe in yourself, the more that shows through when you express an idea. People can hear the confidence in your voice when you speak and see it in your body language. If you allow yourself to think that you’re nervous, you’ll convince yourself to be. Fight nerves by taking a few moments to stand in a power pose. ____20____
A. Time is precious.
B. Make it a conversation.
C. Speak with elegance and intention.
D. Unluckily, your colleagues can’t read minds.
E. It gives you time to quiet your mind and focus.
F. Look at it from as many other perspectives as possible.
G. This is how you show value and make a positive impression.
D 17. F 18. A 19. B 20. E

The first time we set eyes on “Big Red”, Dad, Mum and I were on our way home. As we passed the Eaton’s department store’s window, we stopped as usual to have a look and bought something that we wanted. The beautifully decorated window display held the best toys ever. Pretty toys all lay beneath a surprisingly fantastic dress. Mum’s eyes were glued to its shining red satin (缎子). “My goodness,” she whispered. “Look at that!” Then, Mum looked down at her own. Mum was forever doing chores, washing laundry and working in the garden. So she always wore house dresses and an apron (围裙) to protect the front.
“What a silly dress!” She shook her head. “Who would want such a big dress?” As we continued down the street, Mum turned her head for one more look. “My goodness! They should display something a person could use!”
Mother’s Day was nearing, and the red dress was soon forgotten. Mum was not the one to spend money on items that were not practical. Choosing a gift for Mother’s Day for her was quite hard. When Dad and I asked, she thought carefully, and then asked for some tea towels, facecloths or a new basin.
On our last trip to town before Mother’s Day, we were driving up Main Street when mother suddenly shouted in surprise: “Look!” She pointed as Dad drove past Eaton’s. “That big red dress is gone,” she said in disbelief. “Who’d be fool enough to buy such a dress?” Mum questioned, shaking her head. I was almost certain that I noticed a trace of eagerness in her voice.
“Why not earn the money myself for this stunning red dress?” I thought to myself. However, I was stuck — which shop would hire an 8-grade student who had no working experience at all? Feeling confused, I approached Dad for his opinion. Dad told me that “Believe in yourself, my sweetie, maybe you could give Eaton’s department store a try.”

Paragraph 2:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With determination, I went to the store and asked if they needed a salesgirl. The manager, a kind middle-aged lady, looked at me doubtfully but then smiled warmly. “Well, we usually don’t hire such young girls, but I can see your enthusiasm. Let’s give it a try,” she said. I was overjoyed and promised to do my best. The days passed quickly, and I worked hard, learning about the products and helping customers. Every penny I earned was carefully saved for that stunning red dress. Finally, after weeks of hard work, I had enough money.
On the morning of Mother’s Day, Mum received a large box. She opened it with curiosity, and her eyes widened in surprise as she pulled out the beautiful red dress. “Oh my goodness, where did you get this?” she exclaimed. I stood there, smiling, and said, “I earned it for you, Mum. I wanted you to have something special for Mother’s Day.” She hugged me tightly, tears streaming down her face. “This is the best gift I’ve ever received,” she whispered. That day, Mum wore the red dress with pride, and we all felt the warmth and love that a simple dress could bring. It was a Mother’s Day we would never forget.

My findings came out. Teachers around the country soon started banning laptops in their classes.

C Speak with elegance and intention.
