On the morning of the sale, Max and his dad got up early. While the muffins were baking in the oven, Max played with a soccer ball in the backyard. After a while, Max’s dad went to get the muffins. When he came back with the muffins, he looked sad.
“The muffins should be golden brown,” said Max. “They haven’t cooked at all.”
“The oven didn’t get hot. It must be broken,” Max’s dad said.
“What am I going to do?” Max said. “The bake sale is in a few hours.” Max angrily kicked his soccer ball. It rolled into a lemon tree. Max looked up and had an idea.
A few hours later, Max and his dad were carrying a huge cooler of homemade lemonade across the soccer field. They passed tables filled with cookies, brownies, cakes and homemade bread. The bake sale had already started.
