一、情态动词(Modal Verbs)
情态动词can和could都可用于表示能力、请求允许和给予许可,以及提出请求和议。例如:
Can you speak English? 你会说英语吗?(能力)
He could sing very well when he was young. 他年轻的时候歌唱得很好。(能力)
A. Can I put some flowers on the table? 我能在桌上摆些花吗?(请求允许)
B. Yes, of course you can. 可以,当然可以。(表示许可)
Could I use your mobile phone? 我可以用你的手机吗?(请求允许)
Could you help me hang up the photos? 你能帮我把这些照片挂起来吗?(提出请求)

二、现在进行时(Present Continuous Tense)
1. 现在进行时的意义
(1)表示现在(说话时)正在进行的动作或存在的状态。例如:
The students are listening to the teacher.
He is sleeping now.
(2)也可表示当前一段时间或现阶段正在进行的动作或存在的状态。例如:
We are working on a farm today.
I’m reading a history book this month.
2. 现在进行时的构成
现在进行时是由助动词be (am / is / are) 加动词-ing形式构成的。
ving的构成形式:
1)一般情况下直接加-ing,如 study – studying
2) 以辅音字母加不发音的e结尾的,去e加-ing,如,make – making.
3 ) 重度闭音节词,如末尾只有一个辅音字母,先双写该辅音字母,再加-ing.如,swim – swimming.
常用的时间状语有:now, look, listen 等

三、一般过去时(Simple Past Tense)
1. 一般过去时的意义
(1)表示过去某个时间或某一段时间内发生的动作或存在的状态,常和表示过去的时间状语连用,如yesterday、last night、in 1990、two days ago等。例如:
He got up early yesterday. I visited my grandparents last week.
(2)也可表示过去经常或反复发生的动作,常和often、always等表示频度的状语连用。例如:
He always went to work by bus last year.

2. 一般过去时的构成 主语+ 动词的过去式。
过去式的构成分为规则变化和不规则变化(见不规则变化表)。
规则变化主要是加ed,具体变化如下:
1)一般情况加ed, 如,stay - stayed
2)词尾有e的加d,如,like – liked
3)重度闭音节词,如末尾只有一个辅音字母,先双写该辅音字母,再加-ed.如, stop - stopped
4)以辅音字母加y结尾的,先改y为i,再加-ed. 如, study - studied

变疑问句,否定句时,当谓语是行为动词时,要用助动词did,可以总结为如下公式:
一般疑问句:Did + 主语+动词原形+---?如,
Did they live in Beijing last year? Yes, they did. No, they didn’t.
否定句:主语+didn’t+动词原形+---. They didn’t go to bed until 10:00 yesterday night.
