What must they do to meet the requirements? A. Register online at least 1 day in advance. B. Have a parent or guardian accompany them C. Provide a certificate of basic hiking ability. D. Book as part of a group of 8 or more people. 2. Which item does the tour provide for free? A Binoculars. B. Insect repellent. C. Hiking poles. D. Vegetarian lunch. 3. What can we infer about the tour from the passage? A. It is cancelled immediately if it rains slightly. B. It requires some professional hiking skills C. It offers discounts for individual bookings. D. It helps visitors learn about rainforest ecology. B The straight, strict hallways of Welton Academy felt full of old traditions and rules that everyone had to follow. John Keating, an English teacher with a mysterious and enthusiastic manner, walked into the school like a breath of fresh air in a boring room. Just by being there, he questioned the school’s long-held customs. Instead of merely standing at the front of the classroom lecturing on Shakespeare’s poetry or grammar, Keating had a unique way of making the words come alive. In his first class, he walked into the room, a twinkle in his eye, and led the boys out into the hallway. Pointing at the old, faded pictures of former students, he said, “Carpe diem (抓住当下), boys. Seize the day. Make your lives extraordinary. These men were once just like you, with dreams and potential. Don’t let this place bury your ambitions.” Keating’s secret haven (港湾) “Whispers of the Bard” — a magical spot hidden from school authorities — was where he gathered students outdoors. Reciting poetry with great enthusiasm, he told them poetry is more than rhymes and meters: it’s the soul’s language, expressing our deepest desires and wildest dreams. Keating encouraged students to find their own voice in great poets’ works. For Neil Perry, who secretly loved the stage, Keating was a guiding star-he recognized Neil’s potential, urged him not to let his father dim his passion, and helped him practice lines to express emotions. With Keating’s consistent guidance, Neil grew more confident, daring to surpass (超出) his father’s expectations. Shy Todd Anderson, overshadowed by his brother, had a talent for uncovering literature’s deeper meaning-something Keating noticed. Urging him to “open your treasure chest of a mind” and share his valuable interpretations without fear of standing out, Keating’s encouragement helped Todd come out of his shell and find the courage to speak up. Keating’s encouragement was like a gentle wind that blew through the lives of these students, fanning the flames of their dreams and giving them the strength to pursue what they truly loved. 4. Why did Keating take the boys to the hallway in his first class? A. To let the boys relax after boring lessons and enjoy the fresh air. B. To avoid lecturing on the boring Shakespeare’s poetry and grammar. C. To encourage the boys to seize the moment and fulfill their potential. D. To show the boys the school’s history and former academic achievements. 5. What can we infer about “Whispers of the Bard” from the passage? A. It is a stage where Neil practices his acting skills. B. It is a classroom controlled by school authorities. C. It is a library with many classic poetry collections. D. It is a secret place for students to learn poetry freely. 6 Why does the author compare Keating’s encouragement to “a gentle wind”? A. Because it was unexpected and strong. B. Because it only affected a few students. C. Because it was soft and had a lasting influence. D. Because it was like wind and disappeared quickly. 7. Which of the following best describes John Keating as a teacher? A. Passionate and inspiring. B. Strict and stubborn. C. Quiet and reserved. D. Traditional and conservative. C Many of us develop strong attachments to particular colors, but purple brings out the most focused and enthusiastic devotion. What makes purple so distinctive? Part of the answer comes from optics (光学). Violet light has the shortest wavelength on the spectrum (光谱) of visible light, right next to the unseen ultraviolet (紫外光), which only our skin detects. With its short wavelength and high frequency, the color purple contains the highest energy of all visible light. Symbolically, we can think of purple as the border between the visible and the invisible. Evolution also favors purple. As hunters and gatherers, early humans were drawn to variations of purple for the purpose of detecting eatable ripe fruit against the backdrop of green leaves. Purple’s significance stems from these physical and natural traits, but our love for it goes beyond science. Robert N. Kraft, a cognitive psychology professor, analyzed interviews with purple lovers, along with experiments and cultural evidence. A key reason is that purple looks good on them-all interviewees noted their purple outfits receive admirations. Purple offers many combination possibilities, with deep purple on one end and lighter lavenders on the other. More than half the people interviewed extolled the “great variety” of colors to choose from, and they enjoy choosing different shades to wear, while staying in the color world of purple. Studies looking at personal characteristics suggest that people who love purple appreciate freshness, enjoy being artistic, and are comfortable taking innovative approaches to the challenges of everyday life. However, as noted by color researcher Andrew Eliot, we are only at the beginning of strict experimentation on color and psychological functioning. The primary way people express their love of purple is by wearing it, with every manner of clothing and accessories, including coats, shirts, pants, dresses, jewelry and computer bags. But this love is expressed in other ways, as well. Three of the people interviewed said that when they moved to a different house, they made themselves feel at home by painting at least one wall of their new house purple. 8. What was the reason for early humans’ interest in purple, as stated in the text? A. It helped them survive in extreme natural conditions. B. It allowed them to show their artistic side in daily life C. It enabled them to find food easily among green plants. D. It helped them sense ultraviolet light through their skin. 9. What can we infer about people who love purple from the passage? A. They all paint their new houses purple when moving. B. They pay little attention to others’ opinions on their outfits. C. They prefer to wear dark purple rather than light lavender. D. They are more likely to try creative ways to solve problems. 10. What does the underlined word “extolled” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Praised. B. Ignored. C. Criticized. D. Admitted. 11. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The historical development of purple’s popularity. B. The reasons why purple is particularly loved by people. C. The differences between purple and other favorite colors. D. The scientific experiments on purple and human psychology D AI models may be a bit like humans, after all. A new study by the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University reveals that large language models trained on popular but low-quality social media content can suffer from a type of “brain rot”, which is familiar to anyone who’s scrolled X or TikTok for too long. “We live in an era where information grows faster than our attention spans. And much of the information is designed to get clicks, not to share truth or depth,” says Junyuan Hong, an assistant professor at the National University of Singapore. Hong and his team fed different types of text to two open-source large language models during pretraining. They tested the models with a mix of widely shared social media posts with exaggerated language like “wow”, “look”, or “today only”. The researchers then used several different evaluation standards to measure the impact of this “junk” social media content on two open-source models. The models trained on junk text experienced a kind of AI brain rot — with cognitive decline including reduced reasoning abilities and degraded memory. According to two assessment methods, the models also became less consistent with ethical (道德的) standards and more inclined to show psychopathic (精神错乱的) characteristics. These results are similar to research on humans, showing that low-quality online content has a harmful effect on people’s cognitive abilities. Many model developers might think social media posts are a good source of training data. “Training content may look like expanding the amount of data,” Hong explains. “But it can silently damage reasoning abilities, ethical awareness, and the ability to focus on long contexts.” The findings also suggest that AI systems built around social platforms might suffer from quality control issues if user-generated posts are used in training without an eye toward the integrity of the posts. Hong warns that AI-generated low-quality content spreading on social media taints the data for future models. Their research shows such “brain rot” cannot be fully reversed by subsequent clean training. 12. What does the “brain rot” in the study mainly refer to for AI models? A. Cognitive decline and less consistent ethics. B. Inability to deal with social media content. C. Failure to produce logical and connected text. D. Tendency to copy exaggerated language from social media. 13. What is the main finding of the study mentioned in the passage? A. AI models trained on social media content become more popular. B. Low-quality social media content causes cognitive decline in AI models. C. Open-source AI models are more likely to be influenced by junk text. D. Clean training can completely fix AI models “brain rot” problem. 14 What does the passage suggest about the future of AI training? A. Clean training data will no longer be needed for AI models. B. There will be stricter quality checks on user-generated training data. C. Developers will stop using any social media content for training. D. AI models will be trained only on academic or professional content. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. How to Reverse AI Cognitive Decline Through Clean Training B. The Impact of Online Information on Human Cognitive Abilities C. Social Media: A Valuable Data Source for Large Language Models D. She hadn’t played there for a whole week because a bee had stung her, and the memory still made her heart race. She took a deep breath and finally opened the door, ready to face her fear. As soon as she stepped outside, a big bumblebee (大黄蜂), even bigger than her thumb, appeared. Its yellow and black body was covered with soft, fuzzy hair that shone in the sunlight, and its wings made a low humming sound as it hovered near the flowers. Ella stepped outside carefully, holding her breath and hoping the bee wouldn’t notice her. After just three steps, the bee flew straight toward her. It moved quickly but didn’t seem aggressive. It hovered in the air right in front of her nose, only a few inches away. Ella’s heart beat fast. She stepped back and crouched down. “Please, don’t sting (蛰) me!” she cried. Ella wanted to run, but her legs wouldn’t move. To her astonishment, the bee replied, “I am a guard bee.” Ella was so surprised that the bee could speak that she momentarily forgot her fear. “What are you guarding?” she asked cautiously. “I just want to play on my swing.” The bumblebee hovered around Ella’s head and said, “I’m not stopping you from going anywhere. I’m here to guard you.” Ella wasn’t convinced. “Last week, a bee stung me for no reason. I really wish you wouldn’t follow me. What if you hurt me by accident?” she said, with her uneasy eyes fixed on the insect. “That must have been a terrible mistake.” the bee said, landing on a nearby leaf. “We only sting when we feel truly threatened. I promise. I’m here to protect you. not to harm you.” Just then, a big dog ran into Ella’s yard, barking loudly and running toward Ella. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Watching the dog run away, Ella felt very thankful for her little guardian. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力测试卷 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 46. D. The scientific experiments on purple and human psychology 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“As hunters and gatherers, early humans were drawn to variations of purple for the purpose of detecting eatable ripe fruit against the backdrop of green leaves.(作为狩猎采集者,早期人类被各种紫色所吸引,目的是在绿叶的背景下发现可食用的成熟果实)”可知,早期人类对紫色感兴趣是因为紫色能使他们在绿色植物中更容易找到食物。 根据第四段中“Studies looking at personal characteristics suggest that people who love purple appreciate freshness, enjoy being artistic, and are comfortable taking innovative approaches to the challenges of everyday life.(研究个人特征的研究表明,喜欢紫色的人欣赏新鲜事物,喜欢艺术,并且乐于以创新的方式应对日常生活中的挑战)”可推知,喜欢紫色的人乐于以创新的方式应对日常生活中的挑战,所以更有可能尝试用创造性的方法解决问题。 根据划线词所在句“More than half the people interviewed extolled the “great variety” of colors to choose from, and they enjoy choosing different shades to wear, while staying in the color world of purple.(超过一半的受访者extolled可供选择的“多种多样”的颜色,他们喜欢选择不同的色调来穿戴,同时仍保持在紫色的色彩世界里)”可知,划线词下文描述他们享受选择不同色调,这反映了他们对颜色多样性的积极态度。 故选A项。 D AI models may be a bit like humans, after all. 14. What does the passage suggest about the future of AI training? “Please don’t sting (蛰) me!” she cried. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just then, a big dog ran into Ella’s yard, barking loudly and running toward Ella. Memories of the sharp sting and the burning pain made her hands tremble. Ella was too scared to move, her old fears rushing back. But remembering the bee’s promise, she stood her ground. The brave bumblebee immediately flew into the dog’s face, buzzing fiercely. Confused and startled by the persistent insect, the dog eventually turned and fled. Watching the dog run away, Ella felt very thankful for her little guardian. All the tension in her shoulders melted away. All her fear vanished. A bright smile spread across her face and she gently held out her hand. “You kept your promise,” she said. The bee landed softly on her finger, its hum a friendly reply. In that moment, Ella conquered her fear. More importantly, she had gained an unexpected friendship built on trust and a kept promise. She learned that courage is built when someone keeps their word, and friendship begins when we trust enough to overcome our fears. 词汇激活 行为类 ①记得:remember/recall ②消失:vanish/fade away ③逃跑:flee/ run away ④获得:gain/obtain 情绪类 ①困惑的:confused/puzzled ②害怕:fear/dread 【点睛】【高分句型1】Ella was too scared to move, her old fears rushing back. 2】She learned that courage is built when someone keeps their word, and friendship begins when we trust enough to overcome our fears.
