I was disappointed to read your recent email expressing your dislike for traveling. While I understand your preference for staying at home and playing games, I want to shed some light on the value of travel. Travel is much more than just seeing new places; it’s an eye-opening experience that broadens our horizons. Just think of the countless historical landmarks and cultural artifacts you encountered during your European trip. These experiences help us understand the world better and appreciate its diversity. For instance, when you visited the Eiffel Tower, didn’t you feel a sense of wonder and excitement? That same feeling is what travel is all about. It’s about experiencing new things, meeting new people, and learning about different ways of life. Moreover, travel is a great way to de-stress and recharge. Getting away from the familiar environment and routine can rejuvenate our minds and bodies. I know you mentioned you would rather stay at home and play games, but I believe the benefits of travel far outweigh the comforts of home. I hope my words resonate with you, and maybe even inspire you to embrace travel more fully in the future. Remember, the world is a big place full of history, culture, and beauty waiting to be discovered. Para 1:  On the day of Sam’s birthday, he went to school and found his classroom in total darkness(漆黑). He was confused and a bit scared. Just as he was about to turn on the light, he heard a loud “Surprise!” All his classmates, led by Jim, jumped out from their hiding places, holding balloons and presents. The classroom was beautifully decorated with colorful streamers and a big “Happy Birthday Sam” sign. Sam was completely taken aback. He never expected this. Jim walked up to him with a big smile and said, “We knew you thought you couldn't have a party, but we wanted to give you a special one.” Para 2: Tears came from Sam’s eyes and there was a bright smile on his face. He was deeply touched by his friends’ thoughtfulness. “Thank you all so much! This is the best birthday gift ever,” Sam said with a choked voice. They then started the party. They sang, danced, and ate delicious cake together. Sam realized that even though his parents were facing difficulties, he still had his wonderful friends who cared about him. This birthday became one of the most unforgettable and special days in his life, filled with love and joy from his friends. B Sandoval, who comes from Los Angeles, has traveled and filmed in over 50 countries across seven continents and now lives in China. “In 2008, tired of my studio work in the U.S, I came to China, with the hope of trying something different for myself.” he said. Sandoval is a professional photographer and he went to Chengdu in Southwest China to live in October 2008 and has traveled throughout the country since then. To him, Chengdu is the capital of a laid-back lifestyle. He was delighted to see that residents, dressed stylishly or comfortably, strolled in the streets “as slowly as snails”. Almost a “walking encyclopedia” of Chengdu, Sandoval covered every corner of Chengdu and recorded Chengduese and their lives with his camera, listening to the sound of mahjong being played and music from traditional stringed instruments. He also goes from place to place with his heavy travel kit. The various culture and vast, beautiful land has kept him in China much longer than he had planned in the beginning. He remembers a wide range of adventures like exploring a local vineyard and local wine in Yinchuan City, a riding performance by a Mongolian ethnic group in the Shuidonggou Horse Riding Show, and then the totally different experience of visiting the Hainan Free Trade Port in the south. He thinks he has done a lot in “this beautiful and vast country” with his “travel photos”. “I try to show people the beauty of where I go. I try to inspire them to travel and go to places. I’m hoping to do more international work,” he said. 24.Why did Sandoval come to China in 2008? A.He was not good at studio work in the U. S. B.He wanted to seek for something different. C.He had a preference for international work. D.He was attracted by China’s natural scenery. 25.What does the underlined word “laid-back” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A.Fast-paced. B.Healthy. C.Leisurely. D.Simple. 26.Sandoval’s experiences around China are mentioned in Paragraph 4 to show . A.his fascination for Chinese culture B.his superb photo technique C.his desire for new careers D.his diverse hobbies 27.What is the writing purpose of this passage? A.To praise Sandoval for his studio work in the U. S. B.To facilitate the development of tourism in Chengdu. C.To call on readers to take up photography as a hobby. D.To introduce the experience of a foreign photographer in China. C A nutrient-rich (营养丰富) diet with few added sugars may slow rates of biological aging in women, a new research suggests. Scientists found that middle-aged women who ate more foods packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (抗氧化物) had “younger-looking” cells than those who had less healthy diets. They judged whether a cell was young by looking at methyl (甲基) groups, on the surface of DNA. The pattern of these methyl groups changes as we age, which is believed to increase cellular aging. “Sugars are linked to worsened health and early disease possibly more than any other food factor.” co-author Elissa Epel, a professor at the University of California, said in a statement. Epel and her colleagues analyzed food records of 342 women over three days. The team then scored each woman’s diet based on how closely it followed various established diets: While nutrient-rich diets were tied to slowed aging, added sugars seemed to control the effect. In the study, women who consumed higher amounts of added sugars showed signs of faster cellular aging compared to others, even if they ate other healthy diets. “Added sugars” refer to sugars that are added to food during production such as those in sugared drinks and baked goods, as opposed to the naturally occurring sugars found in milk, fruits and vegetables. The new study is one of the first to demonstrate a link between added sugar consumption and cellular aging, the authors said. The team calculated the participants’ ages by looking at the DNA methylation of cells with samples. These data showed the links between diet and cellular aging, but they were only a tip of the iceberg. In fact, more research is needed to assess how following these diets might affect aging in the long run. 28.What can we learn from the study? A.A balanced diet is linked to people’s health. B.A low-sugar healthy diet may delay women’s aging. C.The sugary food has no effect on the women’s body. D.The added sugars slow down people’s biological aging. 29.Which of the following food may make cells age faster according to paragraph 3? A.Pure milk. B.Chinese cabbage. C.Birthday cakes. D.Fresh watermelons. 30.How did Epel and her colleagues conduct their study? A.By giving an example. B.By introducing a concept. C.By making a comparison. D.By raising some questions. 31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A.The study lacks further support. B.There are data errors in the study. C.People’s age can be changed by diet. D.Sugary diet affects health in the long run. D Travel is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get, especially when using a mystery box plane ticket. Earlier this year, mystery box travel became trendy among China’s young people. In normal trips, people often plan their vacations well in advance. After buying a mystery box at an attractively low price — usually 100 or 200 yuan — the travelers using this method will select their departure airport and then receive several destinations to choose from. After the destination is decided, their trip begins. Liao Liangyu, 16, has turned his eagerness to go on a mystery box trip into reality. He took a mystery box trip with a couple of friends months ago. It started when one of them got a mystery box ticket to Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province. Surprisingly, Liao happened to get Changsha too. Right before their departure, a friend told Liao that Changsha was a super hyped-up (被炒作的) Internet-famous site. But he still decided to go and see it for himself. “My biggest discovery is that Changsha is a city full of contrasts,” Liao explained to China Daily, “You can see tall buildings and low houses in the same view.” Since the destination options include many less popular cities, travel mystery boxes also bring economic benefits to them. For example, Dehong city is a beautiful city in Yunnan province yet has few visitors due to a lack of promotion. After it was included as a mystery box travel destination, however, Dehong city has gained a lot of attention and is now thought of as a popular destination for tourism. But even so, a large number of people feel disappointed with travel mystery boxes because they can face many problems after buying one, such as improper travel times, sudden flight cancellations, or even challenges with refunds (退款). Sun Weili from Ctrip suggested in an interview with Haibao News that visitors should select reliable platforms and sign contracts (合同) to ensure their interests. 32.What is the main attraction of a mystery box plane ticket? A.To choose dependable platforms and sign contracts to ensure interests. B.To avoid mystery box travel and plan vacations in advance. C.To only choose destinations that are well-known. 根据第一段“In 2008, tired of my studio work in the U.S, I came to China, with the hope of trying something different for myself.(2008年,我厌倦了在美国的工作室工作,来到中国,希望为自己尝试一些不同的事情。)” 根据第三段“He was delighted to see that residents, dressed stylishly or comfortably, strolled in the streets ‘as slowly as snails’.(他很高兴地看到,居民们穿着时髦或舒适的衣服,‘像蜗牛一样慢’地在街上漫步。)” 根据第四段“The various culture and vast, beautiful land has kept him in China much longer than he had planned in the beginning.(多样的文化和广阔美丽的土地让他在中国停留的时间比最初计划的要长得多。)” 故选A。 27. 通读全文,根据第二段“Sandoval is a professional photographer and he went to Chengdu in Southwest China to live in October 2008 and has traveled throughout the country since then.(Sandoval是一名专业摄影师,他于2008年10月来到中国西南部的成都生活,此后游历了全国各地。)” C A nutrient-rich (营养丰富) diet with few added sugars may slow rates of biological aging in women, a new research suggests. 根据第一段中“A nutrient-rich (营养丰富) diet with few added sugars may slow rates of biological aging in women, a new research suggests.(一项新的研究表明,富含营养、添加糖较少的饮食可能会减缓女性的生物衰老速度。)” 根据第三段中““Added sugars” refer to sugars that are added to food during production such as those in sugared drinks and baked goods, as opposed to the naturally occurring sugars found in milk, fruits and vegetables.(“添加糖”是指在生产过程中添加到食物中的糖,如含糖饮料和烘焙食品中的糖,而不是牛奶、水果和蔬菜中天然存在的糖。)” 根据第三段中“Epel and her colleagues analyzed food records of 342 women over three days. The team then scored each woman’s diet based on how closely it followed various established diets: While nutrient-rich diets were tied to slowed aging, added sugars seemed to control the effect. In the study, women who consumed higher amounts of added sugars showed signs of faster cellular aging compared to others, even if they ate other healthy diets.(Epel和她的同事分析了342名女性三天的饮食记录。 根据最后一段中“These data showed the links between diet and cellular aging, but they were only a tip of the iceberg. In fact, more research is needed to assess how following these diets might affect aging in the long run.(这些数据显示了饮食和细胞衰老之间的联系,但这只是冰山一角。 A。 D Travel is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get, especially when using a mystery box plane ticket. Sun Weili from Ctrip suggested in an interview with Haibao News that visitors should select reliable platforms and sign contracts (合同) to ensure their interests. 32.What is the main attraction of a mystery box plane ticket? A.It offers travelers a low price for plane tickets. B.It provides travelers with several destination choices. C.It allows travelers to choose their own departure time. D.It requires travelers to plan their vacations in advance. 33.Why did Liao Liangyu decide to take a mystery box trip to Changsha? A.Because it was a super hyped-up site. B.Because he wanted to experience a city full of contrasts. C.Because one of his friends had already bought a ticket there. D.Because he wanted to see it in person regardless of others’ opinion. 34.What does Sun Weili suggest to reduce the risks associated with mystery box travel? A.To choose dependable platforms and sign contracts to ensure interests. B.To avoid mystery box travel and plan vacations in advance. C.To only choose destinations that are well-known. D.To rely on word-of-mouth recommendations. 35.What topic is suitable for the passage? A.Personal travel experience B.Trend of mystery box travel C.Problems with mystery travel D.Benefits for less known cities 【答案】32.A 33.D 34.A 35.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段“In normal trips, people often plan their vacations well in advance. But he still decided to go and see it for himself.(就在他们出发前,有位朋友告诉廖,长沙是个被过度炒作的网红打卡地。 根据最后一段“Sun Weili from Ctrip suggested in an interview with Haibao News that visitors should select reliable platforms and sign contracts (合同) to ensure their interests.(携程网的孙伟力在接受海报新闻采访时建议,游客应选择正规平台并签订合同以保障自身权益。)” 故选A。 35. 根据第二段“Earlier this year, mystery box travel became trendy among China’s young people.(今年早些时候,盲盒旅行在中国年轻人中流行起来。)” Is it ever too late to learn a new skill? Turning eleven was a big deal, and he had always celebrated it with a big party surrounded by his friends. However, this year was different. He had so much homework and his parents’ business was not good, so Sam thought it not a good idea to have a birthday party. One day after class, his best friend, Jim, asked, “Are you going to have a birthday party this year?” “No,” Sam answered sadly, “There’s just too much going on and my parents are going through some difficulties.” He smiled weakly, trying to hide his disappointment, but Jim saw through his pretence(假装)easily. But Jim did not say anything. After the break, Sam saw Jim talking to one of their classmates, Sarah, secretly. Curious, Sam went over to them, but as soon as Jim saw him, he quickly walked away. Sam was surprised by Jim’s strange actions and turned towards Sarah. “What did he say?” Sam asked. However, Sarah just said no and walked away with Jim, leaving Sam standing there, feeling left out and worried. What is happening? Sam wondered worriedly. Are they keeping something from me? As Sam’s birthday came nearer, Sam often found Jim chatting softly with other classmates. Whenever Sam went over to them, they would just walk away or tell him that they were talking about a secret which Sam was not allowed to know. Jim had never kept secrets from me before, Sam thought. His heart fell. Why were his friends keeping away from him? And what were they hiding? On the day of Sam’s birthday, he went to school and found his classroom in total darkness(漆黑). _______ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tears came from Sam’s eyes and there was a bright smile on his face. ______________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】On the day of Sam’s birthday, he went to school and found his classroom in total darkness(漆黑). Jim walked up to him with a big smile and said, “We knew you thought you couldn't have a party, but we wanted to give you a special one.” Tears came from Sam’s eyes and there was a bright smile on his face. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:turn on/switch on ②想要:want/ would like ③充满了:(be) filled with/(be) full of 情绪类 ①困惑的:confused/puzzled ② 感动的:touched/moved 【点睛】【高分句型1】Just as he was about to turn on the light, he heard a loud “Surprise!”(运用了as引导的状语从句) 【高分句型2】Sam realized that even though his parents were facing difficulties, he still had his wonderful friends who cared about him.
