When I was a teenager, I wrote postcards to show my friends the new places I had explored every time my family took a vacation. I considered postcards as simply a way to share travels until I came across my grandmother’s postcard album (专辑).
It was a dark gray leather album, where most of the postcards had pictures that did not reflect a holiday or a travel destination. Instead, the notes were mostly invitations to a dinner party or, a walk the next day.
“Why do these postcards ask you to come to tea?” I asked my grandmother. “Because this is how we communicated before we had a telephone,” she said. “I would post a postcard in the morning mail, and a friend would receive it that afternoon. Then she would post a reply that arrived in my mail the next morning.”
I was surprised. Life without a phone sounded like something out of the world. Connecting by postcard seemed as unexpected as using a pigeon (鸽子). I had forgotten about my grandmother’s postcards until lockdowns (封锁) limited our trips to seeing our three granddaughters. Remembering my grandmother’s album, I bought several sets of cards and every few weeks, I’d write notes and mail them.
Then one day I opened my mailbox and saw three hand-addressed envelopes. They were from my granddaughters, each thanking me for the postcards. The notes expressed their disappointment with the pandemic and described how my messages had comforted them.
I had been thinking how my grandmother had accepted the telephone as a new way to keep relationships. Like her, I accepted the girls’ preferred way of communication and texted my thanks for their letters. However, even as the lock-downs end, I will continue to send them postcards because everyone enjoys receiving a real letter.

C.Regretful. D.Embarrassed.
7.Which one should be the title for the text?
A.An Old Postcard Album B.New Ways of Communication
C.Love during Lockdowns D.Attraction of Postcards

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. It allows us to connect with friends, family, and even strangers from all over the world. However, the question of whether social media is a blessing or a curse has sparked intense debate.
On one hand, social media provides numerous benefits. It enables us to share our lives, experiences, and ideas with a vast audience instantly. For students, it can be a great platform to collaborate on school projects, exchange study resources, and learn from each other. Moreover, it helps long-distance relationships stay strong as people can easily keep in touch through photos, videos, and messages.
On the other hand, social media also has its downsides. The constant stream of information can be overwhelming and distracting. Many people find themselves spending hours scrolling through their feeds, wasting precious time that could have been used for more productive activities. Additionally, the spread of false information is a major concern. Rumors and fake news can travel at lightning speed on social media, causing panic and confusion among the public.
Another negative aspect is the potential impact on mental health. Studies have shown that excessive use of social media can lead to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and low self-esteem. People often compare their lives to the seemingly perfect lives of others they see online, which can make them feel inadequate.
In conclusion, while social media offers many advantages, we must also be aware of its drawbacks and use it responsibly. By setting limits on our usage and being critical of the information we consume, we can make the most of this powerful tool without falling victim to its negative effects.
8.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Social media is only beneficial to people.
B.Social media has both positive and negative aspects.
C.Social media is a curse and should be avoided.
D.Social media helps students with their studies only.
9.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT a benefit of social media?
A.Enabling people to share their lives.
B.Helping long-distance relationships.
C.Spreading false information.
D.Providing a platform for students to collaborate.
10.Why can social media have a negative impact on mental health?
A.Because it makes people feel lonely, anxious, and have low self-esteem.
B.Because it takes up too much of people’s time.
C.Because it provides too much useful information.
D.Because it helps people connect with strangers.
11.What’s the author’s attitude towards social media?
A.Totally positive. B.Totally negative.
C.Neutral. D.Indifferent.

C.Because it provides too much useful information.
D.Because it helps people connect with strangers.
11.What’s the author’s attitude towards social media?

“learn to do sth.” 故填to read。
和“begin to do sth.” 故填working/to work。
“in charge of”是固定短语,意为“负责;掌管”,所以空处应用介词in。故填in。
故填but。
故填that。
故填their。
