Giving credit
‘The Fall Guy’ pays respect to stunt actors
《特技狂人》:聚焦“无名英雄”—— 特技演员
Action movies like John Wick (《疾速追杀》) and The Fast and the Furious (《速度与激情》) excite audiences. But they don’t see those behind the scenes – stunt (特技) performers. Now, a new movie is focusing on them.
The Fall Guy (《特技狂人》) came out in Chinese mainland (大陆) cinemas on May 17. It remained No 1 at the US box office for a whole week after it came out on May 3. The movie follows a stunt performer played by US actor Ryan Gosling working on an action movie. However, he gets caught up in a plot (阴谋).
The movie aims to tell people that it is time to give stunt performers more credit. Stunt performers often risk their lives to act. However, while the stars of action movies enjoy the spotlight (聚光灯), stunt performers get little attention. “The better [stunt performers] are at their job, the more they disappear,” Gosling told the BBC.
David Leitch, the director of The Fall Guy, is a stunt performer himself. The movie was “completely authentic (真实的) to my Hollywood journey,” said Leitch. He put his knowledge of stunts into the movie: car flips (翻滚), boat chases, helicopter (直升飞机) jumps, fire burns, hand-to-hand martial arts (武术), shoot-outs and high falls.
For example, Troy Brown is one of several body doubles (替身) of Gosling. He needed to jump from a helicopter flying about 46 meters above the ground, which is like falling from a 15-floor building.
Showing these stunts in the movie, Leitch hopes people will pay more respect to stunt performers. “[It’s] time for us to get credit. We are as impactful (有影响的) as any other artists in the movie,” Leitch told CNN.
Debates on stunt work
Ryan Gosling called for the Oscars to notice the contribution (贡献) of stunts at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony in March. But not all people support him. Some fear that this will make stunts more and more dangerous in order to win awards (奖). Some also believe that such dangerous work should be left to AI.

Picture this: Students pass their school work through different hands, from their group leader to the class representative (课代表) and finally to the teacher. It might not sound too difficult, but sometimes it can go wrong and take a lot of time.
To deal with this problem, Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen came up with a useful tool—a smart homework collection robot. This won him first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children’s Invention Awards.
The robot uses radio frequency identification (RFID,射频识别) technology—a reader and a special tag (标签) that can share information without touching each other. This way, it can help find and know what it is looking for. Each student’s notebook has a special RFID tag with their name and the subject. Students only need to put their notebooks on the robot, and the machine “sees” each notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list. “Teachers can check who hasn’t handed in homework by connecting their phones with the robot through Wi-Fi,” the 13-year-old student said.
The robot is the second-generation (第二代) model made by Zhang. Now, he’s planning to develop a third-generation and hopes to use ultra-high-frequency (超高频) radio technology to read lots of RFID tags from far away. That means if you stick a special tag on your notebook, the robot can read the information from a thick stack (堆) of notebooks at once. Zhang believes this is the key to how artificial intelligence can make life easier for us.
Zhang dreams of becoming a scientist when he grows up. “I have tried making model airplanes and other creative projects. Inventing has brought me joy and happiness,” he said.
11.Why did Zhang Xirui invent a smart collection robot?
A.Because his father was a scientist.
B.Because he was the class representative.
C.Because his teacher asked him to do that.
D.Because passing students’ school work could go wrong and took a lot of time.
12.How old is Zhang Xirui?
A.12. B.13. C.14. D.15.
13.How does the robot work?
a. The machine reads the notebook’s tag.
b. The machine takes the notebook out of the name list.
c. The machine “sees” the notebook.
d. Students only need to put their notebooks on the robot.
A.d→c→a→b B.d→b→c→a C.a→b→c→d D.c→b→d→a
14.How do teachers know who hasn’t handed in homework?
A.By touching the robot. B.By turning on the computer.
C.By calling Zhang Xirui. D.By connecting their phones with the robot through Wi-Fi.
15.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.A Smart Robot Helper at School B.A Kind Boy C.A Fun Project D.A Science Report

When it comes to Chinese food, vinegar adds a special taste to dishes. To make good vinegar, there are five main steps.
Steaming
First, mix the mashed sorghum (高粱) with water. 16 This makes the sorghum soft and ready for the next step.
Fermenting (酵)
17 Then add a special ingredient called daqu to help the fermentation process.
Smoking (熏)
The fermented mixture then goes into a special oven for smoked fermentation. 18 It gets darker and darker, and finally turns black and purple. This step makes the vinegar look, smell, and taste better.
Leaching (淋)
After smoking, put the fermented sorghum in a big pot. There is something like a net at the lower part of the pot. Pour clean water onto it. 19 Then collect the vinegar.
Aging (陈)
Finally, the vinegar goes through an aging process. Place the fresh vinegar outside. 20 Then there is less water in the vinegar. This makes the vinegar taste even better.
A. In the hot summer, the sun heats the vinegar.
B. They clean carefully before starting each step.
C. Then steam the mixture for about 1.5 to 2 hours.

7、 短文填空(2*5)
It’s the day before an exam, and you haven’t (还没有) studied for it. As a result, you spend hours reading your textbook and going over your notes at night.
This learning way is called “cramming (临时抱佛脚)”—trying to learn everything at the last minute. Dr. Robert Bjork, a psychologist (心理学家), explains that cramming works only for short-term memory. “You remember just enough for an easy exam,” he says, “and you quickly forget most of what you ‘learned’ that night.” This is especially bad for subjects like maths or languages. If you forget the basic knowledge (基本知识), it will be much harder to understand new lessons later.
Another problem caused by cramming is that you don’t get enough sleep. Staying up late makes you tired for days, so you’ll have difficulty being careful in the class. This can create a cycle of procrastination (拖延循环) and affect your study.
What are the better learning ways? A study shows that two ways—spaced-out learning and interleaving—are much more helpful than cramming.
Spaced-out learning means studying the same thing several times with breaks. For example, instead of studying history for three hours the night before a test, you can study for one hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This improves long-term memory. A study found that 90% of students remembered more by spaced-out learning than cramming.
Interleaving is also a smart learning way. This means trying to learn different things every time you study. For example, you can spend 30 minutes on maths, practise English for 20 minutes, and then write a short article. After that, go back to maths. Then you can remember the information better and for a longer time.
Next time you have an exam, start studying early, space out study time, and mix up subjects. Remember: studying wisely is better than studying hard at the last minute.
50. What’s your favorite learning way and why?(20词左右)Advantage (优点):
•It’s OK for 46. for an easy exam.
Disadvantages:
•Students can only get short-term memory.
•Students have difficulty learning new lessons.
•Students aren’t 47. to focus on study the next few days, creating a cycle of procrastination.
Students can remember more information by taking 48. .
Students can have a better and longer 49. for the information.
