Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
For most of us teaching seventh-graders English would be similar to teaching flying monkeys to sit.Just thinking about it,we might feel frustrated. But is was not for Miss Smith. For 40 years, she stood in the front of her classroom, tapping the blackboard where an inspirational quote was drawn neatly.“Open your notebook and write,”she would instruct. If a student was late, she would simply say,“Write about why you are late today.”The content and style didn't matter. It was the connection of thought to paper that was the aim.
If you write long enough, these thought will turn into feelings and feelings on paper become visible, clear enough to examine. The anxiety of seventh-graders,the puberty(青春期)crisis and the mixture of emotions need a way out.Miss Smith knew that. She knew her teenage students needed to develop their own guidance systems,or they needed to deal with the forces that surrounded them.
The quotes Miss Smith carefully wrote on the chalkboard were inspirational, and could encourage self-reflection.Most of the notebooks were filled with silly nonsense, like looking forward to pancakes for lunch,or worse, line after line stating that they didn't know what to writer then.Regardless of those Miss Smith read every entry(记录)and in neat red handwriting, wrote notes of encouragement and praise.
She would read Shakespeare and ask how Romeo must have felt about being rejected(冷落)by his friends and family. The characters in the literature gave students permission to get emotional growth in a safe way,and the words inside those notebooks became more and more personal as time went on.Those who used to be proble students and need saving later became journalists and fiction writers.
No one would disagree that she made every student feel they are not only what they are now but they are more. That point drove them to work hard and see what that “more” was going to be.

(2024·日照高二期末)The last thing Caitlin Hipp would have expected as she prepared to turn 28 years old was to be living at home with her parents. But through working as a part-time skating instructor and restaurant server, she isn't able to earn enough to live anywhere other than home.
To some degree,multi-generational households have always been a part of American life. However, the number of young adults who have been moving back in with their parents—or never leaving home in the first place—has been growing steadily.
UBS Financial Services released a report that even suggests one reason for the growing number of young adults still living at home could be that their family doesn't want them to leave.
The report shows that 74 percent of millennials (千禧一代) get some kind of financial support from their parents after college. It finds that millennials have redefined the ties that connect parents and children.Millennials see their parents as peers (同龄人),friends and instructors.Nearly three quarters talked with their parents more than once a week during college. In return, their parents happily provide financial support well into adulthood, helping fund everything for them.
Stuart Hoffman, chief economist for the PNC Financial Group in the US,said the number of young adults striking out on their own fell during the Great Recession.Although job growth for millennials since 2014 has improved,it doesn't necessarily mean that millennials are starting to fly the nest.He said,“They may like living at home and being able to save money.”
“There's no doubt that it has held back household formation and purchases of things people spend money on related to household formation and perhaps related to child-raising,” Hoffman explained.“But they are probably traveling more and eating out more if they don't have a house expense or marriage.I don't know if it represents a change in moral values. But it's much more common for adult children to live in their parents' homes because it's becoming part of the culture.”

Ⅱ.七选五
In the most basic sense,self-regulation(自我调节)involves controlling one's behavior and thoughts in pursuit(追求)of long-term goals.Generally, people who are good at self-regulation tend to see the good in others and view challenges as opportunities. They exactly know what they want to achieve, act in accordance with their views, and devote their best effort. 1
2 A bad-tempered child who hits others will be tiresome at school. An adult with poor self-regulation skills may lack self-confidence.He may have difficulty handling stress, and often, this might be expressed in the form of anger and anxiety.
How do problems with self-regulation develop? It could start early when a baby isn't treated with enough care. 3 Later,an adult may struggle with self-regulation,either because this ability wasn't developed during childhood,or because of a lack of skill in managing difficult feelings. When left unchecked, over time this could lead to risky behavior such as taking drugs.
4 One of the most frequently used methods is to change your thought patterns, which means that you think about a situation in a positive way, rather than one that's likely to increase negative emotions. 5 Rather than thinking that this reflects something about yourself such as “my friend hates me”,you might instead think,“my friend must be really busy”.
A.Try to cheer yourself up after disappointment.
B.Do the usual series of things at a particular time.
C.A child who doesn't feel safe may have trouble self-regulating.
D.A lack of self-regulation will cause problems in life.
E.Anyhow,self-regulation is so important that we should learn to use this skill.
