best of all,she loved to read-just like me!
During lunch breaks,we would often sit in the school library, lost in books. We discussed our
favorite characters in novels and shared our different understandings of the stories.Through those
conversations,we not only deepened our friendship but also opened our eyes.Even on our way home,we
would talk about whatever book we were reading, which gave us a chance to escape our small country

experience built up my confidence and I knew that I couldn't have done it without Lily.
We also had our share of difficulties and disagreements.Divided opinions didn't part us,but brought
us to heart-to-heart talks, and we became even closer after.High school life was full of challenges, but

Three experimental fields of seawater rice(were harvested in China on Wednesday. Also

other areas with high salt content )and has been developed by experts through crossbreeding
)and other technologies.
One type of seawater rice growing in Qingdao,Shandong Province, produced 3.9 metric tons()per
hectare ()experts announced.Once widely planted in large areas, the output could be much higher.
The Qingdao Saline-Alkali Tolerant Rice Research and Development Center, led by the Chinese
agricultural scientist Yuan Longping, was established several years ago.It set a three-year goal of
developing a kind of salt-resistant rice which is able to produce 4.5 tons a hectare),which would
make sure the farmers the minimum profit. The average rice output in China is 6.75 tons a hectare.
Planting in the experimental field in Qingdao and five other areas of saline-alkali land started at the
end of May.The five other plots were in Dongying,Shandong Province;Wenzhou,Zhejiang
Province;:Yan'an,Shaanxi Province,Kashgar(喀什),the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region(维吾尔自治
)and Daging,Heilongjiang Province. The sites represent actually every type of saline-alkali land in
China and researchers aim to grow different kinds of rice able to deal with different climate, salinity and
soil structure conditions.
The test crops in Kashgar and Daqing were also harvested on Wednesday. In Kashgar, the output
reached more than 7.5 tons per hectare, according to experts'tests, much higher than expected. The
harvest in Kashgar was satisfactory. The result means it is possible to plant such salt-resistant rice in
southem Xinjiang in the future.Xinjiang has about 2 million hectares of saline-alkali land that have the
potential to be planted with salt-resistant rice, and if it is widely planted it will generally improve rice
production in the region.
The seawater rice grown in Daging only produced 3.1 tons per hectare.A live video on Shandong TV
showed growers appearing a little disappointed by the result,as they hoped the experts'efforts would
increase production greatly. However, the water and soil conditions of the Shang Dong were not ideal, and
the pH level was extremely high.

根据后文“If you fly straight into getting up at your desired time every day, you’ll feel tired during the transition within a few weeks. For some people, those first few days of exhaustion from switching to a new schedule aren’t safe and hard to bear. In that case, gradually ease into the early-bird life. They are supposed to shift half an hour, wait a few days, shift another half an hour, wait a few days, and then shift another half an hour.

故填our。
名词way意为“方式”,其后常用不定式作后置定语;a way to display interest“一种表达兴趣的方式”。故填to display。
故填the。
故填who/that。
故填By。

The Scientist I Admire Most
Distinguished teachers and fellow students,
It's a great honour to stand here to deliver my speech, whose topic is”The Scientist I Admire Most”. For me, it must be the outstanding agricultural scientist, Yuan Longping who is widely known as the“father of hybrid rice”.
Yuan was born in Beijing in 1930 and graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in Chongqing in 1953. Since then, he worked on the land and did research to solve the national starvation. After many trials, he succeeded in developing the hybrid rice, feeding more people both at home and abroad.I was inspired by his diligence to his work and his devotion to making a difference in the world.
The lesson I learn from him is what I am struggling for is not just for myself, but for the happiness of the whole world.
That’s all. Thanks for your listening!
