Annie 7 May
It’s Sunday afternoon. The last hours of the weekend before school starts again. This time is valuable, but I’m sitting here with nothing to do and no money to spend! So I need ideas for things to do. Important: they need to be fun and free. I’m asking for help because time is running out!
Austin 08 (5 minutes ago)
Go for a walk. I always go for a walk on Sunday. I like going on my own. It’s the perfect time to think about all the things I don’t normally have time to think about and I never think about things I need to do. I like forgetting all about them just for a few hours every week.
Monster Munch 4342 (20 minutes ago)
I’m writing my weekly poetry blog post. Well, I was—now I’m writing to you. I upload a post every Sunday. At the moment, I’m finishing poem number 15. Five more to go! Maybe you don’t want to write a poem or even a blog, so try a story. Go on—use your imagination!
Cool 656 Carl (25 minutes ago)
I’m lucky. I live in Liverpool and we have the best museums and they’re all free. They’re too big for just one visit, so one Sunday every month I go and check out a different room. Today it’s the insect room—I want to see what unusual bugs they have!
Silly Milly (32 minutes ago)
Read something. Sunday is my reading day. I read for at least four hours on a Sunday—books, magazines, websites, newspapers—anything. It’s free and best of all—you can do it anywhere. And sometimes, when I’m really lucky, Dad brings me a drink, too.

Finally, you finish all your work and sit back in your chair. Suddenly you feel a headache and realize your eyes are painful. What’s going on? Doctors say that many people are spending too much time in front of screens. The following might be of some help to you.
THE 20-20-20 RULE
This gives your eyes a break from long screen time. It suggests looking at something at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds after 20 minutes of work on the screen. You can then continue working pain-free.
● Studies show that people blink less often when looking at a screen. Keep your eyes wet by blinking often or using eye drops.
● Sit up straight about an arm’s length away from the screen. Make sure you’re looking down at your screen. Stand up and exercise often to avoid neck and shoulder pain.
● What about blue light blocking glasses? They may look cool, but research shows that blue light isn’t the biggest cause of eye tiredness. So ask doctors about computer glasses before putting them on.

Subject: “Museums of the World” Travel Plan
“Museums of the World” Travel Plan
Here’s the travel plan for some unusual museums on our “Museums of the World” tour. I’ll send you our plan of the whole journey next week.
The Museum of Bad Art shows what it describes as “art too bad to be ignored (忽略)”. The museum hopes to bring the worst of art to the widest possible audience. As part of the visit, we’ll see some truly terrible works of art.
The Washington Banana Museum has 4,000 objects inside. They are all connected to the history of bananas. We’ll have a guided tour around the museum. We’ll learn all kinds of interesting facts. For example, bananas were first introduced to the USA in 1878 in the same exhibition as Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone. The banana is now the best-selling fruit in the USA.
Now onto Europe — The Hair Museum is located in a huge cave in a European country. It has 16,000 samples (样本) of people’s hair inside. You’ll have a chance to add your own hair to the collection. Later in the year, the museum curator will select 10 people who gave lots of money to the museum to attend a party. If you’re one of them, you’ll be invited to stay in his guest house.
The Museu de Carrosses Funebres is a museum of funerals (葬礼). It takes a look at how local people have been transported to their funerals since the 19th century. During the tour, we’ll get a good understanding of how the local people viewed death.

If you’ve ever been to a Chinese restaurant, you’ve most likely received a fortune cookies at the end of your meal. Fortune cookies are small, hard golden cookies. But there’s one thing that makes them special: They’re folded (折) into a butterfly shape to create a pocket holding a “fortune”, a short message about your future.
The finger-sized fortunes contain just about everything from sayings to advice. Often, they are written in both English and Chinese, and may have happy faces on them.
The history of when and by whom fortune cookies are first made is a bit murky. Most people believe that they were created by a Japanese man named Makoto Hagiwara in 1914. However, many still hold the idea that they were invented by a man named David Jung, who owned a noodle company. He put passages and handed them out to jobless men near his bakery in 1918.
So how did they put the fortunes inside the cookies? In fact, the process is very simple. The cookies are baked as flat circles. After the cookies are taken out of the oven, pieces of paper are folded and then put inside while the cookies are still warm and soft. As the cookies cool, they harden into shape (硬化成形). In 1974, the way of making fortune cookies changed forever. Edward Louie, the owner of a fortune cookie company, invented a machine that could place the fortune and fold the cookie. In 1980, Yong Lee created a new type of cookie machine and it could make cookies automatically (自动). It’s called the Fortune III. Now fortune cookie machines like the Kitamura FCM-8006W can make up to 8,000 cookies in an hour!
In some countries, fortune cookies have been a popular culture. People create their own fortune cookies to send funny messages to friends and family-and sometimes to even propose marriage (求婚)! They are also used in some business activities for advertisements.
1.________ makes fortune cookies special on the meal table.

2.The underlined word “murky” in paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A.unclear B.funny C.boring D.strange

4.The first man to make fortune cookies with a machine was ________.
A.David Jung B.Edward Louie C.Makoto Hagiwara D.Yong Lee
5.The last paragraph mainly talks about ________.
A.the different ways of making fortune cookies
B.the different advertisements for fortune cookies
C.the different situations where fortune cookies can be used
D.the different meanings of fortune cookies in different cultures
6.According to the passage, what can we learn about fortune cookies?
A.They are part of Japanese food culture.
B.They are believed to have been invented in the 20th century.
C.They are made into a butterfly shape to look good.

Welcome to our online forum (论坛) discussion. In today’s digital age, more and more families are on social media platforms (平台) to share their lives and experiences. Here some views from our forum participants (参与者) about this topic.
ProInfluencer:
Hello, everyone! As a family social media influencer myself, I believe there are many great things about it. Firstly, by sharing our daily routines, challenges, and wins, we create content (内容) that people really care about. It’s like making a big family community. Secondly, our content gives information, advice and ideas to help them with things like being a parent, running a business, or cooking.
Concerned Parent:
I get why it’s fun, but I worry about privacy (隐私). When families share every aspect of their lives online, especially when it involves children. It might put their privacy and safety in danger. Sharing too much can be risky, and kids might not realize how posting their lives online can affect them in the future.
________
I see both sides of the coin. On one side, family social media influencers usually show a perfect picture of their family life. This can make their followers feel like their own lives aren’t good enough, because they compare them to the “perfect” pictures online. On the other side, these influencers can also inspire (激励) and encourage their audience by sharing happy experiences and what they do every day.
Family First:
While I enjoy the education and inspiration that family social media influencers provide, I worry about how it affects family life. When families always take pictures and share everything they do, it can take up a lot of time. It might make family members feel like they need to make good content instead of just enjoying time together. We shouldn’t let trying to be popular online take away from the real love and fun we have as a family.

A.ProInfluencer. B.Concerned Parent. C.The third participant. D.Family First.

Planting a tree in every garden
Every new house in some neighbourhoods of Sydney, Australia, will have to have a tree in the garden and a pale roof. The rules were introduced by the local authorities to help the environment. Blue whales are the world’s largest animals and several of them have been spotted by researchers in Spanish waters since 2022. Oceans cover two-thirds of our Earth. There are five main oceans which all flow into each other: the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Southern Ocean.
What are the Layers of the Ocean?
Oceans are made of five layers or depths. Each layer has different characteristics (特点), such as the temperature and the amount of light. They have unique creatures (独特的生物) living within them.
The Sunlight Zone-up to 200m below the surface of the ocean
There is plenty of sunlight and heat in this zone although both decrease (减少) as you go deeper. There are many different living things within this layer, including seaweed, dolphins, fish, and coral reefs. Humans enjoy this warm layer for activities such as swimming and fishing.
The Twilight Zone-up to 1,000m below the surface of the ocean
Only weak sunlight reaches this deeper layer. No plants grow within this layer. It is home to sea animals which often have large eyes, including the sea cucumber, the wolf eel, the swordfish and the octopus. Humans can dive to this layer wearing protective suits.
The Midnight Zone-up to 4,000m below the surface of the ocean
The Midnight Zone is pitch-black because sunlight cannot reach this layer. Some light can be seen from creatures that make their own light, such as anglerfish, jelly fish and viperfish.
Abyss-up to 6,000m below the surface of the ocean
The sunlight cannot reach this layer at all, so it is pitch-black and near freezing. Very few creatures live here, but those that do are mainly transparent (透明的), blind invertebrates (无脊椎动物), such as lanternfish, squid and amphipod.
The Trenches-up to 11,000m below the surface of the ocean
The Trenches are narrow, underwater valleys of the ocean floor which have high pressure and near-freezing temperature. There is no natural light in this zone, but different creatures can be found, such as sea stars.
1.Which of the following pictures about ocean layers is correct?
A. B.
C. D.
2.________ is a must-have if someone wants to explore the Twilight Zone.
A.Sunscrean (防晒霜) B.A fishing rod
C.A strong underwater light D.A waterproof (防水的) bag

Hello, readers! As a technology lover, I had the exciting chance to attend the launch events for both the new Apple iPhone 17 and the Huawei Mate XTs this year. After seeing them up close, I am here to share my thoughts and help you understand what makes these two phones special. It’s amazing how different they are, each with unique strengths. This comparison will focus on their design, key features, and who might benefit most from using them. Let’s dive into the details to see which one could be your next perfect device.
The Apple iPhone 17 feels like a big step forward in artificial intelligence. Its new “A18 Mind” chip is designed to learn from your behavior. For instance, if it notices you always go for a run after work, it might prepare your favorite workout playlist and check the weather for you. This smart technology also manages the phone’s battery in a very smart way making it last much longer under normal use. Another key improvement is the support for 6G networks, which allows you to download large files almost instantly. The phone’s design is also sleeker, with a brighter screen that is easier to read outdoors. However, all these amazing features come with a very high price, which might be a problem for some students and young people. Additionally, while the AI is helpful, it requires sharing more personal data, which some users may worry about.
On the other hand, the Huawei Mate XTs offers a completely different experience with its revolutionary foldable screen. When unfolded, it provides a large, beautiful display that is perfect for reading digital books, watching movies, or even working on documents side-by-side. The screen is so smooth that you can hardly see the fold in the middle. Huawei also improved the camera system significantly. It performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions, capturing bright and clear photos at night or indoors. The battery life is also impressive, lasting a full day even with heavy use. While its price is still high, it is generally more affordable than the new iPhone, offering great value for a device with such a large, high-quality screen. Some users might find the folded phone a bit thick, but most agree the large screen is worth it.
So, what is the conclusion? Your choice really depends on your lifestyle and what you need from a phone. The iPhone 17 acts like a thoughtful, intelligent assistant that tries to make your daily life easier. In contrast, the Huawei Mate XTs serves as a powerful and versatile (多功能的) mini-tablet that is great for entertainment and work. Both are excellent examples of modern technology moving in exciting, though different, directions. If you love Al and speed, choose the iPhone. If you prefer a big screen for fun and work, the Huawei is better. No matter which you pick, both phones show how far technology has come.
1.What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage?
A.To tell a personal experience of meeting with two phones.
B.To show the common features of the two phones.
C.To introduce two new phones for user’s preference.
D.To suggest a lifestyle with or without a modern phone.
2.One key advantage of the iPhone 17 is ________.
A.its battery that goes long B.a larger screen for people to enjoy
C.the reasonable price even for students D.camera pictures in good quality
3.The word “revolutionary” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A.very old-fashioned but traditional B.completely new and changing
C.somewhat supportive and beautiful D.much more convenient than before
4.Paragraph 3 probably highlights ________ of the Huawei Mate XTs.
A.the screen B.the camera C.the price D.the packaging
5.What does a person mainly consider when choosing between the two new phones?
A.The all-rounded functions of each. B.The working system of entertainment.
C.The expectations from each for his life. D.The speed of working efficiency.
6.Where can we probably find this passage?
A.In a technology company report. B.In a textbook of a science course.
C.On a personal tech blog website. D.In a product advertisement in a magazine.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.A 5.C 6.C

Annie 7 May
It’s Sunday afternoon.

Silly Milly (32 minutes ago)

A.it makes people feel like their own lives aren’t good enough
B.it takes up too much family time
C.it could endanger the privacy and safety of children
D.it makes families focus too much on creating content
3.The name for the third participant could be ________.
A.Balanced Viewer B.Social Fan C.Perfect Parent D.Daily Sharer
4.According to Family First, ________ should come first.
A.creating good content for social media B.showing a perfect picture of family life
C.protecting children’s privacy online D.spending quality time together as a family
5.Which post do most people reply to?
A.ProInfluencer. B.Concerned Parent. C.The third participant. D.Family First.
6.The forum discussion is mainly about ________.
A.how to become a famous social media influencer
B.why families should stop using social media
C.the different opinions on families sharing their lives online

Idlib, Syria
Olympics held in tents
Children living in refugee camps in Syria have held their version of the Olympic Games. A refugee is a person who has had to leave their home because of war or the threat of violence. Around 120 children from 12 camps took part in the Tent Olympics in the city of Idlib. Events included the high jump and volleyball. Walid Mohammed al-Hassan, aged 12, told AI Jazeera news, “We had such fun.”
New Delhi, India
Bus brings school to students
Buses in India’s capital, New Delhi, are being used to teach children who cannot study at home. Each weekday, four buses visit poorer areas and around 50 children get on for lessons and meals. The project is run by Tejas Asia, a group that provides education to poorer children. Ten-year-old Azmira said, “The teachers are very good.”
Sydney, Australia
Planting a tree in every garden
Every new house in some neighbourhoods of Sydney, Australia, will have to have a tree in the garden and a pale roof. The rules were introduced by the local authorities to help the environment. Unlike pale roofs, dark roofs retain heat, which raises the temperature in the area and means lots of power has to be used to cool houses in the summer.
Spain
Blue whales return
After more than 40 years without a sighting, blue whales are returning to Spain’s Atlantic coast.

A.warm and bright B.light grey C.deep blue D.totally dark
4.According to the passage, sunlight can get to ________.
A.the Twilight Zone B.Abyss C.the Trenches D.the Midnight Zone
5.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Plants and living things can be found in each ocean layer.
B.Animals with large eyes can often be found in the Midnight Zone.
C.Humans are able to freely explore most of the ocean layers without any equipment.
D.Neither the temperature nor the amount of sunlight is the same in each ocean layer.
6.The main purpose of this article is to ________.
