My Sports Experience
When I was in junior high school, I was not interested in sports at all. I preferred reading books or playing computer games after class. As a result, I was quite weak and often got sick.
Everything changed when I entered senior high. Our school required all students to take part in morning exercises and afternoon sports activities. At first, I hated it. Running made me breathless, and I couldn’t play basketball well.
One day, our P.E. teacher noticed my problem and talked to me. He said, “Sports are not just about winning. They’re about challenging yourself and becoming stronger.” He suggested I start with swimming, which was easier on the body.
I followed his advice and joined the school swimming club. At first, I could only swim a few meters. But with daily practice, I gradually improved. After three months, I could swim 50 meters without stopping.
Now, I enjoy swimming very much. It has made me stronger and more energetic. I no longer get sick easily, and I even joined the school sports meeting last month. Sports have taught me that with persistence, anyone can improve.

What is the 15-minute city? It’s the urban planning concept that everything city residents need should be a short walk or bike ride away—about 15 minutes from home to work, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, schools, parks and health care. Supporters argue that 15-minute cities are healthier for residents and the environment, creating united mini-communities, boosting local businesses, and encouraging people to get outside, walk, and cycle.
Many cities across Europe offer similar ideas, but Paris has become its poster child. Mayor Anne Hidalgo has sought to fight climate change by decreasing choking traffic in the streets and fuel emissions. In 2015, Paris was 17th on the list of bike-friendly cities; by 2019, it was 8th. Car ownership, meanwhile, dropped from 60 percent of house holds in 2001 to 35 percent in 2019. The 15-minute city figured largely in Hidalgo’s successful 2020 re-election campaign. The idea has also gained support in the U.S.
It clearly won’t work everywhere: Not every city is as centralized and walkable as Paris. Some car-dominated cities like Los Angeles and Phoenix would be hard-pressed to provide everything people need within walking distance. In addition, some urban planners argue that the 15-minute city could increase the separation of neighborhoods by income. Neighborhoods equipped with all the conveniences required by the 15-minute city also tend to have high housing costs and wealthier residents.
Despite some resistance, the basic principles behind the 15-minute city are influencing planning in cities around the world, including Melbourne, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Singapore, and Shanghai. Urban designer and thinker Jay Pitter says cities where basic needs are within walking distance create more individual freedom than needing to drive every where. “In a city where services are always close by,” he says, “mobility is a choice: You go where you want because you want to, not because you have to. My fight is not against the car. My fight is how we could improve the quality of life.”
8. Which best describes the 15-minute city?
A. Modern. B. Convenient.
C. Entertaining. D. Smart.
9. What’s the original intention for Paris to advocate the 15-minute city?
A. To address climate issues. B. To beautify the city.
C. To promote the bike industry. D. To help Hidalgo get re-elected.
10. What’s some urban planners’ worry about the 15-minute city?
A. It slows the city’s expansion.
B. It represents a setback for society.
C. It may widen the gap between neighborhoods.
D. It can cause the specialization of neighborhoods.
11. What’s Jay Pitter’s attitude to the concept of 15-minute city?
A. Doubtful. B. Favorable.
C. Critical. D. Uninterested.
B 9. A 10. C 11. B

根据第一段中“What is the 15-minute city? It’s the urban planning concept that everything city residents need should be a short walk or bike ride away—about 15 minutes from home to work, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, schools, parks and health care.(什么是15分钟城市?
根据第二段中“Many cities across Europe offer similar ideas, but Paris has become its poster child. Mayor Anne Hidalgo has sought to fight climate change by decreasing choking traffic in the streets and fuel emissions. (欧洲许多城市都提供了类似的理念,但巴黎已成为其典型代表。市长Anne Hidalgo试图通过减少令人窒息的街道交通和燃料排放来应对气候变化)”可知,巴黎倡导15分钟城市的初衷是解决气候问题,故选A。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“In addition, some urban planners argue that the 15-minute city could increase the separation of neighborhoods by income. Neighborhoods equipped with all the conveniences required by the 15-minute city also tend to have high housing costs and wealthier residents.(此外,一些城市规划者认为,15分钟的城市可以加大社区的收入差距。拥有这个15分钟城市所需要的所有便利设施的社区往往住房成本较高,居民也较为富裕)”可知,一些城市规划者对这个15分钟城市的担心是,它可能会加大邻里之间的差距,故选C。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Urban designer and thinker Jay Pitter says cities where basic needs are within walking distance create more individual freedom than needing to drive every where.(城市设计师和思想家Jay Pitter说,那些基本需求在步行距离之内的城市创造了比到处开车更多的个人自由)”可推知,Jay Pitter对15分钟城市理念的态度是赞成的,故选B。
D
If you’re a sports fan, you may be familiar with the emotional roller-coaster that comes with sports spectatorship (观看). Whether you’re part of a buzzing crowd in a stadium or watching a game at home on TV, it’s easy to get caught up in the highs and lows as you celebrate your favorite team or athlete. Those feelings are so strong, in fact, that a study from Croatia, published in PubMed, showed that the emotional stress during a football match increased the risk of a cardiovascular (心血管的) incident. But can watching sports also be beneficial for you?
The evidence suggests that people who watch live sporting events experience greater well-being than those who don’t. A study published in Frontiers in Public Health by Anglia Ruskin University in the UK found that sports spectators felt less lonely and had higher scores for life satisfaction. Lead author Helen Keys said in a press release, “Watching live sport of all types provides many opportunities for social interaction, and this contributes to forging group identity and belonging.”
But, if for any reason you aren’t keen on going to live events, don’t worry! Watching sports on TV or on the internet may also have positive effects, according to a study by Tsuji and colleagues. They found that older adults who watched sports were less likely to have depressive symptoms than those who didn’t. On top of that, sports spectators tended to have richer social networks than non-spectators. The authors suggest that the social networks gained through watching sports may lower the risk of depressive symptoms.
Cheering at sports events and discussing teams with friends promotes unity, reducing loneliness and depression, showing that sports’ health benefits extend beyond physical activity to include social bonding and overall well-being.
12. Why does the author mention Croatia’s study?
A. To offer an evidence. B. To present an example.
C. To describe a finding. D. To lead into a topic.
13. What does the underlined word “forging” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Shaping. B. Mending. C. Breaking. D. Predicting.
14. What do Tsuji and colleagues advise people to do?
A. Stream sports matches. B. Play sports in person.
C. Expand social networks. D. Promote sports awareness.
15. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. How Risky Is Watching Live Sports?
B. What Is the Secret to Sports Spectatorship?
C. Is Watching Sports Good for Your Well-being?
D. Does Watching Sports Increase Depressive Symptoms?
D 13. A 14. A 15. C
由文章第一段中“Those feelings are so strong, in fact, that a study from Croatia, published in PubMed, showed that the emotional stress during a football match increased the risk of a cardiovascular (心血管的) incident. But can watching sports also be beneficial for you? (事实上,这些感受如此强烈,以至于克罗地亚一项在PubMed上发表的研究显示,观看足球比赛时的情绪压力会增加心血管事件发生的风险。但是,观看体育比赛也会对你有益吗?)”可知,作者提到克罗地亚的研究是为了引出话题,即观看体育比赛是否也有好处。故选D。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。由文章第二段中“Watching live sport of all types provides many opportunities for social interaction, and this contributes to forging group identity and belonging. (观看各种类型的体育直播为社会互动提供了许多机会,这有助于forging群体认同和归属感。)”可知,观看各种现场体育比赛提供了许多社交互动的机会,这有助于塑造群体认同感和归属感。因此,forging在此处的意思是“塑造,形成”,与选项A“Shaping.(塑造)”相符。故选A。
由文章第三段中“Watching sports on TV or on the internet may also have positive effects, according to a study by Tsuji and colleagues. (根据Tsuji及其同事的一项研究,通过电视或互联网观看体育比赛也可能产生积极影响。)”可知,Tsuji和他的同事们建议人们通过流媒体直播观看体育比赛。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“Whether you’re part of a buzzing crowd in a stadium or watching a game at home on TV, it’s easy to get caught up in the highs and lows as you celebrate your favorite team or athlete. Those feelings are so strong, in fact, that a study from Croatia, published in PubMed, showed that the emotional stress during a football match increased the risk of a cardiovascular (心血管的) incident. But can watching sports also be beneficial for you? (无论是在体育场内置身于熙熙攘攘的人群中,还是在家通过电视观看比赛,当你为自己喜爱的球队或运动员加油时,都很容易陷入情绪的高涨与低落之中。事实上,这些感受如此强烈,以至于克罗地亚一项在PubMed上发表的研究显示,观看足球比赛时的情绪压力会增加心血管事件发生的风险。但是,观看体育比赛也会对你有益吗?)”和最后一段中“Cheering at sports events and discussing teams with friends promotes unity, reducing loneliness and depression, showing that sports’ health benefits extend beyond physical activity to include social bonding and overall well-being. (在体育赛事中欢呼并与朋友讨论球队促进了团结,减少了孤独感和抑郁情绪,这表明体育带来的健康益处不仅限于身体活动,还包括社交联系和整体幸福感。)”可知,文章主要讨论的是观看体育比赛是否有利于健康,所以最好的标题是“Is Watching Sports Good for Your Well-being? (看体育运动对你的健康有好处吗?)”。故选C。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Language Learner Habits to Avoid
Successful language learners do the kind of things the unsuccessful ones don’t and avoid the ones that unsuccessful ones do! This article is about language learning habits that successful learners avoid.
Always being distracted (注意力分散的). Being distracted by noises, people walking past or your own thoughts will take you away from being present. Presence is of great importance in learning. ___16___ Study can’t make up for a lack of presence — nothing can.
Only talking the talk. There is little point in making plans or talking about what you are going to do if you do not follow through. ___17___ You need to walk the talk. If you are only talking the talk, maybe it has to do with one of the other habits mentioned below!
___18___ We can all get lazy if we are doing things that are not inspiring us. Who gets lazy with things they love doing? Laziness is a sign that something has to change. Forcing yourself to persist (坚持) will only last for so long, before it gives way to more laziness.
Giving up. “The most certain way to succeed,” Thomas Edison once said, “is always to try just one more time.” ___19___ And often, it comes after failing time and time again.
If you are doing any of these, my suggestion is to think more carefully and see if you can move away from these practices. ___20___
A. Giving in to (屈服于) laziness.
B. Learning to get rid of laziness.
C. In a sense, we do learn by trial and error
D. Once you do, you will be heading in a better direction.
E. Success never comes from not trying.
F. Action is what will produce results, not just words or thoughts.
G. Without that, you cannot notice the things that can help you to improve.
G 17. F 18. A 19. E 20. D
空处上一句“Presence is of great importance in learning.(专心对学习很重要。)”介绍“不分心”对学习的重要性,空处下一句“Study can’t make up for a lack of presence — nothing can.(学习无法弥补专注度的缺失——任何事物都无法弥补。)” 分析选项内容可知,G项“Without that, you cannot notice the things that can help you to improve.(没有它,你就无法注意到那些能帮助你进步的事情。)”
由主旨句“Only talking the talk.(只是说说而已。)” 空前内容“There is little point in making plans or talking about what you are going to do if you do not follow through.(如果你不坚持到底,制定计划或谈论你要做什么就没有什么意义了。)”指出只有计划没有行动是没意义的,空后“You need to walk the talk. If you are only talking the talk, maybe it has to do with one of the other habits mentioned below!(你需要言行一致。如果你只是说说而已,也许这与下面提到的其他习惯之一有关!)”强调了行动的重要性。F项“Action is what will produce results, not just words or thoughts.(行动才会产生结果,而不仅仅是靠言语或想法。)”
根据下文“We can all get lazy if we are doing things that are not inspiring us.(如果我们做的事情不能激励我们,我们都会变得懒惰。)” 因此A项“Giving in to (屈服于) laziness.(屈服于懒惰。)” 故选A。
空前““The most certain way to succeed,” Thomas Edison once said, “is always to try just one more time.”(托马斯·爱迪生曾经说过:“成功最可靠的方法就是再试一次。”)”说明了成功在于尝试,E项“Success never comes from not trying.(不尝试就永远不会成功)”可以承接上文;上文“succeed”和选项中“Success”是同根词复现。
空处上一句“If you are doing any of these, my suggestion is to think more carefully and see if you can move away from these practices.(如果你正在做这些,我的建议是更仔细地思考,看看你是否可以摆脱这些做法。)”鼓励人们要摆脱上文中提到的不良习惯,空格处应该说这么做的好处,D项“Once you do, you will be heading in a better direction.(一旦你这样做了,你就会朝着更好的方向前进。)”承接上文内容,说明了如果你摆脱上文的不好的习惯的好处,do指代上文的“to think more carefully and see if you can move away from these practices”,因此符合语境。故选D。

Despite some resistance the basic principles behind the 15-minute city are influencing planning in cities around the world, including Melbourne, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Singapore, and Shanghai.
Lead author Helen Keys said in a press release “Watching live sport of all types provides many opportunities for social interaction, and this contributes to forging group identity and belonging.”
