“Lives of great men all remind us that we can make our lives sublime (崇高的)” is a line from A Psalm of Life (《人生颂》) that Chen Lin read in a Learn video when he was 96 years old.
With a “life is to give, not to take” attitude, Chen Lin devoted his life to the development of foreign language education in China.
Born in 1922, Chen worked in foreign education for more than 70 years. In 1950, he started teaching at Beijing Foreign Studies University. At the university, Chen was known for his nickname of “Three UP Professor”, since he always insisted on “standing up” and “speaking up” when teaching. Also, when class was over, he would instantly “shut up”.
In the 1980s, in most English classes, teachers did most of the speaking, while students mostly only listened. But Chen encouraged students to speak and practice more. Outside of class, Chen still tried his best to popularize English among common people. In 1981, he took part in the TV program Follow Me (《跟我学》) and taught people English in a fun way, which started a craze for learning English.
In 1999, Chen led experts to develop English curriculum standards (课程标准). Before that, English teaching goals from primary to university were not connected. But the standards changed the situation, making English education work like “one package”.
To help students learn English more effectively, Chen advised providing suitable English-learning material for students at different levels. “I have been a teacher all my life, and I want to be an English teacher again in my next life.” Chen said.
“I think there is no more noble profession than to teach and make students useful to the people.”
24. What can we know according to the passage?

B. Most teachers encouraged students to speak and practice more in the 1980s.
C. Chen Lin was famous for his attitude toward life.

25. Why did Chen Lin teach people English in the TV program Follow Me?
A. To become more famous in China. B. To make English popular among common people.

A. Chen Lin decided to teach English again.
B. Chen Lin thought only teaching was a noble profession.
C. Chen Lin was proud of being an English teacher.
D. Chen Lin hoped more people could become English teachers.

You forget to bring your water bottle to the airport, so you buy a plastic one and keep refilling it. Or you order takeout for dinner and save the black plastic container to pack your lunch the next day. Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics? Experts say no.
Single-use plastics leach (滤出) chemicals and shed (释放) microplastics into your environment. Though studies have not directly compared single-use and reusable plastic, experts say they are more concerned about single-use plastics because of how they’re made. A single-use plastic water bottle sheds micro-and nanoplastics into your water when you refill it, and a takeout container or frozen meal tray sheds these particles into your food. Chemical exposure increases if plastic is heated, typically in a microwave, a dishwasher or even by placing hot food in a takeout container. When heat is applied, molecules move faster, meaning it could be easier for some of these particles to make its way into your food.
The danger of heating your plastic also applies to reusable plastic, like baby bottles and plastic storage containers, according to Judith Enck, president of Beyond Plastics. Research found that black plastic in sushi trays, and other objects contain high levels of flame retardants (延缓剂). These poisonous chemicals have been linked to physical and mental problems.
Concerns with chemicals and microplastics primarily apply to food, experts said, because you are swallowing them. Reusing single-use plastics like grocery bags is not a major concern, they added. The most important thing you should do is avoid subjecting your plastic to heat, experts agreed. “A pretty hard-and-fast rule is to never microwave plastic,” Enc k said. “And there’s also a recommendation not to put plastic into the dishwasher if it’s on a hot cycle.”
If you order takeout, it’s best to transfer the food to a nonplastic dish as soon as possible, and you should use a plate when microwaving your food.
28. Why does the author list examples in the first paragraph?
A. To lead in the topic. B. To prove the experts’ opinion.
C. To analyse the reason. D. To introduce background information.
29. What can we learn from the research?
A. Plastic bottles of good quality is encouraged to use.
B. It is the chemicals in the materials that cause trouble.
C. High temperature makes little difference to takeout food.
D. Reusable plastic is more dangerous than single-use plastic.
30. Which situation poses the biggest threat to human’s health?
A. Heating fast food in a glass bowl.
B. Filling the grocery bag with meat.
C. Packing cold drink with single-use plastics.
D. Ordering hot soup contained in a plastic bag.
31. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Stop Using Single-use Plastics

Or you order takeout for dinner and save the black plastic container to pack your lunch the next day. Reuse is one of the core rules of sustainability. But should you be reusing these single-use plastics? 故选A。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Single-use plastics leach (滤出) chemicals and shed (释放) microplastics into your environment. (一次性塑料会向环境中滤出化学物质并释放微塑料。)”以及“A single-use plastic water bottle sheds micro-and nanoplastics into your water when you refill it, and a takeout container or frozen meal tray sheds these particles into your food. Studies have shown that writing by hand can have enormous (极大的) beneficial impacts in terms of memory, brain development, and even the quality of writing itself.
Some might say that handwriting has become a dying art since the advent of the typewriter in the mid 1880s, even more so due to computers. In fact, nowadays, some schools in the United States no longer require teaching handwriting as a part of the main courses. However, despite the sense that writing on paper is out of fashion, it actually has a number of very important strengths.
Writing by hand is not only important for language processing and memory, but it is also important for mental development. In learning to write by hand, the human brain must combine feeling, movement control, and thinking. For whatever reason, it does not do so when learning to type.
Writing by hand is good for mental health, and there are some studies that can prove it. Writing on paper can help students recall material better than typing on a keyboard. Similarly, a study from 2014 shows that compared to writing by hand, taking notes on a laptop results in a less deep absorption of the learned material. This is because when using a laptop, students will often type out lectures word for word instead of processing information and rewording it in their own language.
These advantages actually translate to how you recall the information. In this case, writing by hand instead of typing also helps students do better on exams. Children write longer and more complex essays when they are writing by hand, compared with using a keyboard. Children usually do better writing with a pen when they write essays. They write more and faster.
The next time you want to sit down to write an email to a loved one, why not try writing a handwritten letter instead? It can be more beneficial to your brain. Plus, the personal touch of a handwritten letter can make your message even more special and memorable.
32. What does the underlined word “advent” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Rent. B. Request. C. Alarm. D. Appearance.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about handwriting?
A. Its requirements. B. Its types. C. Its development. D. Its advantages.
34. What happens when students use a laptop instead of a pen to take notes?
A. They have a lower understanding of the material.
B. They do better in writing essays.
C. They are less confident about their exams.
D. They recall more words.
35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A. To make a suggestion. B. To express thanks.
C. To honour loved ones. D. To share a personal experience.
【答案】32. D 33. D 34. A 35. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了手写对记忆、大脑发育及写作质量的益处,并对比了手写与键盘输入的区别。
【32题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Some might say that handwriting has become a dying art since the advent of the typewriter in the mid 1880s, even more so due to computers. (有人可能会说,自从19世纪80年代中期打字机的advent以来,手写就成了一门垂死的艺术,电脑的出现更是如此)”可知,此处表示自从打字机出现以来,手写就成了一门垂死的艺术。由此可知,划线词“advent”意为“出现”。故选D。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中“Writing by hand is not only important for language processing and memory, but it is also important for mental development. (手写不仅对语言处理和记忆很重要,而且对智力发展也很重要)”及随后具体说明手写需结合感觉、动作控制和思维,而打字无需如此,全段围绕手写的优势展开,即第三段主要告诉我们手写的优势。故选D。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Similarly, a study from 2014 shows that compared to writing by hand, taking notes on a laptop results in a less deep absorption of the learned material. This is because when using a laptop, students will often type out lectures word for word instead of processing information and rewording it in their own language. (同样,2014年的一项研究表明,与手写相比,用笔记本电脑做笔记对所学材料的吸收程度较低。这是因为在使用笔记本电脑时,学生们通常会逐字逐句地打出讲座内容,而不是处理信息并用他们自己的语言重新表述)”可知,当学生用笔记本电脑而不是笔做笔记时,他们对材料的理解程度较低。故选A。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The next time you want to sit down to write an email to a loved one, why not try writing a handwritten letter instead? It can be more beneficial to your brain. Plus, the personal touch of a handwritten letter can make your message even more special and memorable. (下次你想坐下来给心爱的人写封电子邮件时,为何不试试改成写一封手写书信呢?这对你的大脑更有益。此外,手写书信所蕴含的那份人情味,能让你的心意显得愈发特别且令人难忘。)”可知,最后一段以问题提出建议,鼓励用手写书信替代电子邮件,并说明其对大脑和情感表达的益处。由此推断,作者写最后一段的目的是提出建议。故选A。

How to Stay Calm No Matter Who Pushes Your Buttons
Have you ever felt like some people exist just to test your patience? ____36____ But guess what? You don’t have to let such people bother you. The following are some suggestions on becoming untouchable mentally, emotionally, and psychologically.
Master the Power of Not Caring
The first rule of never getting angry: realize that most people aren’t worth the energy it takes to get upset. Think about it — when someone cuts you off in traffic or deliberately tries to provoke (挑衅) you, what do you gain by reacting? ____37____
____38____
Stop letting other people’s opinions occupy space in your mind. Here’s your new motto: Not everyone’s opinion matters. Say it. Believe it. Live it. Unless someone is supporting you, feeding you, or holds a legal agreement with you, their opinions hold no real power.
Expect People to Be Inconsiderate
Accept this difficult truth: many people simply lack basic life awareness. This isn’t about lacking intelligence, ____39____. They will cut you off in traffic. They will reply with one-word texts. They will talk during movies. So change your approach: when someone says something rude, laugh. Not a forced, polite laugh — but a genuine, amused chuckle. It throws people off. After all, they expect anger, rather than amusement.
Build a High-Tolerance Mindset
Here’s the final step: train yourself to be unshakable. How? Practice. Stand in long lines without sighing or complaining. Scroll through social media without reacting to every annoying post. Let someone cut you off in traffic and simply nod. ____40____ Eventually, nothing will drive you mad.
Master these strategies, and you’ll walk through life with the calm of a Zen master and the confidence of a leader.
A. Find Someone Supporting You
B. Choose Whose Voice You Hear
C. it’s because they need opportunities to express themselves.
D. Anger only exhausts you, while the other person moves on without caring.
E. but about not realizing how their actions affect others.
F. The slow walkers, the loud eaters, the overly dramatic ones — yes, them.
G. The more you experience annoyances without reacting, the calmer you will become.

First we visit John, who is from Brazil. I call him “Football genius”. He plays football so well that he organized a football team to help other kids develop football skills, such as passing and ball control. Every time we reached the playground, we saw a group of sweaty kids running around a field with bright smiles.
Next we visit Daisy. I call her “The singer” because she has a great gift for singing. She loves to sing songs for us. Wherever she stays, her soft and sweet voice fills the air.
Then we visit David. I call him “Prince(王子)Joke”. He can do talk show, cross-talk(相声),tell jokes. Sometimes he laughs loudly while telling jokes, we could see his legs shaking up and down, his face turning red. Grandma and I can’t help laughing along with him.
One day, Grandma fell ill and had to stay in bed. She was in a low spirit and couldn’t move.
Sunday came. Grandma put my hand into her hand and told me “Rose given fragrance(芳香)in hand.” I understood what she meant, I bought a cake from shop and went to children’s home. Everyone was happy lo see me. They were disappointed when they didn’t see grandma. Knowing grandma was sick, they were sad. They prayed together for grandma’s recovery. After a while, I said goodbye to everyone.
A week later, grandma was still lying in bed. She could not walk or speak, what she could do was drink some milk. I begged her to go to hospital. She shook her head. I hid myself under the big tree in our yard so Grandma wouldn’t see tears on my cheeks.

【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Grandma opened her eyes and sat up. A confused look appeared on her pale face. Suddenly, a loud laughter came into my ears. “It’s David, the Joke Prince.” I shouted. “We miss you.” David rushed to grandma with a delicate cake in his hands. It was a nice-looking cake decorated with fruits in the shape of heart. “The cake is made by all children in the nursery home.” David said and switched on the recorder; a sweet voice filled the air. It was a song sung by Daisy. Magically, he took out a picture. In the picture, grandma was watching John’s football team playing football.
That evening, grandma called me in her bedroom. She said she was hungry. She drank a big bowl of porridge and tasted a bit of cake. A satisfied smile flashed on her face. Her eyes were shining with joy. With tears in her eyes, she hugged the recorder and picture into her arms. She told me she would go to hospital the next day. She was eager to recover soon to visit the lovely kids. “What a magic visit!” I whispered. Nothing is more fantastic than being needed and valued.

“Lives of great men all remind us that we can make our lives sublime (崇高)” is a line from A Psalm of Life (《人生颂》) that Chen Lin read in a Learn video when he was 96 years old.
A. Chen Lin was the leading expert in developing English curriculum standards.
B. Most teachers encouraged students to speak and practice more in the 1980s.
C Chen Lin was famous for his attitude toward life.
D. Chen Lin created Follow Me alone to encourage students to learn English.
25. Why did Chen Lin teach people English in the TV program Follow Me?
A. To become more famous in China. B. To make English popular among common people.
C. To encourage more people to attend his class. D. To show his fun way of teaching English.
26. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Chen Lin decided to teach English again.
B. Chen Lin thought only teaching was a noble profession.
C. Chen Lin was proud of being an English teacher.
D. Chen Lin hoped more people could become English teachers.
27. Which of the following words can best describe Chen Lin?
A. Humorous and generous. B. Devoted and enthusiastic.
C. Intelligent and independent. D. Energetic and honest.

34 What happens when students use a laptop instead of a pen to take notes?

____40____ Eventually nothing will drive you mad.

Every Sunday, Grandma and I walked to the Children’s home a few blocks away from our house. Grandma always brings a home-made cake to these children, who are of different nationalities and ages. Some are refugees (难民)who cannot talk in English, some are even disabled.
