When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, “I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault. The car broke down.” It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing to help change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to make the situation better. This is the winner’s key to success.
Winners are great at dealing with problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you would need to have your car examined more often. Or you might start to carry along with useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when you’re in need. For another example, if your workmate caused you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his fault rather than simply blame the person. You should accept the fact and find creative ways to work successfully, paying no attention to how your workmate failed to do his job well.
Another key to being a winner is to concentrate. For example, when I feel tense, it helps a lot to repeat words such as “calm”, “peace” or “focus”, either out loud or silently in my mind. It makes me feel more in control and increases my confidence. This is a habit that can be a powerful psychological tool.
8. According to the passage, which of the following is true about a loser?
A. He does nothing all day.
B. He doesn’t like helping others.
C. He often makes excuses when in trouble.
D. He never knows what the situation is like.
9. What does the underlined word “fact” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Your car broke down.
B. You were late for work.
C. Your workmate found fault with you.
D. Your workmate failed to do his job well.
10. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. How to become a winner of life. B. How to form a good habit.
C. How to be confident in yourself. D. How to concentrate on your job.
11. How does the author support his view?
A. By raising questions. B. By giving examples.
C. By listing words. D. By telling stories.
C 9. D 10. A 11. B

根据文章第二段中的“For another example, if your workmate caused you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his fault rather than simply blame the person. You should accept the fact and find creative ways to work successfully, paying no attention to how your workmate failed to do his job well.(另一个例子是,如果你的同事因为缺乏责任心或能力而在工作中给你带来问题,那就想办法解决他的错误,而不是简单地责怪这个人。你应该接受这个事实,并找到创造性的方法来成功地工作,而不要关注你的同事没有把工作做好。)”可知,这里的“fact”指的是同事没有把工作做好这一事实,即选项D“Your workmate failed to do his job well.(你的同事没有把工作做好。)”
根据文章第一段中的“However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to make the situation better. This is the winner’s key to success.(然而,如果你停止关注该责怪谁,而开始关注如何改善情况,你就可以对发生在你身上的事情拥有巨大的影响力。这是成功者的成功秘诀。)”以及全文可知,文章讲述的是成功的关键在于停止抱怨,积极寻找改进方法,因此本文主要讲述的是如何成为生活中的成功者。故选A。

If you think of the jobs robots could never do, you would probably put doctors and teachers at the top of the list. But, in some cases, they already perform better than doctors at diagnosing (诊断) illness. Also, some patients might feel more comfortable sharing personal information with a machine than a person. Could there be a place for robots in education after all?
British education expert Anthony Seldon thinks so. And he even has a date for the robot takeover of the classroom:2027. He believes robots will do the main job of transferring (传递) information and teachers will be like assistants. Intelligent robots will read students’ faces, movements and maybe even brain signals. Then they will transfer the information to each student. It’s not a popular opinion and it’s unlikely robots will ever have empathy (共情) and the ability to really connect with humans like another human can.
One thing is certain, though. A robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren’t enough teachers and 9-16 per cent of children under the age of 14 don’t go to school. Teachers all over the world are leaving because it is a difficult and lower-paid job and they feel overworked. That problem could be partly solved by robots.
Perhaps the question is not “Will robots replace teachers?” but “How can robots help teachers?”. Teachers waste a lot of time doing non-teaching work, including more than 11 hours a week marking homework. If robots could cut the time teachers spend marking homework and writing reports, teachers would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.
12. What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A. Drawing a conclusion. B. Giving an answer.
C. Presenting an example. D. Introducing the topic.
13. What does Anthony Seldon expect robots to do in the future?
A. Work as assistants. B. Do most teaching.
C. Send signals to one another. D. Have empathy like humans,
14. Why are robot teachers needed in some parts of the world?
A. Because robot teachers cost less. B. Because robot teachers teach better.
C. Because there aren’t enough teachers. D. Because robots can solve all problems.
15. What’s the text mainly about?
A. Shortage of teachers. B. Robots in education.
C. Information transferring. D. Intelligent medical assistants.
D 13. B 14. C 15. B

根据第一段中“If you think of the jobs robots could never do, you would probably put doctors and teachers at the top of the list. But, in some cases, they already perform better than doctors at diagnosing (诊断) illness. Also, some patients might feel more comfortable sharing personal information with a machine than a person.

One sunny afternoon, I brought my favorite stamp collection (集邮) to school, especially to show Luke a rare stamp (邮票) my uncle gave me. Luke loved it — he touched the stamps gently and said they were amazing. I felt happy to share it with him.
But the next morning, the rare stamp was gone (消失). I searched everywhere in my room but couldn’t find it. Then I thought: Luke was the only one who saw it. Did he take it?
The next day, I asked Luke angrily, “Did you take my stamp?” He looked shocked and said, “No! I’d never take your things. You’re my friend.” But I didn’t believe him. I spoke coldly, and Luke walked away, hurt.

A week later, when I was cleaning my desk, something fell out of my English book. I looked down and saw that my lost stamp was right there. My face turned red and I realized that I must have accidentally put it between the pages after showing it to Luke. I felt a wave of relief, but then guilt hit me hard. I’d accused my best friend without any proof and hurt his feelings deeply. I grabbed the stamp and ran out of the classroom, determined to find Luke and apologize.
I quickly ran toward Luke and he was surprised. He stepped back, clearly still upset. “Luke, I’m so sorry,” I said, holding out the stamp. “I found it in my book. I was wrong to doubt you. You’re my best friend, and I should never have treated you like that.” Luke stared at the stamp, then at me. After a moment, he smiled weakly. “I knew you’d find it,” he said. We hugged, and just like that, the awkward silence between us was gone. Our friendship, once broken, was now stronger than ever.

A How to become a winner of life. B. How to form a good habit.
C. How to be confident in yourself. D. How to concentrate on your job.
11. How does the author support his view?
A. By raising questions. B. By giving examples.
C. By listing words. D. By telling stories.
D

At a small country school, I had a best friend named Luke. My family was rich, but Luke’s family was poor. Even so, we were always together and had a great friendship. We played, did homework, and talked under the old banyan tree every day.
After that, we stopped talking and avoided each other. Our good friendship was broken, all because of the lost stamp.
