(本试卷总分100分,考试时间40分钟。)

第一节(共8小题;每小题5分,满分40分)》
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Kids today have access to a whole range of technology that their parents couldn't have
even dreamed would ever exist. They've become skilled in using smartphones far quicker
than us older generations and have easily taken to the "Hey,Google",commands of
today's speakers.
But it seems that their understanding of some "old"technology is not so
comprehensive.A new study,conducted by Explore Learning,presented a group of 10-
year-old schoolchildren with pictures of classroom items that were commonplace in their
parents'generation.
More than two thirds had no idea what the overhead projector was called, while 72%
couldn't guess what it was even used for.Guessing at its purpose, they threw out ideas
like“eye machine'”and“walkie talkie'”,with some saying it might be used“at the dentist'”
or“for experimenting”.
The confusion continued when they were presented with an old boombox()
radio. One child shouted,"Imagine if you had this boombox and you were just carrying it
around all day listening to music! That would be,like...harder!"Another excitedly called
out to the old radio,"Hey Google, play Roar by Katy Perry."
Commenting on the research,Amandeep Sanghera,Head of Maths and English at
Explore Learning, said, our "Back to School Rewind"survey has uncovered a
fascinating-and often hilarious-generational gap. It's remarkable to see just how
quickly classroom technology develops.Items that were everyday essentials (for
parents have become mysterious relics to their children in just two or three decades.
"This old-school tech might be gathering dust in the cupboard now,but it really
shows how quickly things can change in our classrooms. It's not just chalk that confuse
today's tech-savvy(精通科技的)kids一even the overhead projector is now a puzzling
thing from the past!”
"While it's amusing to see children puzzle over these outdated technologies,it's also
a reminder of the incredible opportunities modern tech offers in classrooms,Amandeep
Sanghera added.

Scott Nover,a journalist, was trying to log into a website on his laptop when he
found himself staring at a picture of a woodland creature wearing a jacket with flowers and
watermelon slices moving about. He had entered the strange new world of captchas
(验证码).
For years, people trying to shop online or log into social media accounts might be
pressed to complete bothersome but largely simple tasks-working out words in distorted
(type, clicking on pictures of buses, adding up numbers. Now those tasks are
getting odder and require more brain power.
Captcha is short for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and
Humans Apart. It was developed at the turn of this century to prevent bots from
disrupting (websites and their databases by pretending to be well-intentioned
human users. It challenges people to prove they are humans by presenting tasks that only
humans can solve.Companies use captchas to protect against bot attacks that can crash
their websites.
The companies and experts who design captchas have been doing all they can to stay
one step ahead of the bad actors figuring out how to break them.A cottage industry of
third-party captcha-solving firms has emerged.More alarmingly,so has technology that
can automatically solve simple tests, such as identifying photos of motorcycles and
reading distorted text.
"Software has gotten really good at labeling photos,"said Kevin Gosschalk, the
founder and CEO of Arkose Labs, which designs what it calls "prevention solutions",
including captchas."So now enters a new era of captchas-logic-based.
Arkose Labs employs a staff of artists, former game designers and experts to create
some of the more demanding tasks appearing during logins.Arkose says that even its
hardest challenges have a first-time solve rate of 94.6%0.Not all of its ideas make the cut.
The team once developed a Space Invaders-style game for users to get through, but it was
too hard for humans to complete on their first try.

With such a wide range of platforms and devices available to the everyday reader, the
physical book, while not yet extinct, may end up going that way.Why?9
With a rapid increase in digital reading platforms, reading is no longer a common
problem for bookworms.10 They're designed to simplify the process of reading on
the go.You can select a book,track your progress,and even submit reviews.With no
need to carry around physical books, readers are much more likely to pick up where they
left off whenever and wherever they may be.
Readers can also carry around their favourite books within an e-reader.Common
examples include the Amazon Kindle,Onyx Boox,and PocketBook.These hand-held
devices offer fantastic portability, readability and variety.11 They are much smaller
and lighter than physical books, making them an ideal option for those always on the go.
Social media has had a great effect on our reading habits. It governs our daily life.
With physical books no longer a key form of entertainment for children,it has been
replaced with digital alternatives.Social media and video games have replaced the ways in
which we traditionally read and tell stories.12
As is known to us all, technology has changed the ways in which we read at home as
well as in the classroom.13 Exposure to the digital potential of reading is introduced
at an early age.Virtual learning platforms have also exploded in popularity in recent
years.Technology in the classroom is no longer a luxury but a necessity to keep up with
the modern age.
