Yang Chen-Ning, a world-famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner, passed away in Beijing on October 18, 2025. He was a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University wrote about his death and described him as immortal (不朽的) for his influence on science and education will last forever.
Born in 1922 in Hefei, Anhui Province, Yang moved to Beijing with his family in 1929. His university studies began at the National Southwestern Associated University in 1938, followed by a master’s degree from Tsinghua University in 1944. ①Do you want to have a better memory? When we study, we often hope what we learn can stay in our minds. Here are some useful ways to improve our memory.
②According to experts, we can learn things better if we wait for a while before studying them again. After some time of forgetting, trying to recall what we learned will make it easier to remember in the future.
③Studies show that taking a short break and doing nothing after studying can also help us remember things better. We don’t know exactly why this happens. Maybe it has something to do with the relationship between long-term and short-term memory.
④Another study tip is to change between different topics as you study. This can help us connect different ideas. Jonathan Hancock, a former world memory champion, says that imagining pieces of information in different places or connecting them with memorable pictures can make them easier to remember. This can help you make connections between different ideas.
⑤Many other experts also suggest that we should get enough rest and exercise. For example, getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep every night can help our brains consolidate (巩固) memories. Things like jogging, swimming, and cycling can make more blood (血液) flow to our brains. More blood means more oxygen (氧气) and nutrients (营养) for our brain cells. If your phone falls into water, here’s what you should do. First, take it out of the water quickly. Then, use a clean cloth to dry it. You can even use your shirt. Try to turn the phone off. If you can, take out the SIM card and the phone’s case (手机保护壳).
