Characters
Nasrettin: a wise man Ahmet: a guest
Serkan: the host Berna: the servant (仆人)
Narrator: a person who tells a story
Narrator: One day Nasrettin saw a goat making a mess in a kitchen. He helped the owner catch it and then hurried to a dinner. He arrived at the home of his rich friend in his worn-out coat. He was also dirty and smelling of goat.
Serkan: [quite surprised by his friend’s shabby appearance] Nasrettin, come in. My servant will seat you.
Berna: [sniffing (嗅) the smelly coat] Follow me to the far end of the table, sir.
Ahmet: It is Nasrettin, at the end of the table. He keeps trying to start a conversation, but who wants to talk to such a shabby man?
Nasrettin: [saying to himself] Each of my friends wears his best coat, while I sit here, alone and hungry, in my worn-out coat—dirty and smelling of goat. I’d rather go home.
Narrator: So, Nasrettin left quickly on his grey donkey. At home, he bathed in hot water, washed himself clean, and dressed in a shining silk coat. Everyone nodded respectfully to Nasrettin as he headed back to his rich friend’s home.
Serkan: [smiling] Welcome, my friend. Servant, seat Nasrettin at the best place and serve him our finest food and drink at once!
Ahmet: [smiling to Nasrettin] What a fine coat you are wearing!
Berna: Some nice lamb chop, sir?
Nasrettin: Thank you [putting the lamb chop inside his coat]. Eat, Eat, coat!
Berna: May I interest you in delicious fried fish, sir?
Nasrettin: Yes, thank you [opens his coat to put in food]. Eat, Eat, coat!

Nasrettin: You surely wanted my coat to eat. When I first got here, with my worn-out coat, there was no food for me. Yet when I returned in this new coat, there was every kind of food. This means it was the coat, and not me, that you invited to your dinner
Serkan: How silly I am!

Nora Shawki achieved her lifelong goal of becoming an archeologist (考古学家), but there were challenges (挑战) along the way. Here’s her story.
When I was in the third grade, I watched a video that reproduced the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb (墓穴). I remember Howard Carter’s looking through a small hole in the tomb with a candle. A workman asked what he could see. “Wonderful things”, Carter said. From that moment, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.
Today, I’m lucky to work as an archeologist. I study the lives of people who lived in Egypt’s Nile Delta (尼罗河三角洲). It’s exciting work. Sometimes you find something buried three thousand years ago. Holding a piece of history feels amazing.
So I decided what I wanted to be at the age of nine, and I made it come true. Seems easy, right? Not quite! The road wasn’t easy. I did my studies— university, then a PhD. But along the way many people told me: I was too young, I wasn’t good enough, I was so old that I should have a husband and then have children. I also needed money, so I applied for six grants (补助金). The first five said no. Six months later, the last one came: This time it was yes. Finally, I could start my own excavation (挖掘).
For anyone thinking about a future job, I want to say: Never give up. If you want to do something, keep trying. If people say no, use that—it will push you to do better. At the beginning, it is really hard. It will make you stronger and actually help you a lot.
Second, focus on your goals. And I mean yours. You don’t have to do what other people do. If they say something has never been done, make it happen. You may be the first to do it. There are always challenges, but you are sure to overcome them in the end.
28. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 2?

B. To explain how Shawki started her dream.
C. To describe what Howard Carter found in the hole.
D. To give advice on how to become an archeologist.

A. Others didn’t agree with her job choice.
B. It was difficult to get money for her work.
C. She didn’t do well in her study at school.
D. She needed to take care of her family.
30. Who does the underlined word “yours” refer to?
A. Your challenges. B. Your goals. C. Your job. D. Your friends.
31. What may be the best title for the passage?
A. A Day in the Life of an Archeologist.

①There is a lot of kitchen waste in every family each day. Most people throw it away, but some are thinking about how to turn this waste into treasure. In 2025, designers Cao Biru and Wang Yiqing noticed the problem during a community survey—70% of waste from homes was something like banana peels and coffee grounds (咖啡渣), which ended up in landfills (垃圾填埋场).
②To solve this, they spent 18 months creating a special 3D printer (打印机) called the FOODres. The idea was simple: help common people turn kitchen waste into useful items. The printer can process different kinds of food waste and shape them into cups, bowls, or storage boxes.
③This printer is AI-guided and user-friendly. It’s easy for everyone to use, even if they have no experience of 3D printing. First, users take a photo of their food waste using its special app. The app uses AI to tell what kind of waste it is and if it’s suitable for printing.
④Next, the app advises what printable things (“recipes”) users could make. With this information in hand, the printer then makes the food waste into a printable bioplastic paste (生物塑料糊状物).
⑤After that, the printer heats and shapes the paste into the chosen item. The process is completely hands-off and the machine does everything from processing to printing.
⑥________ Food waste is a common problem around the world—the world wastes over 1 billion meals every day. Most of them end up in landfills, and this is bad for air. Now this printer can help people use food waste by giving it “a second life” instead of throwing it away. A café in Chengdu turned 2kg of coffee grounds into 10 plant pots in a week, cutting waste by 30%.
⑦The team plan to test the 3D printer in daily life. According to them, the printer can reuse millions of pounds of food waste and help lots of families in need. They want to add more “recipes” to the app and work with schools to teach recycling. In the future, they hope every community can have a shared FOODres.
32. What is the FOODres printer mainly used for?
A. To turn food waste into useful daily items.
B. To take photos of different kinds of food waste.
C. To teach people how to sort kitchen waste.
D. To help cafes cut down their waste by 30%.
33. Which sentence can be put in the ________?
A. But the printer is too expensive to buy.
B. However, not everyone likes this printer.
C. The printer is even good for the planet.
D. It’s possible to make more printers soon.
34. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The FOODres printer will soon be used in every community in China.
B. The FOODres printer can make a difference to the food waste problem.
C. 70% of the world’s food waste comes from Chinese homes.
D. AI technology is not helpful for the FOODres printer to work.
35. What is the best structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.

阅读下文并回答问题。
Recently, community canteens have become popular among young people. At first they mostly served old people, as these people might have difficulties in cooking. However, as many young people cannot cook, now these canteens have become perfect places for the old and the young to become meal partners. You can order a pretty good lunch at a community canteen in Hangzhou for only 20 yuan. It includes a meat dish, a vegetable dish and a bowl of rice. The dishes have a home-cooked taste, just as you can expect.
Now about 70 percent of the customers are young people. Community canteens do a lot to win those young people’s hearts. Community canteens meet the eating habits of young people. For example, they have meals including a main dish, a bowl of rice, soup, fruit and salad. That can help young people to eat balanced meals to keep fit.
Another canteen at a community in Zhejiang province introduced “happiness mystery boxes (盲盒)”. One box costs just 6 yuan but has one meat dish and a vegetarian dish. To keep what’s inside each box a surprise, the boxes are covered with paper. The “mystery boxes” are quite popular among young people there.
The canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community even introduced self-service meals with low price. This price is much lower than that of the restaurants nearby. The dishes there are priced at just 2.48 yuan per 100g. The news of it has spread in and out of the neighborhood in the past few months. Although it’s only a community canteen, it can just as easily be described as a Western restaurant.

Have you heard the saying “Tidy space, tidy mind”? The new year is a wonderful time to clear out all the things you no longer need. It not only helps you start fresh but also brings many other great benefits.
Maybe you get a lot of new clothes, toys, or books at Christmas from your friends and family, and you can’t find a place to store them in your room. Cold, windy weather means spending more time indoors playing games or drawing. So you need to take things out to use or play with. Before you realize it, your bedroom gets messy.
Having a big clear-out of things you don’t want or use anymore can make you feel really good. A scientist points out that a messy space can overload your brain. It can also distract you from the things you need to focus on. If there are messy items around you, you may easily feel stressed, and it will even be much harder for you to make decisions. When your room is clean and tidy, you won’t have to spend too much time looking for what you need, and you will feel that everything is in order. This way, you can save lots of time and space to do things you enjoy and have a good time.
Tidying up does take more time, energy, and effort, and it can be a challenge for almost everyone. Luckily, the scientist also tells us some practical ways to get it done. For example, you can start small by clearing one item at a time. You can also try setting a timer and racing against yourself to see how many things you can tidy up in 10 minutes. What’s more, you can listen to music while tidying to make the whole process more fun. You can ask your friends for help to decide what to keep and what to give away. Additionally, you can get inspiration by thinking about how you will make use of all the free space once you finish tidying.
“Tidy space, tidy mind”. And the new year is a perfect time for clearing out useless things. ____59____ make bedrooms messy because there’s no room to store things. A scientist says messy space can overload the brain, cause stress and make it harder for us to make decisions, while a tidy room helps you become ____60____ than before. Most people think tidying up is hard and tiring. ____61____ —like clearing one item at a time, racing against a timer, or ____62____. Asking friends for help and imagining the free space also helps with tidying.

Narrator: So Nasrettin left quickly on his grey donkey.
Serkan: Old friend, tell me, why are you feeding your coat?
Nasrettin: You surely wanted my coat to eat. When I first got here, with my worn-out coat, there was no food for me. Yet when I returned in this new coat, there was every kind of food. This means it was the coat, and not me, that you invited to your dinner
Serkan: How silly I am!
Nasrettin: Remember, my friend, a fine coat does not make a man. Many a good man may be found in a shabby coat.
Serkan: Let us celebrate your wisdom!

A. B.
C. D.
