B High school students dug deep into their studies this summer, participating in the Youth Leadership Program of Green Village Initiative (GVI) while also earning college credits from Housatonic Community College (HCC). The new and original partnership between the two organizations allowed students to earn four college credits in Biology and immerse themselves in the lively learning environment of GVI’s Reservoir Community Farm. Eight students, aged 14 — 18, participated in the strict eight-week program. For six days each week, students attended online learning while taking HCC’s Plants and Civilization Course. The farm served as an outdoor lab for the class, where students learned about the process of seed to table, food access and sustainability, food deserts, food justice and more. “Students learn better when they’re getting their hands dirty,” said Ofonime Udo-Okon, manager of GVI’s Youth Leadership Program. “HCC is setting an example as to what integrated learning can look like.” On Bridgeport’s only urban educational farm, the students, who all either live or attend school in Bridgeport, were transformed into young food leaders. Through their studies and hands-on instruction, each learned their role in the food system, and how to make a positive change. “I wanted to be in the program so I can give back to the community,” said Sariah Cohen, a 15-year-old sophomore at Bridgeport’s Central High School. “I like the practice that we provide the community with fresh, inexpensive food.” GVI’s Youth Leadership Program is rooted in food justice, addressing the reality that low-income people are severely impacted by food insecurity, poor access to nutritious food, and the resulting diet-related illnesses. The program teaches young people how to take action to remove food barriers and provide access to healthy produce for Bridgeport’s community. “GVI is a jewel in the city that can sustain our future,” said Robin Avant, HCC’s Dean of Academic Affairs. “Seeing the youth deeply embedded in soil is remarkable. As they grow crops, the students are growing their independent knowledge and experiences, while building agriculture sustainability plans that are critical to food justice.” 4. How does the partnership between GVI and HCC benefit the students? A. It offers students the chance to study abroad. B. It encourages cooperation among learners. C. It teaches students abundant knowledge about food insecurity. D. It combines online learning with hands-on experience. 5. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 imply? A. Students prefer working the land to learning in class. B. Students need to wash their hands before entering the lab. C. Active engagement and real-life experience help learning. D. Working on a farm teaches students important life skills. 6. What is the main concern that GVI’s Youth Leadership Program aims to address? A. Discrimination against poor people. B. Uneven accessibility to healthy food. C. Research on nutrition-related issues. D. Income inequality among different jobs. 7. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The far-reaching impact of GVI. B. The commercial value of GVI. C. The rapid development of GVI. D. The extensive popularity of GVI. C It was April 1, 1911, and 32-year-old Albert Einstein sat in a train with his family, traveling from Zurich to Prague, where Einstein had landed a job as a full professor in Charles University. He had a few things on his mind, but the most critical was his unfinished theory of relativity. When they left the city 15 months later, Einstein would have cracked the code. What happened over the course of this long, mysterious time period in Prague is the question driving Ken Krimstein’s new graphic novel (连环画小说) Einstein in Kafkaland. Part biography, part historical fiction, the book combines comics and watercolors to create a thought-provoking read. Throughout, cartoon- Einstein sports (故意显示) his characteristic pipe alongside a signature frizzy head of hair, but it’s his obsessive reflections that perhaps most effectively signal what has become Einstein-the-character. Krimstein pairs Einstein’s story with that of Franz Kafka, who was 28, virtually unpublished, and living with his parents in a house in Prague. Both men share an enthusiasm for uncovering the “true truth”. For both, a journey to find this truth, whether in science or literature, is one that will sometimes cause them pain but may ultimately bind them to others. During Einstein’s time in Prague, he worked out his theory of relativity, while Kafka had his own breakthrough, penning The Judgment. Despite his title, Krimstein centers his book unevenly, focusing mainly on Einstein, and taking us step by step through the deep thinking that leads to his discovery. However, along the way he also provides readers with a glimpse into the life of Kafka and imagines conversations between him and Einstein. These discussions explore what it means to see the world differently from everyone else. Krimstein blends intellectual history with biographical details, describing Einstein’s debates with colleagues, thought experiments, and everyday life. He shows Einstein engaging in discussions with physicists like Max Abraham and Paul Ehrenfest, as well as conducting thought experiments with his family. At its heart, Einstein in Kafkaland is a story of ordinary geniuses. It demonstrates how extraordinary discoveries often arise from ordinary circumstances and develop through exchanges with others - friends, family, colleagues, and even rivals. The book emphasizes that works of genius typically emerge through dialogs and interaction, rather than in isolation. 8. What is the main focus of Einstein in Kafkaland? A. A series of lifelike cartoons of Einstein. B. Kafka’s literary breakthrough in Prague. C. The comparison between Einstein and Kafka. D. Einstein’s development of the theory of relativity. 9. What does Krimstein say about Einstein and Kafka in his book? A. They are opponents competing for recognition. B. They are parallel figures with similar pursuit. C. They are frustrated beginners in their own field. D. They are representatives of science and literature. 10. How does Krimstein describe Einstein’s intellectual journey? A. By listing his life events in order of time. B. By comparing him to contemporary figures. C. By mixing the study of ideas with personal stories. D By focusing on his scientific papers and publications. 11 What does the book suggest about the nature of groundbreaking discoveries? A. They are driven by personal ambition. B. They rely on communication with others. C. They are rooted in logical reasoning. D. They are typically accidental and unplanned. D Penguins swim with speed and grace, but on land, they’re an adorable mess, lifting their fat bodies to and fro to move one little leg in front of the other. However, the cartoonish walk is among the most efficient in the animal kingdom. Back in 2000, Timothy M. Griffin of the University of California at Berkeley and Rodger Kram of the University of Colorado studied the biomechanics of the penguin’s classic waddle They persuaded five emperor penguins to waddle across a special platform designed to measure the force of each step, along with the direction of that force and the speed at which each bird was moving. They found penguins’ short legs and big feet might not be the best tools for getting around on land, but waddling is the best way to use the tools they’ve got. Walking efficiency doesn’t just come down to bones and muscles—it’s also about the way we use them. The human gait (步态) is impressively efficient, mostly because we fall forward, using the help of gravity to push us forward. That extra help saves us 65 percent of the energy our muscles would need if we relied on their force alone. That 65 percent figure is known as our energy recovery rate. Griffin and Kram measured emperor penguins’ energy recovery rate. It was 80 percent- -among the highest of any land animal. However, that doesn’t mean penguins don’t use much energy to get around on land. They expend twice as much energy as any other land animal their size on dry lands. Having short legs and big feet that are difficult to move along the ground is the steep price they pay for being good swimmers. Still, with their regular long and hard journey to nesting grounds and the ease with which they hop over obstacles and climb over slopes, they’re not doing too badly for themselves. In fact, penguins may help humans out in the long run. “Our knowledge gained from penguins provides novel insight into the gait mechanics of humans with increased lateral (横向的) movements, such as in pregnant women or fat individuals,” Griffin said. “This information may lead to improved understanding, evaluation and treatment of individuals with gait disabilities.” 12. What’s the primary focus of the study conducted in 2000? A. The energy efficiency of penguins’ walking gait. B. The force used when penguins swim and waddle. C. The parts of the body involved in penguins’ movement. D. The reasons why penguins swim faster than they walk. 13. Why is the human gait considered efficient according to the text? A. It minimizes lateral movement. B. It relies heavily on muscle force. C. It requires less energy than penguins. D. It uses gravity to assist forward movement. 14 Why do penguins consume more energy than other land animals of similar size? A. It’s difficult for them to adapt to land environments. B. Their legs are too short to support efficient movement. C. Some of their physical features make movement hard. D. Their unique waddling style requires more muscle effort. 15. How might the study of penguins’ gait benefit humans? A. It helps humans conserve energy while walking. B. It increases humans’ speed of lateral movement. C. It provides insights into gait mechanics for certain individuals. D It helps design better shoes for pregnant women and fat individuals. How to Improve Debating Skills Debating is a subjective judgment, so debaters may apply different methods at different times. ____16____. He was paralyzed from the waist down. As a keen runner, soccer player and skier, he couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that he may never walk again. He spent nine days in the ICU in Duluth and was then airlifted to Craig Hospital in Colorado — which Mason said is one of the top hospitals for paralysis rehabilitation — where he spent about four months in rehab (康复). He returned to Craig regularly to receive more treatment and did regular physical therapy sessions at home, gradually increasing the amount of steps he could take and building his muscles. Mason’s parents raised him to focus on the good and while at Craig, he became more optimistic. The first time he got in a wheelchair in rehab, he felt so free. He said, “In this really hard situation, I’m given freedom and independence. And I’ve always been so grateful for my wheelchair. People look at the wheelchair, feel sorry for me and say, ‘It’s awful to be limited to using a wheelchair.’ But this wheelchair doesn’t limit me. It’s actually my freedom.” After rehab, Mason returned home to Minnesota where he became the homecoming king. And after graduating high school, he decided to go back to Colorado, enrolling at the University of Denver, which is near Craig Hospital — a place he now visits not as a patient, but as a mentor. Still, for Mason, being in a wheelchair is not easy. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Mason makes up his mind, his world changes. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025年全国高考名校名师联席命制 英语信息卷(一) 本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 How much is the shirt? D 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段“The new and original partnership between the two organizations allowed students to earn four college credits in Biology and immerse themselves in the lively learning environment of GVI’s Reservoir Community Farm.(这两个组织之间新的和原始的合作伙伴关系使学生能够获得生物学的四个大学学分,并沉浸在GVI水库社区农场的生动学习环境中)”和第二段“For six days each week, students attended online learning while taking HCC’s Plants and Civilization Course.(每周有六天的时间,学生们一边在线学习,一边学习HCC的植物与文明课程)”可知,学生们既可以参加胡萨托尼克社区学院的在线学习课程,也能在GVI的农场进行亲身实践,这是二者合作对学生的好处。 根据第二段“The farm served as an outdoor lab for the class, where students learned about the process of seed to table, food access and sustainability, food deserts, food justice and more.(这个农场是这个班级的户外实验室,学生们在这里学习了从种子到餐桌的过程、食物的获取和可持续性、食物沙漠、食物正义等等)”可知,学生在农场这个户外实验室学到了很多课本外的内容。 根据第四段“GVI’s Youth Leadership Program is rooted in food justice, addressing the reality that low-income people are severely impacted by food insecurity, poor access to nutritious food, and the resulting diet-related illnesses.(GVI的青年领导力项目植根于粮食正义,旨在解决低收入人群受到粮食不安全、难以获得营养食品以及由此引发的饮食相关疾病严重影响的现实问题)”可知,该计划主要关注的是低收入群体获取健康食品的机会不均衡的问题。 根据最后一段““GVI is a jewel in the city that can sustain our future,” said Robin Avant, HCC’s Dean of Academic Affairs. “Seeing the youth deeply embedded in soil is remarkable. As they grow crops, the students are growing their independent knowledge and experiences, while building agriculture sustainability plans that are critical to food justice.”(“GVI是这座城市的一颗宝石,可以支撑我们的未来,”HCC教务处主任罗宾·阿万特说。“看到年轻人深深扎根于土壤中是非常了不起的。在种植作物的同时,学生们也在积累自己的独立知识和经验,同时制定对粮食公正至关重要的农业可持续发展计划。”)”可知,罗宾·阿文特提到了参加GVI的青年领导力计划的年轻人在农业实践中逐渐获得知识和经验,并指出他们正在构建对食品正义至关重要的农业可持续发展计划,可知,最后一段说明了GVI的意义和产生的深远影响。故选A项。 C It was April 1, 1911, and 32-year-old Albert Einstein sat in a train with his family, traveling from Zurich to Prague, where Einstein had landed a job as a full professor in Charles University. D. By focusing on his scientific papers and publications. 11. What does the book suggest about the nature of groundbreaking discoveries? A. They are driven by personal ambition. B. They rely on communication with others. C. They are rooted in logical reasoning. D. They are typically accidental and unplanned. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段中的“It was April 1, 1911, and 32-year-old Albert Einstein sat in a train with his family, traveling from Zurich to Prague, where Einstein had landed a job as a full professor in Charles University. He had a few things on his mind, but the most critical was his unfinished theory of relativity. (那是1911年4月1日,32岁的阿尔伯特·爱因斯坦和他的家人坐在一列火车上,从苏黎世前往布拉格,爱因斯坦在那里找到了一份查尔斯大学正教授的工作。他心里有几件事,但最关键的是他未完成的相对论。)”以及第三段中的“During Einstein’s time in Prague, he worked out his theory of relativity, while Kafka had his own breakthrough, penning The Judgment. (在爱因斯坦在布拉格期间,他完成了相对论理论,而卡夫卡也有自己的突破,写下了《判决》。)”可知,这本连环画小说的主要内容是关于爱因斯坦在布拉格期间对相对论理论的发展,而不是关于爱因斯坦的连环画、卡夫卡在布拉格的文学突破或爱因斯坦和卡夫卡的比较。故选D项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Krimstein pairs Einstein’s story with that of Franz Kafka, who was 28, virtually unpublished, and living with his parents in a house in Prague. (Krimstein将爱因斯坦的故事与28岁的弗朗茨·卡夫卡的故事相提并论,卡夫卡当时几乎未发表过作品,和他的父母一起住在布拉格的一所房子里。)”和“Both men share an enthusiasm for uncovering the ‘true truth’. (这两个人都热衷于揭露‘真正的真相’。)”可知,Krimstein在书中将爱因斯坦和卡夫卡描述为具有相似追求的平行人物。故选B项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“However, along the way he also provides readers with a glimpse into the life of Kafka and imagines conversations between him and Einstein. (然而,在这一路上,他还为读者提供了对卡夫卡生活的一瞥,并想象了他和爱因斯坦之间的对话。)”和第五段第一句“Krimstein blends intellectual history with biographical details, describing Einstein’s debates with colleagues, thought experiments, and everyday life. (Krimstein将知识史与传记细节相结合,描述了爱因斯坦与同事的辩论、思想实验和日常生活。)”可知,Krimstein通过将思想研究与个人故事相结合来描述爱因斯坦的求知之旅。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段最后一句“It demonstrates how extraordinary discoveries often arise from ordinary circumstances and develop through exchanges with others - friends, family, colleagues, and even rivals. The book emphasizes that works of genius typically emerge through dialogs and interaction, rather than in isolation. (它展示了非凡的发现往往源于平凡的环境,并通过与他人(朋友、家人、同事甚至竞争对手)的交流而发展。这本书强调,天才的作品通常是通过对话和互动而产生的,而不是孤立的。)”可知,这本书认为开创性的发现依赖于与他人的交流,并且B项中的communication with others与原文中exchanges with others、dialogs and interaction相呼应。故选B项。 D Penguins swim with speed and grace, but on land, they’re an adorable mess, lifting their fat bodies to and fro to move one little leg in front of the other. 14. Why do penguins consume more energy than other land animals of similar size? D. It helps design better shoes for pregnant women and fat individuals. A 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第二段第一句“Back in 2000, Timothy M. Griffin of the University of California at Berkeley and Rodger Kram of the University of Colorado studied the biomechanics of the penguin’s classic waddle (摇摆地行走).(早在 2000 年,加州大学伯克利分校的蒂莫西・M・格里芬和科罗拉多大学的罗杰・克拉姆就研究了企鹅经典摇摆行走的生物力学。)” 故选A项。 根据第三段第二句“The human gait (步态) is impressively efficient, mostly because we fall forward, using the help of gravity to push us forward.(人类的步态效率极高,主要是因为我们向前摔倒,借助重力推动我们向前。)” 根据第四段第二句“They expend twice as much energy as any other land animal their size on dry lands. Having short legs and big feet that are difficult to move along the ground is the steep price they pay for being good swimmers.(在陆地上,它们消耗的能量是同等体型的其他陆地动物的两倍。它们有着短腿和大脚,在地面上移动困难,这是它们作为优秀游泳者所付出的高昂代价。)”可知,企鹅比同等体型的其他陆地动物消耗更多能量是因为它们的一些身体特征使得移动变得困难。故选C项。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段第二句“Our knowledge gained from penguins provides novel insight into the gait mechanics of humans with increased lateral (横向的) movements, such as in pregnant women or fat individuals,(我们从企鹅身上获得的知识为横向运动增加的人类,如孕妇或肥胖个体的步态力学提供了新的见解。)” How to Improve Debating Skills Debating is a subjective judgment, so debaters may apply different methods at different times. ____16____. They can help you get your points across clearly and effectively, leaving little room for your opponents to question and inspiring responses and participation of the audience. Strategic Arguments Organize your thoughts before you speak. Before you start, think through the chronological order (时间顺序) in which you want to present your statements. Then, start with a powerful statement and support your comments with research and viewpoints from professionals in the field. ____17____. So the listeners and opponents will examine what might happen if they choose not to support your arguments. ____18____ Focus on ways you might improve your body language. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Still, for Mason, being in a wheelchair is not easy. It takes him longer to do most things people take for granted, like getting in his car. And on several occasions, his dad carried him on his back up flights of stairs when there was no elevator available. But all of these challenges don’t prevent him from playing sports and living life to the full even though he can only take a few steps here and there. Finally he realizes it’s time to just live life to the full. When Mason makes up his mind, his world changes. He works out in his wheelchair and also learns to play adaptive tennis in his chair. Not only that, Mason also finds a way to help others. He starts sharing his daily activities on the Internet to connect with others who have physical disabilities. And then, it just keeps evolving and more people catch on to his story. Sharing these normal activities can inspire countless people, including those who are not paralyzed. His approach to life not only changes the way he interacts with the world, but also fulfills his dream of helping people. 词汇激活 行为类 阻止:prevent…from…/hinder…from… 意识到:realize/be aware of 实现:fulfill/realize 联系:connect with/get in touch with/reach out to 情绪类 激励:inspire/motivate 【点睛】[高分句型1] He starts sharing his daily activities on the Internet to connect with others who have physical disabilities.
