Hello listeners and welcome to Craft and Chat.
Do you love DIY? You’re not alone! DIY is getting more and more popular every year. Today, we’re talking about DIY and its popularity with young people.
So... why do so many young people enjoy DIY? For lots of reasons! First, it’s a wonderful way to get creative. There are thousands of different DIY projects and each project lets people show their creativity in new ways! Since young people are often looking for ways to express creative ideas, their interest in DIY makes sense.
Second, DIY can help reduce stress. Many young people today are dealing with stress. When people work with their hands, their minds often start to relax. Instead of thinking about their daily worries, they have to focus on the project at hand. As a result, their stress often goes away.
Third, young people can make special friendships through DIY. They can meet people with similar interests and share their ideas with each other. They can even work on exciting projects together.
These are just some of the reasons for DIY’s popularity. Next, I’ll talk to a DIY expert, Joan Zhang. She’ll give us some examples of how DIY can improve our lives. Keep listening for that!

A.One B.Two C.Three D.Four

Lidong, or the Beginning of Winter, is the 19th solar term of a year in the Chinese lunar calendar. It marks the beginning of winter.
At this time of year, the northern hemisphere (北半球) is receiving less and less sunlight. Temperatures begin to fall in most parts of China. But there is still a bit of heat from summer and autumn. So it is not too cold on the day of Lidong.
Our ancestors (祖先) believed that the keyword for Lidong was storage. All creatures start to prepare for the long winter. Farmers have already stored their crops and have begun to prepare for a winter break. For animals like snakes and squirrels, after searching for food busily in autumn, it’s time to sleep through the winter.
The Beginning of Winter was an important festival in ancient times. On that day, the king would lead his officials to hold the ceremony (仪式) of “welcoming the winter”. Nowadays, some people choose to have swimming competitions in icy rivers to celebrate.
On the day of Lidong, there is a custom called “nourishing the winter”. To prepare for the coming cold days, people begin to eat more high-calorie (高热量的) foods. Fresh vegetables, tofu and food rich in vitamins (维生素) are also necessary. People in southern China like to eat chicken, duck, fish and other meats. In northern China, people usually eat jiaozi (dumplings).
Why do people eat dumplings on that day? It is said that this custom was first adopted in memory of Zhang Zhongjing. According to a story, the Medical Saint (医圣) saw the poor suffering from chilblains (冻疮) on their ears. He then made dumplings stuffed with herbs (药草) and other ingredients to help them drive away the cold. Since the dumplings were shaped like ears, he named them “Jiao’er”. From then on, eating dumplings on Lidong became a tradition. On the day of the Beginning of Winter, all kinds of dumplings are popular.

Camping has become a popular activity for teenagers during holidays. It allows them to enjoy nature, make friends, and experience outdoor life. However, camping without following safety rules can lead to serious dangers. Learning basic camping safety is essential for every teen who wants to go camping.
First, choosing a safe campsite is important. Avoid places near rivers with fast-flowing water—heavy rain could cause floods. Also, stay away from dead trees, as they might fall down in strong winds. A flat and open area with no sharp rocks is the best choice for setting up a tent.
Second, preparing the right equipment is necessary. Bring a waterproof tent to keep out rain, and a warm sleeping bag even if the weather seems hot—temperatures can drop a lot at night. Don’t forget a first-aid kit with bandages, antiseptic (消毒液), and painkillers for small injuries like cuts or insect bites. Also, carry enough clean water and non-perishable food (不易变质的食物) like canned meat and dried fruits.
Third, knowing how to deal with emergencies matters. If you get lost, stay in one place and use a whistle to signal for help—three short blows are a standard distress signal (求救信号). Never try to pick wild fruits or mushrooms, as some may be poisonous. In case of a fire, use water or sand to put it out, and never leave the fire unattended.
Following these safety rules can help teenagers have a fun and safe camping trip. Remember, safety should always come first when enjoying outdoor activities.

B.Because dead trees could fall down in strong winds.
C.Because the ground near dead trees is usually uneven.

54.What should teenagers do if they get lost while camping?
A.Walk around to look for their friends.
B.Pick wild fruits to eat.
C.Stay in one place and use a whistle to signal for help.

Have you ever stopped to look closely at a moss growing on a stone or a giant redwood reaching for the sky? Our planet is full of amazing living things, from the fastest cheetah to the tiniest ant. But these plants and animals don’t live alone. They are all connected in a web of life called an ecosystem.
Every living thing plays a role in this network. For example, bees and butterflies are very important for pollination. They carry pollen from flower to flower. 56 Without this action, many plants couldn’t make fruits or seeds. Bees also communicate with each other to find food and then store sweet honey in their honeycomb.
57 They help to break down dead plants and animals, cleaning the forest and making the soil rich. This process is like magic —it removes decaying (腐烂) matter, and at the same time, creates nutrient-rich (富营养的) food for living plants. This amazing cycle shows how everything in nature is connected-even death gives life to new growth.
Sadly, human activities sometimes break these connections. When we cut down too many trees like bamboo or ginkgo, animals lose their homes. Forests that used to be home to many frogs and butterflies become quiet. 58 For this reason, it is our duty to protect their homes and understand the importance of every life.
So, what can we do? We can start small. We can protect the environment by planting trees or even growing flowers like roses in our gardens. 59 During the walk, we can imagine the complex (复杂的) connections between all the living things we see.
60 When we understand that we are also a part of this ecosystem, we can learn to get on well with nature. Let’s promise to be good friends to our planet and all its wonderful living things.
A.Protecting nature means protecting ourselves in the long run.
B.This loss shows us the harm of an unhealthy ecosystem.
C.Other small living things, like mushrooms, also play a part.
D.We can also take a walk in nature to learn more about it.
E.Actually, even the smallest insect can help the ecosystem.

When I reached the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, I felt the cold air. Even though it was summer, I felt like it was still winter there! The road to the top was so long and the weather was so foggy that it was hard to go on. I had to stop several times to take a small break. Finally, I reached the top with great excitement. Looking around, I could hardly believe my eyes. The mountain was covered in snow and shone like glass in the rising sun. And everything looked wonderful. Looking at the beautiful, natural sights, I felt smaller than an ant. What an amazing feeling! After climbing the snowy mountain, I visited Lijiang, an old city with a history of about 800 years.

A.Because there might be many insects there.
B.Because dead trees could fall down in strong winds.
C.Because the ground near dead trees is usually uneven.
D.Because it’s hard to find clean water near dead trees.
54.What should teenagers do if they get lost while camping?

F.In fact, over 75 percent of flowering plants need help with pollination.

49.According to the passage, we know that ________.

52.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Why camping is popular among teenagers.
B.How to choose a good campsite for camping.
C.The importance of learning camping safety rules for teenagers.
D.What equipment teenagers need to bring for camping.
53.Why should teenagers avoid setting up tents near dead trees?
A.Because there might be many insects there.
B.Because dead trees could fall down in strong winds.
C.Because the ground near dead trees is usually uneven.
D.Because it’s hard to find clean water near dead trees.
54.What should teenagers do if they get lost while camping?
A.Walk around to look for their friends.
B.Pick wild fruits to eat.
C.Stay in one place and use a whistle to signal for help.
D.Set up a new tent in a flat area.
55.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as part of the first-aid kit?
A.Bandages. B.Antiseptic. C.Painkillers. D.Waterproof tape.
B)阅读短文,从所给选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
F.In fact, over 75 percent of flowering plants need help with pollination.

The world is a book, and those who do not travel only read one page. Travelling the world can help us to better understand it. With this idea in mind, I began my journey to Yunnan.
When I walked on the stone path, it felt like walking through a long history step by step. Along the way, I noticed that the houses looked old and beautiful. I really love the city and its slow lifestyle.
