Want to know what your friends are really like? Take a look at their music playlist. More than 36,000 people, from all over the world, took part in an experiment (实验). It compared their personalities with how much they liked different musical styles. The results show that personalities do influence what we listen to. Here’s what certain musical styles say about who you are.
Rock
Like the sound of loud guitars and heavy drum beats? This type of music sounds very exciting, but fans of it are often quite gentle.
Country music
If cowboy hats and guitars get you singing along, it’s possible that you’re hard-working, preferring traditional styles and values.
Jazz
Fans of this strong music always come up with new ideas and are good at learning. If you like the saxophone of John Coltrane, then you’re probably self-confident and easy to get on with.
Classical music
If Beethoven and Mozart have you turning up the music, you’re probably quiet, but happy with who you are and comfortable with the world around you.
But the experiment didn’t tell the whole story: where we grow up, who we often go out with, and our personal experiences play into our taste, too. The songs you choose to be part of your life make you different from others. But no matter what style you like, music is for everyone. And enjoying different types of music lets you get a taste of cultures you might not have experienced before. So experiment with your playlist!
11.What influences our musical taste according to the experiment?
A.Personalities. B.Friends. C.Parents. D.Instruments.
12.According to the passage, if Daniel is creative, what may be found in his playlist?
A.Rock. B.Country music. C.Jazz. D.Classical music.
13.What may be the writer’s advice for us?
A.Changing our personalities. B.Trying different types of music.
C.Doing experiments with friends. D.Getting more learning experiences.
14.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.How different cultures influence you. B.What your playlist says about you.
C.What songs we can choose to enjoy. D.Why there are different musical styles.

It was Saturday. Usually Gary went to the park on Saturday mornings to play football with Matt, Joe and Karen. Today they went to the Crossbridge Football Club. Gary was missing them already. Lying on the bed, he studied the Crossbridge Football Club application form. There would be another chance to take the test to enter the club in six weeks. He could get in if he passed the test and paid the fees (费用).
He took the form downstairs. In the kitchen his father was making some tea and his mother was reading the newspaper.
“You look very serious this morning, Gary.” said his mum.
“I was thinking about how to get into the Football Club,” said Gary.
“But it’s too late now, isn’t it?” said his dad.
“I can take the test again in six weeks, but if I pass, I’ll have to pay. It says so on the application form.” said Gary.
“Let me have a look,” said Dad. Gary’s mum and dad looked at the list of fees and fell into silence for a while. Gray knew they were thinking about the cost.
“Sorry, son,” said Gary’s dad, “we can only afford to pay half of the cost. You could pay the other half by getting a part-time job, but what about the tests? Do you think you can pass it?”
Gary thought for a moment. “No problem,” he said, “I’ll pass the test and I’ll get a job. You’ll see.”
Crossbridge Football Club was in a large modern building on the edge of town. Matt, Joe and Karen sat in the dining hall at the end of their first day in the club. The dining hall was full of young people laughing and talking.

Chinese star skier Xu Mengtao won the gold medal on February 9 at the 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games. Over 1,200 athletes from 34 countries and regions competed in men’s, women’s, and mixed-team events, adding excitement and diversity (多样性) to the competitions.
But do you know where the birthplace of skiing is in China? On January 16th, 2025, the Altay Museum of the Origin (起源) of Human Skiing was opened to the public. The museum shows how skiing started and developed in Altay.
In 2005, some cave paintings were found in the area. They show ancient people hunting with skis on their feet and poles (杆) in their hands. Experts say the paintings could be more than 10,000 years old. For this reason, Altay is known as one of the birthplaces of skiing.
Altay is covered in snow for nearly 180 days a year. In ancient times, local people used a special kind of ski to get around in the snow. They added the horse skin (皮) to the bottom of it. This made it easier to go downhill and prevented them falling over when people went uphill.
As time went on, better ways of transport appeared. Skiing began to develop as a winter sport for the locals. Today Altay holds many skiing events every year. Skiers come from near and far to take part. People also go to several ski resorts (度假区) in this area like Jikepulin International Ski Resort.
The 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games highlighted (强调) speed, creativity, and teamwork. Its slogan (标语), “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia”, encouraged the youth around the world to love skiing and winter sports!

Are you surprised by the humanoid robots performing the Yangko dance at this year’s Spring Festival Gala? Wait for it! Another humanoid robot can even do a front flip (快速翻转). These days, humanoid robots seem to be able to do almost anything. 26
The secret lies in artificial intelligence (AI). 27 Companies are coming up with amazing technologies like large language models (LLMs).
Peter Chen from Covariant told The Economist that LLMs, which power ChatGPT, can be used to improve robotics. LIMs learn from tons of data and use that knowledge to help robots think. 28 This mix of LLMs and visual AI allows robots to know how things relate and interact, improving their ability to move and perform tasks. But being smart isn’t enough—robots also need to move well. 29 These days, new technology makes them better. Using light materials like carbon fiber (碳纤维) makes robots strong and flexible. While sensors let them see, hear and feel their environment, motors help them move easily.
Take Unitree Robotics’ HI humanoid robot as an example. It has a 3D LiDAR sensor, a depth camera and a powerful M107 joint (关节) motor.
30 The market for these robots can be worth 276.9 billion yuan by 2035.
A.Humanoid robots are on the rise.
B.But what makes them so smart?
C.China took the lead in this industry.
D.AI makes robots stronger, smarter, and faster.
E.In the past, even simple tasks like picking up an apple were hard for robots.
F.Since 2022, big progress in AI has pushed humanoid robots to the next level.
G.Visual (视觉的) AI helps robots understand what they see in photos and videos.

Firefighting (消防) is an important job to keep people safe and help stop fires from damaging (毁坏) too much property (财产).
There are many important parts to be a firefighter. First of all firefighters have to be strong enough to do their work, so they need to have physical training, such as carrying heavy objects, going up many stairs (楼梯), and working for a long time. Firefighters also have to know the latest skills in fighting fires, so they need to go through regular training to keep themselves and others safe. Anyway, the most important part of being a firefighter is to work as a team. They have to work together to stop fires!
Firefighting is very stressful. Firefighters never know when a fire or other emergency (紧急情况) is going to happen, so they have to be ready at all times. Even in the middle of the night, firefighters have to be able to wake up quickly when the alarm (警报) goes off.
Firefighters don’t just fight house fires. They also help people who are in accidents. For example they use their special tools to help get people out of the cars if they are stuck (卡住). In some places, firefighters also have to be prepared to help people who are sick or injured (受伤的). These firefighters might be trained as nursing staff.
Firefighters are always there to help us whenever there’s an emergency. Firefighting is not easy, but if you like helping people, it might be a good job for you!

57.Dear Tom,
Traditional festivals are an important part of the Chinese culture. I’m writing to tell you something about the Spring Festival.
Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China and it usually falls on the first month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Before the spring festival, people usually have a thorough cleaning and put up couplets on their doors. No matter how faraway people are, they’ll try to return to their home. On the New Year’s Eve, people have a big dinner and watch the Spring Festival Gala. On the first day of the New Year, people set off the fireworks to celebrate the beginning of a new year. People usually visit their relatives each other. I like the Spring Festival best, because I can get lucky money.
Can you tell me something about the festivals in your country?
Yours truly
Li Hua
