Imagine having everything you need — hospitals, shops, parks — just a few steps from your home. This is the 15-minute city. Here, people get all the services (服务) within 15 minutes from home. This social model is being developed in cities around the world, from Paris to Moscow. It could make people much healthier and build stronger relationships with neighbors.
Carlos Moreno is a strong supporter of the 15-minute city. He was inspired (激励) by the need to fight against climate change. In a 15-minute city, car travel is not the best choice. People should build more footpaths and bike roads. Walking or biking across the city is of great help in diminishing CO2 emissions (排放).
Anne Hidalgo, the mayor (市长) of Paris, plans to develop 15-minute communities all over France. That means the number of parking spaces will be reduced and more bike roads will be created on every street of the city.
This type of design is good for the planet. Joe Zehnder is the planner of the city Moscow. He is developing “15-minute neighborhoods”. “Having shops close to home makes people able to eat healthier food and live a better life.” Joe Zehnder says.
Syra Madad is also an important person behind the 15-minute city plan. He wants to make these places inclusive (包容广阔的). As a neighborhood becomes more convenient (便利的), housing costs may increase. Madad suggests trying creating more kinds of houses, so that people of different groups can have a chance to live there.

A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports professionals (专家). If sports aren’t going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you train every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore (酸痛) the next day? Wouldn’t it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons? In fact, there are a lot of reasons to play sports.
First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in a good condition. When you exercise, your body makes endorphins (安多芬) which give you more energy and make you feel happier.
Also, sports teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. They teach young people to respect their coaches, teammates and players from the other team. Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Another good way of sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, there are more and more couch potatoes. They spend too much time watching television or playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.
Maybe you’re not going to become a sports professional, but that’s okay, sports will still help you become a better and happier person.

What’s the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of wheat straw (小麦秸秆)? Most people see it as a farm waste, but intangible cultural heritage inheritor (非遗传承人) Wu Cui, turns it into beautiful artworks.
Straw weaving has a long history in China. Early straw-weaving products (编织物) were found in Zhejiang Province, and The Book of Rites records grass mats and skilled craftsmen (手艺人) during the Zhou Dynasty. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产) in 2008.
The straw weaving steps are complex (复杂的). First, choose materials, which may take weeks or months. Second, draw the design on paper. Third, weave the work. Finally, preserve it. The hardest part is making it lifelike.
In the past, straw products like hats and shoes were common because they were practical. But now, with industry development, many are made in factories. Fewer people need hand-woven straw products and it brings little money, so only about 100 people do it in the country.
Wu calls on more craftsmen to work together to save this craft. Many hands make light work.

阅读表达
64. What steps are mentioned for straw weaving? (List at least two.)

65. Why are only about 100 people doing straw weaving now?
