话题1 友谊
Passage 1
At Shenzhen Middle School, we have a special programme called “Global Friends”. Last month, I got a pen pal from Canada named Emma. We send emails to each other every week.
Emma is 13, just like me. She told me about her school life in Toronto (多伦多). Her classes start at 8:30 a.m., while ours begin at 7:50. She has snowy days in winter, but we have rainy days in Shenzhen!
We also share hobbies. Emma loves painting and sent me a drawing of maple leaves. I sent her a picture of Shenzhen Bay Park. We even made a project together: a poster comparing (比较) Canadian and Chinese festivals. Our teacher displayed it in the school hallway!
Sometimes we help each other with homework. Emma explained English idioms (俚语) to me, and I taught her simple Chinese phrases. Last Friday, we had our first video call. We laughed while trying to pronounce each other’s names correctly.

Hello, boys and girls! Do you like to make new friends at school? Yes? Here’s some of my advice.
First, don’t be shy! Try to talk to all of your classmates. Smile and say, “Hello! What’s your name?” if you didn’t hear the name clearly, try, “Sorry, can you repeat that for me, please?” Then give your name and say, “Nice to meet you!” it’s really as simple as that! It’s important to get people’s names right. If you get them wrong, they might feel sad!
Second, ask questions! Ask about school, sport, music, and more! As you listen, think of more questions to ask. So when your classmate stops talking, you can jump in and ask another question! But remember, you have to be a good listener before you can ask good questions.
Last, don’t forget to share! Tell your classmates something interesting about yourself. Then your new friends can get to know you too! Soon enough, you’ll be the best of friends!
I hope you find my advice helpful! Now go make some new friends!

The coach noticed that and asked him, “Why do you want to take rock climbing lessons?” “I come for fun, of course.” “Is that fun?” he asked. Bob shook his head slowly. Passage 3
Earth Day has come and gone, but our efforts (努力) to help the planet should continue every day. One thing you could try is cutting down on food waste.
The amount of food you waste may not seem like a lot, but when you add up all the food that families waste around the world, it’s a big problem. About 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted each year! About 33% of food made for humans is never consumed, so this is an area we need to improve.
According to Project Drawdown, “Making uneaten food wastes water, energy, land and money. It also makes greenhouse gases that are bad for the Earth. The food we waste is responsible for (造成) about 8% of CO2, sent into the air.”
Wasting no food is easier said than done, but British cookbook writer Jack Monroe has some ideas for using the food we buy. For example, salad is often wasted because it goes bad quickly. In fact, it can be used to make pesto—a yummy Italian sauce (酱). You can put pesto on bread, eggs, or other things you like. Even banana peels (果皮) can be used to make banana bread.
Monroe’s website is home to no-waste and cheap cooking ideas. If you want to save money and not waste food, do check it out. Last night, I was going to throw away some bread when I thought of Monroe. So I used a machine to turn it into crumbs (面包屑) and put them in the fridge.
Now I have crumbs ready to use. Hopefully, you’ll find Monroe’s ideas as helpful as I did.
1.What can we learn about food waste?
A.It is difficult to solve. B.It is a new problem.
C.It is harmful to our planet. D.It is bad for people’s health.
2.What does the underlined word “consumed” mean?
A.Eaten. B.Loved. C.Sold. D.Wasted.
3.How should we deal with uneaten food according to Jack Monroe?
A.By throwing it away. B.By putting it in the fridge.
C.By turning it into new food. D.By making an Italian sauce with it.
4.Why does the writer mention her own experience in Paragraph 5?
A.To tell readers how to make crumbs. B.To encourage readers to take action.
C.To ask readers to save money. D.To show bread is the most wasted food.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.From waste to taste. B.Eat less, waste less.
C.The terrible food waste. D.Activities on Earth Day.
话题5 景点介绍与旅行见闻
Passage 1
Where do you usually spend your vacations, at well-known places or less-known ones? Now, a growing number of young holidaymakers prefer to spend their leisure time at less-known tourist spots in China to look for a unique, relaxed holiday experience. People call it “reverse tourism”.
“Man can only move one meter every ten minutes on Huangshan Mountain” became a hot topic on social media during this year’s National Day Holiday in October, a time when well-known tourist attractions like Huangshan are always overcrowded. Too many tourists usually make it hard for visitors to have a good time.
Spending vacations at less-known places is also a good way to save money. The prices of plane tickets, meals, hotel stays and so on are usually high at well-known places. But at less-known ones, they are not. Famous tourist spots even often raise their prices during holidays.
Another key is that less-known places can bring a feeling of freshness. They are not as “commercial” (商业化) as developed ones and are able to provide new and natural experiences. Besides, unlike well-known spots, some unexplored places with little online exposure can give more surprises.
Many people think reverse tourism is not a bad thing. It means that visitors have more places to visit, which brings chances for people at less-known places to get more money. More importantly, reverse tourism inspires those well-known spots to improve themselves for better service.
1.What does “reverse tourism” mean according to the passage?
A.A trip to experience something unique and relaxed.
B.A trip to less-known places instead of famous ones.
C.A trip to spend one’s leisure time at one’s hometown.
D.A trip for young holidaymakers to relax themselves.
2.Which are the reasons for NOT visiting well-known places?
① There are usually too many people there.
② Tourists have poor choices of hotels and foods.
③ Tourists may spend more money on meals and hotel stays.
④ Tourists know these places so well that they don’t feel surprised.
A.①②④ B.①②③ C.②③④ D.①③④
3.What does the underlined word “they” refer to?
A.Well-known places. B.Plane tickets, meals and hotel stays.
C.Less-known places. D.The prices of everything during a trip.
4.What is the purpose (目的) of the passage?
A.To tell us something about reverse tourism.
B.To ask us to visit less-known tourist spots.
C.To help the locals make money through tourism.
D.To give a travel guide to less-known places.

Passage 4
Have you heard of a place named Shangri-La? It is said that it is a wonderful place. People there seem very happy. But does it really exist? Well, it is in China.
Shangri-La first showed up in a novel called Lost Horizon in 1933. The book was written by a British man named James Hilton. It tells the story of a man who goes to Shangri-La after a plane crash in Xinjiang’s Kunlun Mountains.
However, Shangri-La is not in Xinjiang. People believe it is in Yunnan and Sichuan. We are not 100% sure, but many think Hilton wrote about it based on what Joseph Rock wrote. Rock was a botanist. He spent a lot of time in the forests and mountains of Yunnan and Sichuan in the 1920s and 1930s and was always researching and writing about different kinds of plants. What he saw in China is like what Hilton described about Shangri-La.
I first knew Shangri-La from a video game, Far Cry 4. In this game, you sometimes go to Shangri-La to fight against bad guys. The place in the game is really beautiful. There are special animals and brave people. I think the game makers got ideas from Lost Horizon and Rock’s writings.

Light from the Sun takes about eight minutes to reach us.
The Earth is a planet (行星). It is the only planet in the Solar System where there is life. The Earth goes around the Sun. This trip takes one year. The Earth also spins around itself. When a part of the Earth faces the Sun, it is daytime there. When it turns away from the Sun, it becomes night. The Earth has one Moon. The Moon goes around the Earth, and it affects (影响) the tides (潮水) in our oceans.
The Solar System is made up of the Sun and the planets that go around it. There are eight planets in the Solar System. The Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It is not too hot or too cold, and it has air and water. These things make it possible (使……成为可能) for plants, animals, and people to live here.
Our Earth has different kinds of places, like mountains, rivers, deserts (沙漠), and forests. About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, but most of it is salty ocean water. Dong tan National Nature Reserve (东滩国家自然保护区) is a wetland on Chong Ming island. It was taken in UNESCO’s World Heritage List on July 26, along with four other wetlands in China. As we celebrate this good news, let’s learn more about wetlands.
Some areas on Earth’s land are covered by water or have water just below the soil (土壤). This may be all year round or for just part of the year. These places are called wetlands.
Wetlands are home to lots of different animals, such as frogs, snakes and others. Migratory birds, like wild geese and ducks, rest in wetlands during their long trips.
Wetlands cover only 6 percent of the Earth’s surface (表面), but they are important in nature. They can clean the dirty water from cities and farms. Wetlands trap pollutants (截留污染物) in the water and keep them in the soil. During heavy rains, wetlands take in a lot of rainwater. What’s more, wetlands help slow climate change. They take in greenhouse gases and hold them in the soil and plants. Wetlands also pull down (降解) leaves, animal waste (动物粪便) and other high-carbon matter from the surface of the water.

A.Eaten. B.Loved. C.Sold.

Passage 1
The Sun, the Earth, and the Solar System (太阳系) are closely related. The Sun is a star. It is extremely big and hot in the sky, like a huge ball of fire. It gives us light and heat (热量). Without the Sun, there would be no life on Earth. The Sun is so large that about one million Earths could fit inside it! It’s very far from the Earth.
Only a small part is fresh water that we can drink. The Earth also has different climates (气候), from very cold places at the North and South Poles to hot places near the Equator (赤道).
1.The underlined (下划线) word “spins” in the second paragraph probably means “________”.
A.jump B.fly C.turn D.fall
2.According to (根据) the passage, what makes life possible on Earth?
A.The Earth’s fast spin and the moon. B.Air, water and suitable (合适的) temperature.
C.The Earth’s position (位置) in the solar system. D.The light from other stars in the sky.
3.What can we infer (推断) from the fact (事实) that only a small part of Earth’s water is fresh?
A.People should save fresh water. B.All plants can grow with ocean water.
C.There is no need to protect water. D.Fresh water will never run out.
4.What is the main (主要的) idea of this passage?
A.To explain (解释) how the Sun affects the Earth’s climate.
B.To introduce (介绍) the Sun, the Earth, and their roles in the solar system.
C.To tell readers about the importance of the Moon.
D.To show the differences between ocean and fresh water.

【导语】本文介绍了太阳、地球及其在太阳系中的关系,以及地球上的生命条件和资源分布。
1.词句猜测题。根据“The Earth also spins around itself. When a part of the Earth faces the Sun, it is daytime there. When it turns away from the Sun, it becomes night.”可知,地球自转时,一部分面对太阳是白天,转离太阳是黑夜,由此可推测“spins”意为“转动”,与“turn”意思相近。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据“It is not too hot or too cold, and it has air and water. These things make it possible (使……成为可能) for plants, animals, and people to live here.”可知,适宜的温度、空气和水使地球上的生命成为可能。故选B。
3.推理判断题。根据“About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, but most of it is salty ocean water. Only a small part is fresh water that we can drink.”
Passage 2
